I am getting this application error when running apup.exe

Bad file name or number
in prjUpdater.mdGeneral.createPath at line 114

if I click ok I get to select releases. When I click next

it comes up with more application errors. The only thing different is I'm running this from a network drive but I believe I ran it before last week with no problem which is the last time I ran it.

Basically it means that APUP isn't able to create the temp folder "temp_bin" for some reason or another in the running directory. For a future build, I'll add some error handling to specify why the folder cannot be created. In the directory that you are running apup from, check your file permissions and make sure that everything isn't set to "read-only". Does temp_bin already exist in the directory you are running it on? Also what other application errors are you seeing?

after I click on that application error. It does create a temp_bin directory with releasese.list file.
If I click on the application next option (autopatcher updater) it will come up with the same errors.

The temp_bin directory deletes itself when I exit.

After you go pass the error, are you presented with the list of releases to choose from? Also, could you run apup.exe /log and post your apup.log file?

starting the program than exiting:

APUP Has Started

Operating System: English (1033) Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Current Locale: English - United States / Non-Unicode Default: English - United States
Starting APUP From: \\nas\share\Slipstream\autopatcher
Date & Time: 16-Nov-2008 19:44 UTC Offset: -5

***Downloading/Processing Releases.list***

List file HTTP location: http://www.autopatch...m/releases.list

***Releases.list Processed: Waiting for User Input***

Exit button has been pressed!!!

hrm. I ran it again thru the error messages and I guess it can't run from a network share cause reading the log file:

Missing file \nas\share\Slipstream\autopatcher\apup_bin\ files
instead of \\nas\share\Slipstream\autopatcher\apup_bin\ files.

I maped the network share and the error was gone. Guess I was dreaming about running it from the network share
Sorry for the trouble.

Ok. I see where I was confused. I can run autopatcher off the network share. The apup program however does not.
Maybe this can be resolved with a new release? Thank you.

I'll take a look at this after I'm done with this month's release. Playing catch-up with Vista and all the Office rleases.
