AutoPatcher 5.6 Step-by-step guide
Since many people are wondering how is the new AutoPatcher 5.6, we want them to take a look inside, so that you may get used to it.
There's a huge list of new thing in AutoPatcher 5.6, such as:
- New detections: Windows Media Player, Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger, DirectX, .Net and Windows Installer
- Microsoft Office components detection: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Project, Publisher, OneNote, FrontPage, InfoPath, Visio, SharePoint Designer and Groove. This means that we are already creating AutoPatcher for Office (XP/2000/2003 and 2007).
- We now can detect hotfixes that were slipstreamed.
And many, many more (you can see some new features in the screenshots.
The visual structure isn't really different from the v5.1, but has some new things, such as you may see next.
Let's start AutoPatcher!
First you have to accept AutoPatcher's EULA.
... and AutoPatcher's Microsoft EULA...
Now AutoPatcher is loading all the modules that were made for your Windows version...
... and here it is AutoPatcher's main window, were you select the modules you want to install/uninstall. Now only the Critical hotfixes are selected by default.
If you press the "About" button, you'll see AutoPatcher's About window...
... and if you press the "Release Info" button you'll see the new AutoPatcher Release Info. Here you'll have a list with all the versions that you have loaded. Right now, here it's only the main release
When you have several Official releases, the Release Info window will look like this. You'll have the name of the releases in the Window title, you'll have links to the pages that the creators of the releases have inserted (official forum, thread, etc), and a description.
If you press Ctrl+S in the main window, you'll be shown this window (AutoPatcher's Save Answer File). You can save the modules you've selected, so that you can use it in other computers without the need to choose them by hand again. Remember to save it in \AutoPatcher folder, you'll see why in a few steps. ;)
You may press Ctrl+L at any time in the main window to load any answer file that you've made before.
After selecting which modules you want to install, AutoPatcher will look like this when installing the modules
AutoPatcher Finished the modules installation. Time to press "Exit" (it will close AutoPatcher and you may continue working in Windows, but remember, many times you need to reboot in order to apply the hotfixes), or "Finish" and your computer will reboot in 30 seconds.
This is the countdown after you pressed "Finish". If you haven't, save all your work before time reaches 0!
Remember what I told you before? If you saved the .aaf file in \AutoPatcher, AutoPatcher will prompt you to choose which answer file you want to load. It doesn't matter how many you have (1, 2, 3, etc). Even if you load it and want to reset the selections, you may press Ctrl+N to deselect all the modules. You may even press Ctrl+L to select another aaf file. See? Easy and practical!
In this window, the hotfixes/modules that you had installed before are shown in blue (as before).
In v5.6, the modules aren't labeled as official/non-official, but the release itself. That means if you change (add/remove/edit) anything, it will make the release automatically Unofficial. You may still install the hotfixes you want, but we won't guarantee it will work as it should, so make sure you know what you're doing.
Oh, wait, what's this? Do we have a new much desired feature? Check the thumbnail! :D
We hope you liked the new look and feel and also the new features of AutoPatcher 5.6. It was a long wait, but sure was worth it!
AutoPatcher x64 and Vista (and also the Portuguese releases) are already build in this v5.6. Your much wanted AutoPatcher XP, 2000 and 2003 in English is made in v5.6 and will be released in the next days.

May 11th, 2007 at 7:13 am
Owesome work guys. Well worth the wait! Cheers.
May 11th, 2007 at 7:23 am
Hi guys… I like the new look. Thanks for all the hard work !!!

GOOD WORK !!!!!!!
May 11th, 2007 at 8:03 am
Just WOW!
Waiting for XP x86 then. Plus the EULA is neat ya. ^^
May 11th, 2007 at 8:07 am
cant see much difference to the old version, maybe looks a little sharper, the buttons, the look of it still looks like the old to me, still waiting on the XP version, so i’ll be sure to check back in a FEW days.
May 11th, 2007 at 8:29 am
What about mixing operating systems? in old version of autopatcher you could install a full release over an autopatcher installation and it would be avalible to two operating systems. is this still the case????
Eg: install Xp full release over 2003 release so same installation avalible to both 2003 & XP by launching the same exe.
May 11th, 2007 at 9:09 am
@Andrew, there might be too much difference in appearance, but a HUGE difference in the underlying functionality
@Adaman02, yes you can still do that. HOWEVER theres currently a problem with the vista and x64 releases which make them incompatible with each other and with my upcoming releases. i will work on fixing this as soon as i’ve finished my own releases.
May 11th, 2007 at 9:46 am
Congrats on completing the release. We’ve all been very anxious about it. Being a PC Technician, I rely HEAVILY on AutoPatcherXP and 2000 and I gotta say, without it, I’d be in a bad position considering our internet connection is flakier than a Head & Shoulders commercial. Antonis and the rest of the AP Team, you guys are awesome. Can’t wait to start using 5.6!!!
May 11th, 2007 at 10:03 am
I service computers for several companies and use AutoPatcher heavily! Can’t wait to try out the new one and see what I think. I really appreciate the maximize button screenshot above!!! :-P
May 11th, 2007 at 10:52 am
Outstanding!! I think the new look is great, it is simple yet very efficient and all the new functionality is even better. I can’t wait to use it. I rely on this program about every day so I am really excited to take it for a spin. Great work guys, I really appreciate your efforts.
May 11th, 2007 at 11:04 am
Hi guys
fantastic work. shame about the people who maoned about the wait. but i think its was well worth the wait.
GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT
i look forward to you releasing autopatcher xp x86
keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 11th, 2007 at 11:15 am
1. I’d like to see a default install button (no user input) that just loads Everything that’s missing.
2. I’d also like a tick box that says “don’t show this message again” Once is enough!
3. What about changeing Ctrl+N so forth, to buttons or ticks too (so I don’t have to remember them ctrl what again?
4. Change Finish to Restart
These things should be easy enough!
Kim

