August 2007 releases
Posted by Lyndon Brown on August 20th, 2007 |
The August releases are here! Available from the download page
Note, the Vista & XP/Server-2003 x64 releases are not quite ready yet though, they'll be added real soon.
We have two surprises for you all this month.
1) We now have releases for Microsoft Office XP/2003/2007 (thanks to our new team member, Erik).
2) AutoPatcher 5.6 now supports slipstreaming updates into installation media, and my releases have slipstream installation instructions added to most general windows patches.
Updates
1) Office releases are now available to order via CD/DVD
2) We seem to be having some trouble getting the slipstream functionality to work as expected :(

Hi! Thanks for the August update. Was waiting for it from a long time. By the way, you haven’t mentioned the August updates in the downloads page. I can only see core downloads.

Where are the instructions on how to usw “5.6″ to slipstream (for XP-SP2)?
Thank you.

To the AP team:
I just want to comment on something I noticed with the August Core releases.
The Office patches and updates go into their own folders, Office2003, Office2007, etc. However, the Windows Updates are not organized as efficiently. Not that it makes a huge difference, but it might be beneficial to organize the Windows updates this way as well along with a “Common” folder for updates that are “cross-platform” so-to-speak.
For what it’s worth,
Aaron

Good thought GoodThings2Life about the file structure of AP. The issue though is that about half of the add-ons are applicable for multiple versions of Office which is why I made the file structure the way it is now. Within the Add-on folder, updates are organized by Office components (word, excel, etc) but if it’s applicable to multiple components, they are placed in the root of Office Add-ons.

Great patch..
I have the May core, June Update, add the add on, before the August core releases. (for my personal use and try out and it’s great)
And I’m thinking to used it at other computer. And i dont want to install all the updates (May core and the updates), so i have download the August release (which have all the updates from before, and i dont need to install those file) and plan it to use it to my other computers (at the office).
Just wondering…. where the add ons for the August?
Is the add from jun/jul us working with the august core? also the wmp 10 addons is working with august core?

Bill Gates can come and kiss my unpatched aero glass ass.
LOL.
August 29th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
Can we still get the autopatcher without the included updates and make our own packages? Or download the updates from ms directly and integrate them ourselves? There are plenty of patch automation products in the enterprise, but you have to download the patches from ms yourself.

That really sucks ass
August 29th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Thanks you guys for all your hard work. It was always appreciated.
August 30th, 2007 at 3:44 am
To all those who worked on and tested AP - thanks for the hard work & dedication over the years. A truly great product that MS could have learned a lot from. A really bad decision from MS, especially when they have apparently been happy with AP in the past. A big pity that they could not even seek some sort of a compromise solution that would have allowed AP to continue in some modified form.

Despite of that bad news I found and downloaded AutoPatcher_WinXP_Aug07_x86_ENU_Core.exe, but I can not verivy it because I can not find its correct md5sum. Is there any chance to find it?

What AutoPatcher was trying to do
It appears that the error occured while AutoPatcher was trying to get commandline arguments.
Where: mdlInitialization.Main()
Error Code: 0×35: File not found
Attempting to initialize common controls.
Accessing filesystem…
The log file is locked!!! AutoPatcher cannot write to it!!
AutoPatcher 5.6 loaded the filesystem.

What to do?
September 5th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
I’ve used AutoPatcher for a few months, and love it. However I’ve just installed it on a users machine and noticed that one of the tweaks removes the ability to save passwords when connecting to secure websites. Can someone provide a list of the reg hacks that are included in AP, or even what I’d need to modify to bring that option back please?
Thanks
Dave

AP August 2007 Good Release, When September 2007 Release ? Thank
September 26th, 2007 at 5:11 am
I dont know if this is the right place to ask this question. I found autopatcher when searching for Xp updates and thought it is a very good thing.
Since your site was down I downloaded from another site the “May2007″ core and later updates. i installed on my laptop. i have some questions :
1) I have licensed XP home with SP2 and windows automatic updates are on and updated. but when i ran autopatcher it did show few critical releases as uninstalled. if i install these and anything else, will it be a clash with auto-updates feature?
2) I saw in my add/remove programs some updates which didnt seem to be present in auto-patcher. Is this possible, or does autopatcher contain ALL updates that MS has released?
3) If I install XP Home or Pro on a computer and I run the autopatcher, will my computer be updated completely. Do I have to install SP2 first or is it within autopatcher?
4) If I select all updates and install in one go, will the computer reboot whenever required and then continue?
5) I had downloaded individual updates from some website (softwarepatch.com). Can i remove these files now, they should be in autopatcher?
6) Can I make an integrated bootable XP installation CD from autopatcher?
I hope you can get the time to answer
