Hi, this is my first time here. About three or four months back, I had to re-format my computer because of viruses and whatnot. Because of that, I'm still stuck in SP2. Ever since the re-format, Ive had issues updating Windows. Using the official Windows Updater, it speeds through the different updates and says that they all fail to install. I've started using AutoPatcher today, but I'm still having issues. I've run AP three times (once initially, and twice with log gathering). I would like to post the log here, but it's too long for the board to allow it to be posted. I've hosted the file on MediaFire. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

First of all, this version of Autopatcher is for XP with SP3 installed; you'll have to upgrade to SP3 first, then run APUP and AutoPatcher to update your system.

You can get the offline installer for XP SP3 here: WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe

You need to make sure that Windows is working correctly, before trying anything else.

Make sure that the services are NOT disabled in Service Manager and that all the Windows Update and Installer files are up-to-date.

I'm pretty sure Windows is working fine. I checked the MSConfig and all of my Services are active. I don't know how to update my Windows Update or installer files. Trying to access Windows Update just send me to MSN.com. Accessing any SP3 files from the official Windows Update page gives me a 404 error..

This is a fairly reliable sign that your computer is infected with the Zlob.Win32.DNSChanger trojan.

Ouch! Infected a brand new install already? Sounds like you forgot to remove network cable while installing XP.

OK. similar problem. I am using XP SP3 and, yep it works fine. I cna get to Windows Update fine. Links are failing when I attempt to update Autopatcher.

of course it will give you an 404 error. the download link reported by apup has 2 - at the end, that needs to be removed in order to give an proper download link for your browser. i could check the md5 for the file, but currently i'm behind an corporate firewall that prevents most of .exe downloads and right now i is giving me only 2K of download speed (that allows me check that the download link works, but for any full download, it's a pain...)

If you work regularly with file hashes you soon recognise the MD5 hash d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e.

It means you have a zero-length file.

Both of those links are valid links and the files download OK, so there must be another problem your end...

yes, we can and we will do it, but before complain about something in bold, can you please take a look at Date Published: 1/13/2009? this means that this one was updated yesterday, also you may see in here. also we all are around the globe, we don't see the updates all in the same time. i was unable to reach this one last night, also the other releasers was unable to reach some other updates. this will be fixed soon

This is not the same error -- it is a new change, because Microsoft re-released a new version of the update yesterday/today.

V3.0 (January 13, 2009): Added entry to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Related to This Security Update section explaining that Microsoft has re-released the update packages for Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 on Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB952069) and on Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB952069). Customers running all other supported and affected versions of Windows Media components who have already applied the original security update packages do not need to take any further action.

The script will be updated very soon, together with the new Security updates also released at the same time.