May 11th, 2007 at 4:55 pm
Kim,
1. that’s /unattend
2. no. you gotta read the eula and agree
3. L is for Load, N is for None, D is for Deselect, A is for All, S is for Save… easy?
4. finish just starts a restart countdown IF needed. you can always avoid doing it.
May 11th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
OK; thank-you, cause when it comes out, a lot of people don’t mesage for a month !!
So
THANK-YOU to all

Autopatcher is a lifesaver and i consider the DVD i’ve bought an investment
Keep up the fantastic work and i guarantee if you were to charge for it most people here would pay. i know i for one definitely would
May 12th, 2007 at 4:30 am
You guys completely rock, thanks so much for the hard work you do! Can’t wait for the new release for Vista/XP 32 bit!

In the next days, Blaze will release AutoPatcher 2000, 2003 and XP, so please just wait a little bit longer. :)
where where where
May 13th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
Congratulations,
Excellent Work.
Have to reinstall Windows and need updates all in one.
Great Package and Office will be a nice bonus.
Have a friend on Vista, who doesn’t know about downloading and other stuff so this will help the friend out.
You all rock.
Need to relax a little and take a break after all this hard programming and testing stage.
Major was Engineering Computer Programming, so I am somewhat familiar with programming deadlines and creations of new programs and what can happen. Little out of date but great work on your part.
May 13th, 2007 at 11:42 pm
i had a nightmare last night: Microsoft buys Autopatcher………
May 14th, 2007 at 3:11 am
Am drooling on a daily basis and wishing you had a notify mailing list so that I wouldn’t set my hopes up too high every time I wait for the page to load. Hey, maybe you should have a notify list so people would stop complaining.
May 14th, 2007 at 8:15 am
They do, but it sends out notifications every month on the first, regardless of the current state of AutoPatcher. It’s actually quite useless (wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more)
May 14th, 2007 at 10:48 am
You can use the RSS feed to look out for news :)
May 14th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
Just a big THANK you for your efforts… So far I used Autopatcher once on a recent full WinXP reinstall. It saved me lots of hours, and it’s a good feeling to know such a thing is available. I’m promoting it to all my colleagues ;-)
May 14th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
Its a Big Big thanks for u guys…
all off u Such an Angel For me….
Autopatcher has change my life…
once more… thank for all of you
May 14th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Hi,
Is there a way to create an default auto-answer file? So we can burn a CD and always have the same answers selected without having to load the aaf file?
Thanks, and gratz for the excellent work!! You have saved-me tons of time!
:)
May 14th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
…and yes… I did it again…
I realized I skipped the aaf-auto-listing part….
I should have more attention !!
Thanks again for surprising me :)
May 15th, 2007 at 6:41 am
I look at this:

And this:

