I went ahead and posted a request that the developer consider changing "UNREADABLE" to "MISSING" - I'm curious if "unreadable"
can mean more than "missing" for a file's status?

Followup: The developer was kind enough to respond rather quickly with a reasonable answer - part of it anyway.

Quote

Try verifying a big file, and in the middle of that long process, delete the file and see what happens.
If you were to do this you deserve more than an error message! :o

Quote

try taking away the read permissions of a file before trying to verify it.
This is a more understandable condition, and obvious but I missed it - pun intended. :P

Bottomline: HashCheck is a great utility - check it out!

in fact, it means more than "missing". and the answer for that is written into the developer answer. "delete the file" means that the developer knows that the file is there. but the status "unreadable" means that part of the file is broken and prevents that the reading process reach the end of the file. imho, he could set an "corrupt/invalid" status, that is more easy to understand than "unreadable"

Hello, is any one still on?

I'm encountering a problem with thee AutoPatcher Updater 1.0.0.5 or 1.00.0005 though then finding that it was a 'Beta' Version...
thee problem is it states to me after I choose 'AutoPatcher for Windows xp SP3' then decompress the 'Next' button that one
or more files has failed verification... but then understanding that there is a new version that has been released.

I've tried to download it again and its the same version and the same problem. KITT seems to be okay with the program,
he isn't having any problems with it but my netbook is.

Robert F., there's one file into apup folder named "hit this...". hit that file, open the .log file with any text editor and then open an topic about it, with the entire content of the .log file.

thanks

BrainDedd, by some reason, you are reaching an old version. the xp enu script was updated last night, to fix a few issues. the releases.list file contains the new download location for that file and it can be reached easily with apup or any browser. so, i'm not sure why you are getting this error, if the file is in the right place and the releases.list file has the right location for it. perhaps, just perhaps, you may be behind an webcache, that may be transparent to you and this webcache wasn't updated yet. just in case, open any browser, and open this url

then, be sure that this is present in that file. if not, hit refresh into your browser:

Please note this is a referal to a different pterticular item in this, um, forum dating back to Friday, July 3, 2009. Please don't
read this if your not to be refernced to this particular problem with 'Windows Defender'.

Its because the MSI file is in the ..\modules\Components\WindowsDefender_x86_enu.apm_x86_files directory where it is to
be in both.

(A 'CODEBOX' is to be here but it is just not ment to be then because of a web page error in the javascript file:
URI: http://www.autopatcher.com/fourms/jscripts..._text_editor.js Line: 1225 Char: 3 of an 'Invalid argument
under 'Windows Internet Explorer' and I can't access the file to find the true problem.)

the codebox isn't at "more options". you must type it by yourself in a post, like this:
(codebox) text (/codebox)

just replace ( by [ and ) by ] and the command will works.

if you wish reach the file mentioned by Mike, it is at page 2 or, at this link

by the way: nice name that you give to your machine. i know KITT as "Knight Industries Two Thousand", that was an nice car

> I hardly do sleep
too bad. i have insomnia from times to times and i really don't like it. but personal life means a lot more than just sleep, you know

@Robert F - Listen Up!

Look at this as a second warning for your first day at AutoPatcher - let me explain.

First. You posted twice in Announcements, right below my post warning another user Not To Post Tech Questions In Announcements.

Second. You seem unable to form a coherent statement regarding multiple issues you are having, with IE, using codebox, etc.
This is a tech forum - learn to communicate in a reasonable fashion. Also, take some time to learn about formatting your post, forums
provide everything you need to post a readable well formatted post - use the tools available to you. I spent an hour moving and editing
your comments - I didn't remove a word though.

Third. Don't show disrespect to the main taco around here ie; Cristiano.
Please note this is a referal to a different pterticular item in this, um, forum dating back to Friday, July 3, 2009. Please don't
read this if your not to be refernced to this particular problem with 'Windows Defender'.
Cristiano was trying to help you fix your problem and explaining how to do it the proper way - a log file. The contents of the
WindowsDefender.msi apm is of no consequence here. See my "sig" below, click "FAQs" - read the "pinned" topics.

If your problem is WindowsDefender.msi - re run "apup.exe /log" to download it to your release and all should be fine. If you continue
to have problems post your log file so we can have a look.

Lastly - and most importantly - Don't refer to your computer as KITT or you will be banned from the AutoPatcher forums and the internet
for life - are we in fifth grade again!

OK, I was informed that not all people who view the AutoPatcher forums would understand my last remark as a joke. I decided to do
a "Strikethrough" instead of deleting the remark as if I didn't say it. I was attempting to add a little levity to an otherwise serious post,
but in case some folks may not know - I can't ban anyone from the internet - again, a bad attempt at a joke, take the rest seriously.

> Silverlight.exe
updated yesterday. md5 matches with the new one that is downloaded.

> extras.rti
updated yesterday, due the update in the module and in the silverlight.exe.

so, all the updated files matches the md5 and, due that, your log shows what was expected for this situation. also, i've added this into the log of the extras script:
# 2009/07/09 - Silverlight v3.0.40624.0
(this one was released yesterday by ms and the script was updated yesterday, as stated in the topic about the extras package).

the 7za.exe file was to be updated ages ago. in a few days, you also will notice an update into apup/autopatcher dlls. there's an new version for those dlls too, but another test has to be done before we add that into the script.

so please, if there's anything else into your log that you are curious about (like the preactions), please be free to ask.

@dr Djidjimilovic...

Always run "apup.exe /log" a minimum of 2 times on the the release to determine if there really is a problem. Anytime there are
changes the log will explain them, in this case 7za.exe, Silverlight.exe and it's apm file, and the "rti" to make the release Official
were all updated - 4 files to download. A second run would have let you know by "Files to be Downloaded: 0" = all is good. If
there are files left after run 2 - Houston we have a problem.

..."Log Files" - More Info

Followup: I forgot to add that the release is Official!
