Download apup.zip

Extract apup.zip to your drive -> C:\ -> this will create C:\apup

Run apup.exe, make sure the selections are correct. Also, DO NOT select multiple OSs! I'm going to assume you want XP SP3 x86.
Make sure these 3 are selected - they should be by default:
...AutoPatcher Updater
...AutoPatcher Engine
...Windows XP SP3 x86 (the native OS will be selected, change if another OS is wanted, but do not select more than one OS).

Download the release by clicking the "Next" tab - wait until the download completes and click the "Finish" tab.

NOTE: It is a good idea to create a log file when running APUP, -> apup.exe /log -> use "Run" from the "Start" menu.

Run "apup.exe /log" at least twice (within the same folder) if you should encounter errors, and then post the log in the proper forum.

Please do not post support questions in the AutoPatcher XP x86 Hotfix Depot topic.

Boy this is getting tiresome - first the zip file creates an \apup folder, then it doesn't, and it looks as if it
creates a folder when extracted - once again - so the above instructions apply. This was a waste of a post.

I know - Step 1 - Download apup.zip fails, they needed to add the file version to the zip therefore no more static link.

What you need to do is go to http://www.autopatcher.com/downloads/ and get the latest zip file (AutoPatcher Updater),
everything else applies, continue on with Extract... :)

Note: I wanted to mention, in some cases, APUP will force an update to the latest apup.exe, meaning, in the Run step you
wont be given a full menu, you will be given a selection box for the latest apup.exe, select it, download it, when APUP is run
a second time the full menu of all available releases will be displayed. Continue on from Run...

Also, the latest version of APUP offers the ability to remember your selections via the Options tab.
Make your selections - click Options - check Remember Selections - click OK - download the release(s).

Update:

The AutoPatcher & APUP Forum is the 'Start' ( Front ) page now, autopatcher.com will redirect users to the forum.

You will find the latest apupxxx.zip at the AutoPatcher Updater (APUP) download pinned topic.

Ya, well it is NOT so stupid, if anyone cared to check!
Try typing in http://www.autopatcher.com/downloads and What you get is THIS:
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@autopatcher.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. Apache mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at www.autopatcher.com Port 80

THEN,...

If you try downloading the latest BETA release, and unpack the .zip archive, then all you get is THIS:

Missing necessary files to run AutoPatcher Updater!!!
Fatal Error Detected, Forced Shutdown Now In Effect.

Actually that error line is specific to apup2 not apup.

That error only happens on a certain errors, Errors like missing files, unable to create a log file, or unable to detect the environment.

In his case it is a missing file. The zip file uploaded should be fine though, since no one else complains. Perhaps your zip file is incomplete. Try downloading it again.

in the main dir you should see...

Apup2.exe
aamd532.dll
IndyInternetDLL.dll
and a folder called apup_bin, inside that folder should be...
7za.exe <--- 7zip zipping utility command line
7-zip.chm <--- the windows help file for 7zip
aamd532.dll <--- another copy
capcab.exe <-- unpacks cab files.

He's not the only one having the problem. I've tried downloading the zip file several times and I get the same error message saying it's corrupt. I downloaded apup2 beta and it's currently downloading the winxp modules. Thanks for the great product!