(Note: they seem to be the same)
Every day!!!
I think it’s moving, or is time is standing still.
Could someone measure with a ruler and let me know
May 15th, 2007 at 8:09 am
@Kim
Don’t rely on those images, they move completly independent of AutoPatcher’s current status. Dunno y they’re there, actually
May 15th, 2007 at 5:01 pm
For God’s sake panos!
Lets make this perfectly clear, even the most patient and well mannered visitor out there is waiting.
No need for abuse. AP May is NOT DONE YET, so isn’t SP3 (please complain to MS!)
The AP team have the right to edit/delete any message here, but they leave them up for open discussion.
The answer to why Vista is done is because its way smaller, and less work, and it’s been done.
I retract my previous sarcasm (and mainly joke not abuse) and ask the AP team to setup a spam comments box, where anyone who cannot control themselves, post!
Please do not abuse the AP team, would you work harder if the customer abused you? Personnally I’d say tools down, until the abuse has stopped.
For what it is worth:
When I have the 5.6 CD in my hands, (when it’s completed) I am going to be extremely grateful to the AP team, and immensely grateful for its cost (zero!!). As that it is presently being worked on, I’d like to say THANK-YOU AP TEAM. I’m highly technical with programmer skills, and there is no way I could do it, in a standalone complete package. The only change I will make is to put my SP2 on the disc, and that’s it.
Thanks AP team. You guys are the best in the world.
Kim
May 15th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
I prefer a Autopatcher that is stable. And i’m prepared to wait until June. If you want a Windows with all the updates use ryanvm update pack. Don’t be angry for a program that is free. Good job…..I will be waiting….
May 16th, 2007 at 7:05 am
First of all “KIM” i didn’t want to abuse any of the AP team members.I just said i wanted to make a clean install of windows and use the new AP.You should understand that i wasn’t complaining to the AP team for that as i didn’t pay them for support or anything!I appreciate the work they do and this software is so needed that i can’t wait for the next version! It’s like a tv show you ‘re stuck to it and can’t wait for the next episode.”
Just me” I wasn’t angry on anybody, actually the exact opposite!Autopatcher has helped me all this time more than any other software i use for my system stability! Also i know why vista & x64 releases are out earlier but i simply want the xp release.
May 16th, 2007 at 7:23 am
Thanks panos for clearing it up.
I suppose my concern was not directed at you but at the immediate comments that would follow, or snowball, from you comments.
Generally abuse (of any kind) creates abuse. And it wouldn’t be nice for the AP team to say Here it is, at last, you bastards!
As for Dan, that was related to aw4t comment (which ironically followed on from yours).
If you’re out there aw4t, we’re still waiting for an apology !!!
Kim
May 16th, 2007 at 8:38 am
You ‘re right Kim.I didn’t notice Dan’s comment was heading to aw4t!I ‘m happy we cleared it up though because i could never think of autopatcher as garbage.I would of course say it’s the most efficient solution to keep your pc safe, stable and up - to - date! Thanks to the autopatcher team once again and sorry for all this mesh i might have caused.
May 16th, 2007 at 11:21 am
Blaze is suppose to jump out and say “That is enough, guys”.
Where are you? Celebrating your birthday AND getting accepted by a colledge AND passing your driving test? Congrat.
May 17th, 2007 at 12:35 am
Brilliant work on the new look. I’ve been using Autopatcher for some time now. Patiently waiting for the XP release. This really beats downloading all the patches and updates off the microsoft site. Especially when I have to reinstall my copy of windows after a disk format or when I buy a new PC.
Do you have releases for old windows OS’s like Win98 and WinMe? I use them on a P1 and a P2 machine I still have and incredibly still work fine. (currently donated to my parents who only check email and play a few games like solitaire and scrabble on the PC)

