a suggestion could you have an optional (drive via a /debug Command Line*) Window that lists filename size and state that we could watch as the files download (or don't as the case may be)
ie the line would look like

kb34567821.exe 12MB Pending %file hash

and then

kb34567821.exe 12MB Complete %file hash
or
kb34567821.exe 12MB ERROR/CORRUPT %file hash
after it completes (or not)

*this should also turn on the /log function

There seems to be a problem with the hashes for directx again!

Looking for file C:\apup\modules\Components\directx.apm
MD5 Hashes do NOT match. Expecting 5C7237CD3C8996E2AA39F9D7CFCE07DF, but found c83285ff66c4fdbadb6c6cd3e7fae3e5!!!

Just tried the DirectX addon with 1.0.3 and I found no error whatsoever.
Are you sure it's not your connection?
Seems like it fails to get directx.apm properly.

How about posting a log?

Strange! Everything was working great with no errors over the weekend, now this morning i have this error.

There seems to be nothing wrong in that.
apup.exe found your directx.apm's MD5 a mismatch, deleted it, and then downloaded a new one.

Keep in mind that the scripts are updated regularly even if it points to the same update and thus may cause things like that.
It only means your directx.apm is older than the one in the server.

Yes i understand this, but it is giving me this file verification error every time i run apup today!!
Surely it should download the correct .apm file the first time?

As you can see, nothing's changed and it works like expected.
Like M2Ys4U said, your ISP's proxy might cache things up and still storing the old/corrupt directx.apm file, which is why every time you tried to download you always get the old file.

WOW! I updated the directx a while ago. That must be one heck of a huge proxy your ISP has!

only a theory, it could be something else mangling the data... I know my University's proxies decided to insert garbage at the beginning of certain http streams last week much to my annoyance.

Here's a strange one. Had the freezing problem with xp updates maybe 6 times; no big deal. Office 2007 sp1, something like 500 plus megs, not a single freeze. But.........ever since, web connection has been creeping much slower than dial up. (I have 5 meg cable service). Then browser (firefox2.0) started reporting server not found for any site i tried. Couldn't get online at all. Finally was able to get here after rebooting my system and modem 4 or 5 times.

Obviously, I got back online, but I'm a bit nervous.

Could APUP be failing to release its connection somehow? I'm only semi-computer-literate, any suggestion what to look for if it happens again?
