I have copied the files from apup_bin folder to c:\winnt and c:\winnt\system32 as per indications in other emails.

I still have no luck. The log file is very simple and short:

I am at my wits' end -- any solutions suggested for this? Many thanks in advance.

One thought -- we use Webwasher here, it occasionally intercepts long downloads and pre-loads them into a network cache.

Could you please list all security software you are using, firewall, anti-virus, malware etc, and any type of network info,
(corporate environment etc).

Please check that McAfee is allowing Apup.exe and all its components to run, including allowing the VB controls (OCX files) access to the Registry (so that they can register themselves) and including direct access to the internet.

Apup will not work through a proxy server, or anything similar, that intercepts your internet access. Apup will also not work if MSWINSCK.OCX is blocked in any way.

I do not see any settings in the McAfee that would block apup or any of its ocx's. Thanks.

please, double click at the M in the tray, network and internet, configure. in "firewall protection", click at advanced. in software permissions (or something like that, because it may vary according the language), look for "autopatcher updater" and allow full access to internet

by the way: it's a miracle!!!!! mcafee was blaming us for an false positive since half a year ago and now they finally gives us an green

If your computer is part of a network, there may be software you are unaware of, firewall, proxy, etc that has filtering rules that are
interfering with apup.exe. If you have IT guys at work I would ask them.

How specifically does your computer connect to the internet?

I believe apup.exe needs port 80 to function properly - without impediment.

BTW, if you are downloading an AutoPatcher release for home use, I would quit trying to download from work. I'm sorry if that seems
like a dumb statement but your pc setup environment / purpose for using AutoPatcher isn't real clear to me at this point.

I've bought a CD from here before you stopped making them. Some PC's don't hook up to the Internet (by choice), and my home setup for my Internet-access PC is a slow dial-up. The office does require us to keep our home PC's up-to-date and security-safe for when we dial in to work from home, so getting it at the office over T1 is not an attempt to "steal bandwidth" from my company.

Anyway, thank you very much for all you do.

I'll ask the network guys to do that for me -- it's not listing it as a forbidden (or even listing it all), but the controls are locked down.

I'm not sure if you are saying this because you think I was hinting at the idea or what, I was making a simple observation,
you hadn't said why you needed an AutoPatcher release. If you needed a release for home and with all the obstacles you are
having at work, simply stop trying to download from work - that's the whole point, nothing else.

When you use words like forbidden and locked down it simply means more trouble than it may be worth trying to run APUP
from within this environment. On the other hand, if it was for work, let the IT guys figure it out, it is their job after all.

I'm well aware of the dialup dilemma and tried to solve it by using school connections but had many of the hurdles
you are having. I had to resolve myself to maintaining my AutoPatcher releases using dialup and a download manager.