May 17th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Agreed.
I think it’s about time to make this open source so folks can establish more regular update schedules or make their own modules.
It probably should have been open source to begin with, given its nature.
May 17th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
Ah, aw4t, back to complain about something you have done nothing to help with nor paid for and therefore have no right to complain about? I see you ignored my previous advice.
Look, I could go into a long argument with you about this, but I’m gonna cut to the chase: If Antonis felt like saying “I’m done, no more AutoPatcher”, none of us would have any right to complain. This is HIS hobby (which means he can work at whatever damn pace he so chooses), and he has been gracious enough to let his use the “fruit” of his hobby FREE OF CHARGE. Because it is free, no one here has any right to complain about when (or if, for that matter) the program comes out (Note that those who paid for CDs of AutoPatcher way back in March have been contacted by SteelTrepid and have been given the option of a refund).
Regarding people who paid for or donated to AutoPatcher: I explained previously how anyone who paid for AP was given the choice of a refund. The nature of donations is…you DONATE something to someone without expecting something in return. So, really, there’s no shaft to give anyone.
Two months late is horrible for a project people PAID to get done at a certain time, yes. Two months late for a project that is basically a group of 5 or 6 (don’t know exact number) college-age guys coding in their spare time an immensely complicated and useful product is just damn fine.
@Cocoon. I don’t know how long you have been on the AP site, but normally, updates are provided religiously for the public. These months have been unique because AP is switching to AP 5.6. I assure you, unless Antonis suddenly decides to call it quits, once AP is all updated 5.6, updates will come out monthly like they always have.
@aw4t. I know you didn’t take my advice before, but please, reconsider. For the good of mankind. Idiot.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
@Dan, agree with what you have said, but asking someone to jump off a cliff is way too heavy for me ;-)
@aw4t, beauty of Internet, you have the choice of not visiting the site, not downloading A/P and not installing A/P. There are alternative out there, beside downloading from M/S sites directly.
@Cocoon, if you were to start an “open Source” project of similar nature, put up a healthy competition with A/P, a lot of us will support you. Post your project link here.
@ A/P Team, you have done such a good job that you have built up everyone’s expectation in receiving it ON TIME. Look at it this way, if your product is not good at all, there will be no noise and no complain; it is time you gave yourself a pad on the back.
May 18th, 2007 at 2:08 am
grt work man…..
weldone & keep it up….
thanx u all
May 18th, 2007 at 4:35 am
Use A/P and love since first time i used
May 18th, 2007 at 6:27 am
As said before, you don’t like it, you don’t use it. Period.
We are doing this in our free time, and you guy forget that a company that gets paid by the software you use delayed a OS by some years. Yes, the complexity is way different, but they have huge teams, and it’s their main job.
We didn’t release it before not because we aren’t working on it but because the change from v5.1 to 5.6 forces a complete redesign of every module. And did you count the number of modules that each release have? Creating the new modules isn’t like installing them. It’s not “click” the check box and it’s done. We have to make sure everything is well done.
So why can’t we delay a release by a few months? Because you are too lazy to do one by yourself and want the real hard work done by others, and just want to download and click “Next, Next, Install” and reboot?
Give me a brake.
May 18th, 2007 at 6:29 am
@ aw4t & Cocoon (especially aw4t), If it was up to me I would permanently banned you from here and prohibit even to download any A/P.
You offensively do not know what programming is and all the work involved in it, I really feel sorry for the whole A/P Team and hope they do not pay any attention to aw4t words (the 7365 6C66 6973 6820 6465 6D6F 6E)
Am also awaiting the new A/P and I have a whole company to reinstall & update, also some laptops of children that I have promised and those children are more patient then you know who.
The problem (the real problem) is MS, I know I have worked with these guys and they can make you nuts. A/P Team just wants to do the right thing and make a great new release and I believe it will be a record download!!!
Long live the A/P Team.
May 18th, 2007 at 6:56 am
I’m just guessing, but I think the people who complain the most here will be the very first to download the new releases once they’re done.
Dan, most of the team is around 20s. I think I’m the youngest, still 20. Lyndon is 21, Renato is 25.
Lyndon decided to take advantage of all the new features in 5.6, which meant a lot of research around Microsoft’s patches. He analyzes each and every patch to see how it installs, what files it updates under each affected operating system, and creates a flawless module for it.
He even found a problem with one of the patches. No doubt, that’s something a Microsoft employee should do. I ask, how is it possible that they didn’t, yet Lyndon did?
So please, have a little respect for the work being done. It’s taking long, I know, but there is so much going on that most of you are not aware of. The new releases will be out pretty soon, and they will be worth the wait.
May 18th, 2007 at 7:38 am
I agree.
But one thing here. To use AP would mean that all here want (or need) to help others. I mean, no one wants AP just for their own PC. (just use an image)
I think you better change your name aw4t before anyone asks: Was that you? Oh, Um, I’ll take Dan instead. You go now.
May 18th, 2007 at 8:35 am
Fantastic work, Blaze and everyone else involved.
Can’t wait for the 32 bit XP to come out.
Keep up the terrific work people
May 18th, 2007 at 9:10 am
a big round of applause for the AP team…
The office support is gonna be great…can’t wait
The answer file changes should prove to be a huge benefit - i have users that use AP but seem to always ask for help when selecting the modules…not anymore!!!
@Kim you deserve a cookie for all your recent diplomatic work
May 18th, 2007 at 9:18 am
@Cocoon, courtesy of “Waiter”….
” others who have more bandwidth might want to try
http://smithii.com/slipstream_xpsp2?page=2
its similar to autopatcher, except less flexible”
Tried that and I am staying with A/P. Choice is yours.
No need to /rant about the delay, the more one does that, the more one indicates that he is indeed relying on A/P alot.
May 18th, 2007 at 11:20 am
These exchanges have degenerated to the lowest possible way and turned abussive.
I would stay with only checking the download page utill the place is tidied up.
May 18th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
Hey man what tooks so long??????!!!!!!!!!!!! Hurry up, may is ending near! SO?!?!??! What are you doing man???
May 18th, 2007 at 2:05 pm
@Antonis Kaladis and the other members of AP team
Don’t worry about the people complaining. They really care about what you people are doing. If they didn’t care, they would have turned to another option by now (instead of complaining). The fact they are complaining show how much they care. Granted, some are not polite enough and even seem a little ungrateful. But those are minority. There are many more silent but if they decided to speak they couldn’t thank you enough for the work you are doing.
Keep the good work. (and sorry for my poor english)
May 18th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
@Yanko. Well, your English is far better than Ronin’s (and much less annoying to try and interpret, as you aren’t complaining).
May 18th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
Let me start out by saying that I am a big fan of Autopatcher and the time it has saved me for both work and regular usage.
However, I must say that a 3 month delay is a rather long delay. Is there ANY reason why, after the first month when it was realized it was going to take so long, parallel releases with 5.1 were not released while 5.6 was being worked on?
Again, I love what you guys do but I am disappointed with how this release was handled. If there is a chance that 5.6 is going to take longer, may we please have the May release (or even an April release) in the proven 5.1?
Just my humble opinion and request.
Thanks guys for all your hard work.
May 18th, 2007 at 5:18 pm
I see message moderation is on now- and thus prevents the free exchange in the ‘comments’ area.
May 18th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
what kind of project management is used on unpaid hobbies?
I worked on the US space program and we used project management there. Rather costly software.
Of course someone could donate a copy of M$ project - enterprise version.
But judging M$ delivery schedule for bug ridden high priced commercial software (years late - not months) project management is no substitute for brains or really good work.
One thing we learned in the space program is - if it ain’t broken - don’t fix it.
For those who can’t wait for any delay - why not submit your code (oops - application and installer) since you seem to know how to get it done faster.
Maybe after two nights time you could post a fully debugged regression tested product for free that we all could use and not have to wait on someone else to do it for U!
my 2 sense
;)
May 18th, 2007 at 6:37 pm
I am inspired.
Why not go out and buy Vista from M$ - the ultimate version is just great (see M$ website for details) - as you can get AP for Vista now and U won’t have to wait for the youngsters to finish the project they are doing for you.
As a bonus you will have the best that M$ can offer you - years in the making, and years late.
Project managed of course - so you can feel good about that.
If your PC can’t run Vista DELL will sell you one with Vista preinstalled.
I am available for professional consulting at my usual rate if you need paid assistance.
I have a very nice resume.
With regards,
B
May 18th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Can’t wait to see the new XP version which is going to include Office 2007 updates and add-ins. I really hate having to wait on Microsoft’s server and have always used and recommended Autopatcher to my friends. Keep up the good work and thanks for all of your hard work.
May 18th, 2007 at 6:58 pm
Additional wisdom from years of computer systems engineering.
Saying thank you - doesn’t cost you much.
But may be the most valuable thing you can do when managing any project - even the very big ones like I have worked on.
Unfortunately, and to their detriment, hardly anyone knows how to speak those two words.
You would be amazed at the fruitful progress that can be made when people genuinely feel appreciated for their hard work and contributions.
Thank you is worth more than bags of gold.
I really know this to be true!
It can make you successful to.
Just say - thank you.
With loving regards,
Bohdan
May 19th, 2007 at 12:34 am
If I was the developer of this fine FREE program, and so many people were complaining about the wait, I would seriously consider dropping it altogether. Then nobody would get anything, and I’ll be out on my front lawn, laying on my hammock and sipping herbal tea. Bunch of ingrates.
Thank you for all the hard work, Autopatcher Team. Take all the time you need. I’ll wait a year if I have to.
May 19th, 2007 at 7:18 am
Autopatcher Team: The awesomeness of your awesomeness is incomprehensible. Take the time you need and continue awesoming.
May 19th, 2007 at 10:03 am
Yeah I agree.
I think you should drop the project.
No, seriously. Please stop.
May 19th, 2007 at 2:50 pm

