Hi you brilliant and wonderful beings at autopatcher

As I have previously posted autopatcher.exe isn't detecting office 03 updates. Cristiano, was able to help me out last time by advising the following.

Modules could be missing, so re run apup,

move apup folder to c:\apup

I have done the above, but it still hasn't worked.

I have also opened and closed the editor, no luck.

I have uploaded an image of my screen for you to see what i see.

I hope someone can help me.

Also i know this isn't the right forum, but i keep getting adobe flash player to install, when it is already installed. (on my screenshot this is what appears as 1 to install)

any help would be greatly appreciated and i thank you for your time in advance.

Regards
Shaz

This may be a problem with detecting the Student and Teacher edition, because the correct SKU is not listed.

Can you please read the Microsoft KB Article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832672 and tell us what the Product Code/GUID for the S&T edition is, that you have in the Registry.

You will need to look in the Uninstall key for Office 2003, in the Registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall)

Yes, that is the information I asked for, thank-you. What it shows, however, is the SKU for Office 2003 Standard Edition, which should be detected correctly by AutoPatcher, if the modules have been correctly written.

What it also shows, if this is the Office 2003 Student and Teacher edition, is that the S & T edition is identical to Office 2003 Standard Edition. This is different from the earlier Office XP.

It will take rather longer to see what the problem is.

ISSUE RESOLVED!!!!! :D

Hi all at autopatcher (especially James who has been helping me on this one)

I have fixed this issue
I ran manually the sp3 update from apup=>> modules=>> office 2003 and it asked for my cd as the SKU file was missing(for some odd reason) so put in disk and it installed it, and now autopatcher.exe is detecting and installing the updates for 2003 office student and teacher edition.

Many thanks to James for trying to help me.

Regards

Shaz

You have already found out for yourself, but deleting the downloads and redownloading never helps, because Apup will simply download exactly the same files as last time.

If you suspect a corrupted download, the remedy is always to run Apup a second time. If the first downloads are corrupted in some way, then Apup automatically detects that and redownloads only the files that have been corrupted.

If Service Pack 3 for Office 2003 is not properly installed, that would certainly be the cause of these problems, since AutoPatcher checks that you have Service Pack 3 installed before offering the updates.

If Service Pack 3 asked for the original CD, that is because the Local Installation Source (LIS)* has been deleted or was not saved at initial installation. It is possible to eliminate the LIS, in order to save room on the HDD, but it is usually a waste of time, since it leads to exactly this problem. The LIS for Office 2003 is about 300MB.

The whole point of the LIS is that you then do not need the CD in order to install updates.

Microsoft said:

Setup creates a local installation source in a hidden folder on each user’s computer. Windows Installer uses the local installation source to install Office, and the local installation source remains available so users can repair Office, install new features, and apply patches without being prompted for a CD.

(* Note: I think you mean Local Installation Source (LIS), not SKU -- SKU means something else. In this case SKU=12.)

Perhaps but it did state that sku was not found and to install installation cd. However what you said explains alot because after installing office, i told it to delete the installation files from the cache and that is probably what caused my probs in the first place.

I have learnt something, dont delete installation files until you have done all updates for your version of office.

Many thanks again James for ur help and ur input. It is invaluable and autopatcher are lucky to have a smart guru like you on board :)
