Could be a compatibility issue.

I used the Siginet's Office Integrator 1.1.08 (see http://siginetsoftware.com/forum/ ) to update my Office Pro 2003 CD with the SP3 update and 18 hotfixes. I then used the Integrator to make an ISO and burn a new Office Pro 2003 w/SP3 plus hotifixes CD. This CD was successfully used to install this version of Office on my system. Microsoft recognized it as valid and the Office Updater only listed two updates as being required when I did a check at that web site. These were two recent updates and had been posted after my CD was made.

I ran APUP a few minutes ago and then Autopatcher and found that AutoPatcher listed as required many of these same hotfixes I had integrated using the Office Integrator. So, I can only conclude that Autopatcher has no way of determining that a user has done what I had done.

Also, the Office Integrator has provisions, which I used, that allow the user to integrate Office Viewers and/or Compatibility Pack(s) setup files and updates which then creates a new .MSI file that can become part of the ISO and a new CD or installed later as stand alone updated programs. I am assuming here that Autopatcher cannot correctly detect this integration of setup files and updates either.

This version of the Office Integrator works with Office XP, 2003, and 2007 so I can only assume that the same issues of not recognizing the integration of service packs and hotfixes also pertain to the versions I don't have and cannot test.

I do know that when I checked at the Microsoft Office Update site and when the check of my system was done a listing appeared showing the service pack and the hotfixes/updates I had integrated were installed. So, there must be a way to determine what service packs, hotfixes, etc have been applied; I just hope this info can readily be applied to Autopatcher's detection routine.

It's definitely a compatibility issue caused by the way the Office Integrator does things.

If you are running a network and you maintain an Administrative Install point for Office, where that Install point has has updates applied to it, then you have exactly the same problem. Microsoft is unable to detect the installed updates in both cases.

The Office Integrator deals with this problem by artificially adding some registry entries in order to "fool" Office Update. It doesn't add ALL the registry entries generated by a proper update install -- the entries that are missing are, unfortunately, the very ones that AutoPatcher is looking for.

If you have the .REG file from your Integrator run, for us to look at, then that could give us a clue as to alternative detection.

I don't remember any .REG file being created during the process; only a .LOG file. (That may now be gone as I've upgraded motherboard, cpu, etc and have lost track of some stuff.)

Looks like I had not read the help file as closely as I thought.

You did not say which kind of .REG file MU or PRO11 - I could find only the PRO11.REG file that corresponds to the date I did the Integrating, no MU.REG, so I'll attach the one.

For my own testing purposes I'll probably be running the Integrator again in a few days, or so andif it's the MU you seek I'll sure try to remember that and save and send a copy.

DesertJerry, thanks for the information given.

The difficulty with checking the Registry keys listed above (that the Office Integrator "adds") is that they are product specific -- unless it always uses one particular key regardless of what CD has been used. In detail,
9040110900063D11C8EF10054038389C decodes to Office 2003, English, Enterprise edition, Volume-licensed.

There are actually something like 46 different Office 2003 products listed by Microsoft -- and that's just for one language. If we add to that the license type and language information coded into the registry key we come to about 1000 keys to check just to see whether the update is applicable or not.

That is why we have steered well-clear of the product specific keys because we would have to check all of them. We would then end up with our own scripted version of Office Update and, like Microsoft, a detection phase measured in minutes rather than seconds.

If you have ever examined the logs (6 to 8 MegaBytes each!!!) of installing Office patches you will see what I mean by checking all possible products. Microsoft spend a long time looking for something like 90 keys in 10's of languages. None of this is needed for AutoPatcher's English-only install logic.

If, however, Office Integrator is using complete fakery with the keys it writes and it always uses 9040110900063D11C8EF10054038389C then we might add it to existing detection, as an alternative, without too much of a time penalty. First we need to know if that is actually the case.

If not, then Office Integrator needs to add the Patch specific keys as well as the Product specific keys before we can do anything.

I read your comments and understand the headache that could happen trying to verify registry keys.

The only possible solution I can think of, for now, is to re-run Office Integrator, soon if I can, and then compare the PRO11.REG files and see if the keys are still the same. Unless they would stay the same because I'm running the Office Integrator using the same source, therfore, resulting in the same keys being created which would negate a comparison.

If the same keys do appear then maybe someone else with Office Pro 2003 can run the Office Integrator and the hotfixes to verify that they get the same key numbers too.

Right now I can't think of any other way to verify the keys being created.

I reran the Office Integrator tonight and as far as I can tell the keys are the same; the only thing changed was the date of the integration. So, to me, the only other way to test things is for someone else to run the Office Integrator and have it integrate, if possible, SP3 and the hotfixes. Also, no MU.REG file was created so whatever that is it is not a burden/help for what I did.

I also added the Compatibility Pack and Viewers as a chained install and their .REG files are included; if that helps in matching things up.

Not that I want to add to your task(s) but I decided to run Siginet's Office Integrator 1.1.0.10, Office XP (Upgrade) CD, Office XP SP3 upgrade, and the latest hotfixes that apply as listed in the Office Integrator help file. The only .REG file I found when all was done was the setup.reg file, no MU.REG or PROxx.REG, and it is posted here:

I mentioned the compatibility issues between Autopatcher recognizing Siginet's Office Integrator updates/hotfixes; they updated Office Integrator to version 1.1.0.12 to correct that problem; check here: http://siginetsoftware.com/forum/showthrea...405&page=43 - I haven't checked it yet to see if it cures the problem.

Thanks for the report.

That is good news, otherwise it was looking bleak because the Office XP registry settings that you posted above confirmed my worst fears: we would otherwise have to check all the product codes (hundreds of them!).

I will be releasing an updated Office XP (only) release later today.
