I don't know what's going on here. I've used AutoPatcher for a long time, but the past month or two I've had a lot of trouble updating it. This week I decided to start all over from scratch, redownloading apup.zip and redownloading all updates to a new folder structure. I've never gotten so many errors with it.

After running it on three computers over 20 times, here are the errors I'm still getting:

first of all: don't try download all the scripts at once, like you are doing. currently, we are unable to update all the scripts at the same time and some updates are shared between the scripts. sometimes, one or another update is replaced, breaking the scripts.

also, the issue that creates this: Unable to unzip file is the lack of 7za.exe in the apup. if you can, please download this file and save it into apup_bin folder. also, you may need the new apup, that you can download from here. the reason why this is happening is written in our main page: some anti-virus software now thinks that uz.exe is an virus (and it isn't. this is just another fake detection). since several users was blaming us due uz.exe, we had to set an command to remove that file. but this also have an issue: if you don't update apup first, you will be unable to extract the downloaded files, since the unzip task was done by uz.exe. about that, i'm sorry, but we can't do nothing about, except hope that someday certain anti-virus companies learn about it and fix the badly done detection that they have set to that file. but so far, they didn't.

also, yesterday was an ms patch day. for a few days, some scripts will remain broken. also, some scripts may be not updated anymore, due lack of people. currently, we just can handle for sure the xp and vista releases, because neither me or james have msoffice to be sure about the updates for those and we just can do those scripts blindly (and that is really a pain).

i'm really sorry about this issue, but we are really struggling to keep this project alive and kicking, but lack of people is a problem. fortunely, there's a few users of good will that are being trained to hold some scripts. but this may take some time yet and they are just a few

Thanks for the detailed reply! I have 7za.exe in the apup_bin folder, and Symantec EndPoint has not had a problem with it, so no issue there. I downloaded the new apup.exe that you referenced, but it appears to be the same file I already had (same filesize, MD5 hash).

I don't always try all scripts at once, I was just trying to get everything in one log file. That's good info to know though.

I just ran Vista 32-bit script by itself and got the following log. I would guess maybe these are files that were patched yesterday? What do you think about the ___windows_components_vista_x86.7z error? I can download that file manually OK.

Lastly, anything I can do to help? I've got VMWare, several versions of Win2K, Win2K3, WinXP, and Vista (but no 64-bit), and also Office 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2007. I could load up some clean VMWare sessions with latest service pack only and start generating lists of missing updates if it was useful every "Dammit Wednesday".

I also use Offline Update (useful for installing any missing service packs before AutoPatcher). http://www.heise.de/ct/projekte/offlineupd...wnload_uk.shtml I don't know if that list would be useful in determining newer Office updates as they come out or not, but it's a thought.

no. yesterday, ms had replaced some updates and released another ones. this us to break the scripts

right now, i have no idea about. when i arrive at home (at night, probably in 4h from now), i will do an download test. since i know for sure that apup works like a charm in my system, it may help me to find the answer to that

basically, our worst issues are related to the office scripts, because of the detection issue. erik was a genius in that script, but he is missing and the documentation that we have about it isn't complete, but any help is welcome

some lists around the web also lists non-public updates and we can't deal with those. i don't know if this is the case

if you are willing to help us, please, take a look at the basic guide that is attached in here. it isn't for office, but it helps to familiarize yourself with the process. after take an closer look, if you believe that you fit to the task, please reply that we may add you into the beta team, to begin the training

i've added you into the beta team. now, you will see an hidden part of this forum, where we discuss about the scripts and also about the ones that can do something. in that area, we also do tests with scripts and we help to solve issues related to the building of one script. please, report yourself to that area