May 19th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
Agreed with Mortar — time to give up and move on to something else. I say don’t release the latest version.
May 19th, 2007 at 11:46 pm
I’ve been waiting patiently for AP since March. Been putting off a clean re-install for some time now.
Guys, the truth is that everybody appreciates the effort you put into developing and sustaining a project of such complexity, all for free. If people didn’t care, they wouldn’t be complaining about the delays. It’s understandable that there would be set backs along the way but I’ve noticed that in the last 2 months, the progress report at “Almost Ready” twice! How much time does it require for a monthly update to be released once it’s in the almost ready phase?
I humbly suggest that you keep the general public more informed on when exactly (date) we can expect to see the final version be released. It would keep the comments section from getting flared up into a tirade of personal attacks. Again, thank you for all the great work, really :)
May 20th, 2007 at 12:35 am
This is getting way out of hand here, is this a complaint post form?
To all you negative people out there, STOP posting all this rubbish on here!
If you can’t wait then just start making now a new installation with all the latest drivers (+other) and make a image of this, then use the old (but still very good) A/P and after go to the MS update site for all the remaining updates.
This will make your computer already a lot faster and would be mostly up-to-date and if you want to give it a new look then download xPize from http://www.xpize.net/downloads/XPize46Full.exe.
Then when the new A/P is released, you can load your image and install the new A/P.
In the mean time go play a game or something but not put negativity on here, there should not be a SPAM filter on here but a NEGATIVE filter.
Dear AutoPatcher team, please do not let your head down and take a holiday if that is needed to wash all this negative energy away, I think 99,99~% of all the people out there are only appreciating what the A/P Team is doing and there are always jokers & critics out that say these things. But do not listen to them or even react to them, we the people who love you will deal with that junk.
Just a final word to all the negatives out there, you are writing to people and they have feelings. Do you want to live with yourself if somebody snaps for your words? Think before you write something and care for one and another. (D$#%!@ some people do like there is going to be a miracle released, get a grip man)
Long live the A/P Team.
May 20th, 2007 at 10:31 am
Get a grip people !
First off they are doing this in their -free time- and -for free- ! This ain’t a full time job.
Keep in mind that there are projects out there (which are freeware too) with devs that give 500% less info about their releases. A prime exemple is an mIRC (best available) called nnscript (www.nnscript.de (devs sold the project to a big company)). It took A YEAR to release a new version… the whole community behind the script kept asking if the script was dead… they were told it was almost done for OVER A YEAR. The devs would post news on the frontpage once every 2months !!!!
On the other side, the guys of AP post REGULARY about updates and whats being done everyday !!
Now think about whining next time… because they are doing more than an great job already.
May 20th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
I say this with no irony, but if it takes longer than another week I’d suggest to wait until June’s patch Tuesday, because it’s really gonna suck getting AP and using WU a couple of days after.
May 20th, 2007 at 1:55 pm
Actually, I don’t appreciate it at all.
May 20th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
Muito bom.
May 20th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
Hey AP Team,
I think this setup is awesome. I am a computer technician and this will save a ton of time from downloading all the updates. I am learning beginner programming and I know how much time it takes to get all the bugs out of just a little program. I know you guys are exercising a great deal of patience both with the code and us while we wait.
Thanks for your efforts and consideration to the rest of us. I hope I can do something on this caliber someday.
Thanks again,
Brennan
May 21st, 2007 at 2:04 am
I too am excited and impatient about this new release, but that does not mean I am rude! I can’t wait till it’s out, but I will wait, and be thankful when it’s out!
To all the morons who have been low-class towards the people who DONATE their time to ENABLE Autopatcher to exist, STFU.
Fact is most (if not all) of you ‘complaining’ idiots are running non-legit XP, and THAT IS WHY you are mad you can’t update your ST0LEN operating system. YOUR issues with using a p!rate copy of XP are YOUR PROBLEM. Those who have licensed copies of XP can get updates from M$ automatically, while autopatcher is revamped, so no big deal…
You complaining cheap leaches, I bet 99.9% of you have contributed NOTHING toward this project (praise and or thanks to the autopatcher team would count by the way…). Hit the freaking Donate button, it actually works…
When the 5.6 XP version is done, I will be ordering another DVD, no question.
Matter of fact, I would not mind getting an ‘autopatcher’ email letting me know when a new full version is available, so I could always choose to have an up to date DVD full release of autopatcher with me. It’s a great tool.
Another idea might be to have a annual amount that would automatically send a person full releases (when available). It seems like there is about 2-4 full releases (XP for example) per year, so maybe instead of $8 for one DVD, have an option for say $25-$35 that would enrole some one for auto delivery for one year (or maybe a DVD once a quarter)? Just an idea to think about, I would ‘opt’ for that option, if it was a choice on the order form!
Thanks again Autopatcher team!
May 21st, 2007 at 4:45 am
“ehowland” it’s good that you are excited!I believe you are very wrong about the non-legit XP issue.I do run this kind of XP but that’s not the fact i can’t wait for autopatcher to come out.
I SIMPLY CAN download through M$ and there are many ways to do it.I can use the genuine patch,an alternative update website or with an updates downloader. If you knew some stuff about all these you wouldn’t post anything.
I CAN’T wait AP to come out beacuse i trust the AP team far more than M$.I appreciate their work and i know that using their patch software my computer will faster, more stable & more reliable.Simple as that.
Please stop accusing people that don’t have the original discs. The reason that M$ has become so BIG is through copies that me and many others use.Think about it!
AP Team keep up the good work. Thanks

