There is no real place on this forum to post general tech questions so I'm posting here. If I'm at home and connect to the VPN at my office do I get any performance gains when just accessing the internet? I know that I'm still limited by my home's connection speed so I doubt it, but I can't hurt to ask.

Depending on how your VPN is configured, you may still be accessing the internet files directly through your internet connection and only the private network addresses through the VPN tunnel.
