Windows XP SP2 Re-Released Temporarily
Update - Reminder: Windows XP SP2 English release will be removed in one week has been removed.
Today I have worked on a re-packaged version of the AutoPatcher for XP SP2 which should account for all updates post SP2 to current. I believe that there previously was no warning about the SP3 release deleting all SP2 superseded updates which prompted this release.
That being said, this pack will only be up until next patch Tuesday June 10th. I love working on AutoPatcher but please understand that I continuously update and maintain thirteen release packs with possibly more on the way in the future. Having two releases for XP will make updating and troubleshooting issues that much more taxing on myself. If you disagree, then I'm sorry.
Please note that if you download the SP2 release, DO NOT download the SP3 release.

Thanks for this.

Nice to see you Lyndon (Blaze)! :)
I think you made the right decision Erik. I did the same thing from the beginning, becasue I know some people can’t/won’t upgrade to SP3 right now. But the old SP2 version will be discontinued in a few months (one or two).

Big big thanks great guys!!
Now I just dare to have a secret wish that XP SP2 may continue after June 10 with added updates as the come along…
May 19th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Sorry but no JanErik. SP2 will be removed from APUP on June 10th just as the first post states. I don’t want any confusion over this now.

does it have MSN massenger in it…….or will ihave to down it seprately
May 21st, 2008 at 12:52 pm
MSN messenger has to be downloaded seprately. Since MS bundled and encrypted the MS live products, there isn’t a way to directly download MSN live messenger from Microsoft.

If you are going to make SP2 and SP3 updates exclusive of each other, it would have been nice to make them exclusive within the apup.exe as well. In other words, I ran apup today to get the latest updates for an SP2 build, and selected SP3 updates, too, so that I would be covered with those in the future. Of course, NOW I see that I should not do that (which solved my problem)… but if apup had not allowed both to be selected, this would have been clearer…

If you read the above thread, the SP2 release will be removed next patch Tuesday June 10th.

I did read the above posting. The point is, that SP2 and SP3, being exclusive, should never even be allowed to be selected together within the apup.exe program… especially since this causes problems with it.

nice work out man!!!
June 9th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
I have a question.. IF I download the SP2 apup before the 10th, will it still function as is… after the 10th? If I selected the correct options I”m looking at 2.26Gig of data on a dial up. Even if you stop supporting SP2 updates, it would still be nice to continue to have what you have already done avaiable, with the disclaimer that further updates may be avaiable at MSN???

A little dissappointed. Came here on June 10, just learning unattended setups, and I find that sp2 autopatch is gone.
Perhaps you could send me a link or other info to obtain the sp2 autopatch.
Thanks

may be a stupid question… but what is the differance between XP(SP2) and AutoPatcher XP/2003 x64?
When I ran APU v. 1.04 there was no XP(SP2) listed only the ‘AutoPatcher XP/2003 x64′? am I getting the right stuff???? T-22 hours of downloading and counting dial up sucks.

noooo!
Im just 1 day late noooo!
I just wanna ask someone here for some advise… I lost all my OS systems yesterday and wanted to update them all back up to SP2 today.
Obviously SP2 is gone as of yesterday…
So my question is…
What do we do?
We cant upgrade to SP3 because they don’t like each other? am i correct in assuming thats what the above means?
Or can we just forget about SP2 and move on to SP3?
I dont get it?

to all them newbie folks who keep asking about SP2 and autopatcher: (ultra-simplified instructions)
Autopatcher does _NOT_ support XP_SP2 anymore! Please go install SP3 before using autopatcher/apup!
1) Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&DisplayLang=en
(Or search for KB936929 / WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe)
2) Download the file
3) run and install it - Your XP will now be SP3
4) Now use apup to download XP_SP3 and autopatch.
SP3 is better than SP2 and already contains _ALL_ the autopatcher XP_SP2 stuffs (and then some), and your XP is still just as stable.
XP/2003 x64 is for x64 machines. If you do not know if your Windows is x64 or not, most likely is it _NOT_.

Just my thoughts, but I usually wait a L o n g time before I opt to upgrade any of microsofts releases. It feels like putting up PEG BOARD where a wall should go.
June 19th, 2008 at 11:14 am
This is really lame, what about the people like me who prefer *not* to upgrade to SP3 and all the crap it comes with? I guess I’ll have to start using windows update again.

I have several computers to update only with SP2 and now i don’t have a solution for this… Why don’t we have option: windows xp sp2 - English?
This is bad…