wooo weee maximize :D
May 21st, 2007 at 10:35 am
Hey good luck with the prog and did you notice how many people rely on autopatcher? Makes me wonder why MS dont do the same! (They could call it SP3)!
Notice that recently Office 2003 and above (at least) needs OGA to function to get updates from MS, Will Autopatcher include Office updates or will it get “ceased and desisted” because you wont need to run OGA to get updates from Autopatcher???

OK panos,
I will admit I too have some machines running that are not licensed. I am constantly building and tearing apart PCs and several of the early ones I did several years ago are still running. I do know about the alternate methods of getting updates, and making sure a XP machine passes the wga check, legit or not.
My main annoyance was at the people who are so rude, and I bet I described plenty of then quite well. My most important XP machine is a XP MCE I built way back with a MSDN disc. I have since bought several MCE OEM disks from newegg, but don’t dare touch my MCE server as I have 1000 gigs of recorded TV! (about 500 shows). I can’t even imagine trying to back that all up to rebuild the system, and having used some raid arrays in the PC, I just know the raid drives would be toast with a new install… So, even though I have a fresh CDkey sticker waiting to be applied, I don’t dare touch it. So, that is some of my dirty laundry, so to speak, but I am sure I accurately described many people who are not polite, like you have been! I know M$ is a huge beast and I know what you are saying about how ‘us’ creative users have increaded the overall marketshare of M$ even though some may use non licensed OSes. It is just when I think about it in the grand scheme of things, $150 over 2-3 (6 so far for XP) years for an OS does not seem to bad. I was initially pissed when the activation thing was announced for XP, and took several years to calm down about it, so don’t think me too much a goody two shoes!
Take care all

Relax Take your Time Do not Read Time Complaining Posts Just Relax ! Do not worry we are with you. this is a Free Product. Saving lot of Time. Time=money. You are paying money to people & they are complaining ??? People out there read this before complaining.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:24 pm
I’m pretty sure everyone that has posted here is a 12 year old kid.
May 22nd, 2007 at 1:46 pm
Hey complaining people, why don’t you post your address up here so all of us who appreciate what these guys do and don’t expect them to give up their lives for this project can come to your house with a chains….er…uh…nice encouraging box of cookies.
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:54 pm
Loov you posted here too man!Are you looking for a playground or something? :-) Just kidding! AP is taking some time more than we would like to but on because these guys just want to create something that is perfectly working! It’s so simple ! Like M$ did with Vista!
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:55 pm
Keep up the good work.
Waiting patiently.
May 22nd, 2007 at 3:55 pm
The vista thing was just a joke!If anyone believes that should be ashamed of himself!
May 22nd, 2007 at 6:56 pm
Just take all the time you need and keep up a good work. No time is to long to wait for something good. Thank you!
May 22nd, 2007 at 8:12 pm

May 23rd, 2007 at 3:46 am
sitting here with the sun blazing outside. wondering
why
why
why
why
i’d rather be sitting in a beer garden with a pint if ice cold cider instead of infront of this $%*&^£$ PC.
My 2 cents worth. spend more time in the beer garden and less time infront of the computer. :-)
cheers

‘cmon its been since feb. when the last xp release. i realize that it takes alot of effort to recode an application but this is getting a bit ridiculous isn’t it?
I mean there have been tonnes of patches release for XP alone.
Think it would almost be easier to run a WSUS server locally instead. (*bows head can’t believe i just typed that)
RE: Vista comment ^^^^^
yeah we know how great vista is…..NOT!
“Mac is issuing salutation. cancel or allow?”
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:34 am
P.S. there even was a update for xp released today!
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:39 am
Just a quick note. Due to the Microsoft content in AP, they (AutoPatcher team) wouldn’t be able to charge a single dime without some major hassle. I feel Microsoft leaves them alone BECAUSE it’s free.
Why can’t we all just get along?
I learned about Autopatcher about 2 months ago and love it to pieces. Thank you for your hard work guys, from a frequent reformatter/reinstaller.
May 23rd, 2007 at 8:34 am
@ Adaman02
Did you read any of the other comments. The guys are doing this as a hobby while still in school. give them a break. I paid for a DVD in March of this year and am very happy to wait for it to be released. I check here every day.
It pains me to say however but,
However the odd update on progress wouldn’t go amiss. And if the updates are elsewhere then i apologize most unreservedly.
May 23rd, 2007 at 9:28 am
*** UPDATE ***
people have been screaming for an update on the progress, so here you go:
i finally finished the prerequisite feature for the new installer yesterday, thats been holding me back for ages. i now have five things left on my to-do list, four of them are extremely simple and quick, but have to wait for the fifth. the fifth is not so simple, but shouldn’t take long.
i am very, very confident that they will be up before or around the weekend :)
May 23rd, 2007 at 10:26 am
Thanx man….
that was heartening to know….
May 23rd, 2007 at 11:40 am
Awesome! Great work Lyndon!
May 23rd, 2007 at 11:55 am
Are you all foree-going the Beta version 6? I thought it was a breakthrough as well. Love Auto Patcher. Use it ALOT!!!
May 23rd, 2007 at 2:31 pm
i like watermelons and autopatcher
May 23rd, 2007 at 2:42 pm
I think the people here that have waited patiently should get a complimentary download. :)
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:13 pm
I heard that there’s spyware / adware in the new version.
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:30 pm
That fifth element thing that doesn’t concern me!
As for the simple 4 others, I did a simple job yesterday getting a sound card to work, took me 4 hours, I allocated 15mins!
If you’re a tech most would have had one of these.
Actually I’m stuck on another silly issue to, can someone tell me how to open %temp% folder view from a command prompt? I know I should know this.
It’s those simple things that are the hardest work.
May 23rd, 2007 at 6:33 pm
@ Iced Tea: You’ve heard? Have you tested it?
May 23rd, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Kim try
temp.cmd
@echo off
c:
cd %temp%
start .
May 23rd, 2007 at 8:42 pm
@Iced Tea, wow, I did not know that there is a rumor market out there for A/P. Either A/P user group is growing big or there are people out there trying to spike A/P, chances are both. If it is x64 or vista that you refer to, show proof. No case on the rest, Blaze is still developing those.
May 23rd, 2007 at 10:02 pm
Lyndon Brown Says:
i am very, very confident that they will be up before or around the weekend :)
That’s it, he said it. Around the weekend.
Everybody happy?
May 24th, 2007 at 1:47 am
@Kim there are 2 types of TEMP folders in 2 categories, USER & WIN:
In the Run task:
temp opens the WIN temp folder window
%userprofile%\local settings\temp opens the USER local temp folder window
%temp% opens the USER temp folder window
%tmp% opens the USER tmp folder window
In the command prompt (cmd.exe)
dir %temp% shows the contains of the USER TEMP
dir %tmp% shows the contains of the USER TMP
cd %systemroot%\temp open the WIN temp path
cd %userprofile%\local settings\temp open the USER temp path
It you need any more information or help, do not hesitate to ask.
Long live the A/P Team.
May 24th, 2007 at 8:16 am
@ Iced Tea: Haven’t I been clear about this? Check previous newsposts here (the ones written by me).
May 24th, 2007 at 9:08 am
Thank-you Phillip,
That command “start” was all that I was missing !!
So here is a run command (as an opposite example)
cmd /k “start “Thanks Phillip” /D%temp% /max”
Or the real one: (from cmd prmpt)
start /D%temp% /max .
Also thankyou ©«Crazy¤Lex»®=1980-01-25-Fri. those enviromental variables are where I started, I used all of them and even doubled them up, I would have eventually got to the “start” as a command.
I’m using this to remove and SHOW folder %temp% files
I like Start ! I used to like call, but not any more!

QUOTE Iced Tea Says:
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:13 pm
I heard that there’s spyware / adware in the new version / QUOTE
Maybe he means WGA (WindowsGenuineActivation) Because I think that WGA HAS in the PAST reported back to MS. (don’t know if WGA still calles home / is spyware)
If the PC fails WGA (and is genuine) I think you have to call MS.
I wonder if Autopatcher can include a fix (is there a MS patch to fix False-postive WGA failures??????
May 25th, 2007 at 8:05 am
“think that WGA HAS in the PAST reported back to MS”
Ofcourse, that’s the point of WGA
“If the PC fails WGA (and is genuine) I think you have to call MS”
This usually takes 10mins, and should be done.
“I wonder if Autopatcher can include a fix”
No way, just re-activate, either over net or phone.
Also to all non-legits out there, don’t worry, you can use AutoPatcher (actually a(pause)lot of people use AutoPatcher mainly for this reason) Just don’t select the WGA security update.
May 25th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Thanks for the update,
May 25th, 2007 at 2:49 pm
C&;NET just confirmed spyware today.
May 25th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
What was the spyware?
Also AutoPatcher includes lots of other things like Adobe Flash and google stuff and so forth, so maybe the so called spyware is coming from these apps.
As a point of interest, spyware can be counted as a program reporting back to usually their home site. So I think most do this with just the updates command turned on or even the thank-you screen.
Removing this spyware Before installing their App. may make it not work. Usually After installing any app I turn all these things off including any auto starts.
It has been confirmed by the AP team over and over that the AutoPatcher software itself does Not contain any hidden stuff, so if users are concerned, just install the security updates (the main reason and component for AP) and that’s all. All the rest are bonuses. (my understanding is lots of)
May 26th, 2007 at 12:50 am
Lou, can you provide a link? I’d be interested in knowing where this came from…
May 26th, 2007 at 3:46 am
Next release will be a full or update to previous full release…….
Can’t wait for it………….
May 26th, 2007 at 7:16 am
And i thought it was a ‘policy’ of Autopatcher’s to not include programs with spyware……????? At least that was the reason give for not adding messenger plus to autopatcher ?????

There is NO spyware in Autopatcher. Never was, never will be.
It was a false positive (msgplus!) coming from Microsoft Defender (aka Anti-Spyware).

May 27th, 2007 at 6:13 am
@panos the only thing you should care about is that it says SAFE on the right side! In addition, it is all about one file: ssubtmr6.dll and is a VB6 Subclassing and Timer Assistant, this can be used to detect windows settings changes in your application. If you want to know the bla bla look at http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/VB/Code/Libraries/Subclassing/SSubTimer/article.asp.
Long live the A/P Team.

Subclassing. I found it here:
http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/vb/Code/Libraries/Subclassing/SSubTimer_ASM_Version/VB6_ASM_SSubTmr6_Binary.asp
Version 2.0.0.0 (not sure if latest)
This is free and required file, and Not spyware

I’m having Windows XP November 2006 SP2 (32 Bit)
When will be the un-attended version of this will be out ?

For the Autopatcher version of Feb 2007 I used to supply the following switch to get its un-attended setups.

[CODE]
autopatcher.exe /noeula /unattend /nobackup /defaults:defaults.ini

Here defaults.ini is the Autopatcher Answer file.
Please help me to create even un-attended versions of your May 2007 32 Bit windows xp version as well..
