2 - the job isn't just build the module, we also need to be sure that it will work in several situations. in order to do that, the module must be tested in several systems, including those that already have the betas, the ones that have ie7 and the ones that just have ie6 (like an clean reinstall);
3 - add an download at the same minute that it is released doesn't help a bit. why? easy, you and ms servers aren't the only ones in the world. the updated must be mirrored in most of ms mirrors and that isn't done at the same minute than the update is released. so, despite you can download something, another one in the other side of the world may be unable to;
4 - we do have a life
of course this one will be updated, but this will be done as soon as we are sure about the first 3 things and the 4º issue allow that.

not just that. i've started my laboratory tests with this one. just after you install IE8, you will be required to install KB968220 (noncritical). also, i've already had my first crash with ie8. if yours wanna try, go ahead. just do like this:
- open windows update and check the new updates. you will find KB968220 in there. don't apply it yet;
- move to microsoft download center and search for KB968220;
- in meantime, open a new tab, with WU (just imagine that you forgot something). you will have an description about the tab working in that new window and WU will be opened at the first tab. it may crashes after you choose back a few times. at least, ie8 re-opens the same page (but at least in this case, it has opened just one of the 2 tabs)
by the way: KB968220 is from 06/03/2009 (ddmmyyyy) and ie8 is from 19/03/2009 (ddmmyyyy). probably this one will require the same detections than ie7 had

simply throw this thing together, wing it, and hope for the best.
What a pity there isn't a slightly more respectful approach to asking to include something in a package. If they actually knew what was involved they would ask in a far different manner - you can believe it.

Not that I haven't had my share of instability with that in the past either though. I'm so not looking forward to another IE release; I've still got clients upset over IE7 and FTP issues.

have you already tried home banking with ie7? for some time, i had to choose firefox instead, because home banking just wasn't working. also, ie7 made me loose some money. long time ago, i've paid for one license of musicmath jukebox 6. then, ie7 arrived and mm just didn't worked anymore. and the reason was very simple: mm chooses ie also engine to an built in feature. with ie 6 out, that engine doesn't work and also mm. one word: upgrade, right? it could be very simple, if they didn't have optimized the new version to intel and run it in a amd machine (my case) becomes a pain. given time, i've just given up of mm, but i'm pretty sure that this issue will happen again with several other softwares
probably i will do an ie8 package to those that wish to test it, but i will not remove the updates for ie7 so soon. first, the issues related to softwares must have some time to be solved. it was in the same way when ie7 arrived and also with other major service packs

particular piece of software to it's full potential before an upgrade comes out - Adobe Photoshop, or any MS Office come
to mind.
I love Firefox but version 3 had serious problems for many users, high cpu usage, locking up etc, or what about AVG 8,
that version is what caused me to abandon AVG all together - for right or wrong, I just got tired of the bugs.
I love AutoPatcher but lets face it, its a shame it should have to exist in the first place, at least to the degree it does. Can
you think of anything else you spend your money on, other than software, that you would tolerate the amount of time and
effort you have to put in just to keep it running, compatible, and safe - I can't.

And it looks like Logitech mouse drivers cause IE8 to crash, too.

they are crazy. on my systems, ie8 runs very fast and i only have athlon xp 2600+ machines. ok, ok, last time that i've checked, i've got 3.5 at vista score and most of the machines that i have to fix barely get 1 (and, by the way: my machines are almost ancient if you think about an c2d)
> Logitech mouse drivers cause IE8 to crash
what a new... is there something that doesn't crash when ms release a new major update or even an new OS? at least, my personal machine has an samsung pleomax mouse and shall be immune to it. wait a minute: i had 2 crashes with ie8 already

Nowhere in my post I implied that it's an easy job to do, or that they are lazy or whatever! I know very well that they must test every update very carefully.
I feel that not only gUiTaR_mIkE but Christiano and James have misunderstood me as well. I didn't mean to be rude, or push you to update the script. And you guys, certainly didn't have to explain yourselfs to me!!
I tried to be as friendly as I could; that's why I used the word "please" and the friendly emoticon "
Anyway, now that I explained myself, I hope we can forget about it.
Peace!

Noted: The displeasure with my sentiment felt by doomedOk, maybe I slightly over exaggerated the point and I didn't mean to single you out but I still believe it is essentially
true - sorry.
I have been looking closely at how lenient the guys are with requests and criticisms around here and I don't feel they get
enough credit for the work they do and it shows itself in many of the posts.
Now, I spend time at 3 other forums where (free) technical software is discussed and I have been comparing the approach
poster's have at (unnamed sources) and AutoPatcher - it is remarkably different. My guess would be the way the forums
get moderated, and the resulting training (whether they know it or not) the newcomers get, which creates a needed level
of appreciation - (I know, a little on the academic side).
1. They enforce strict rules with regard to cluttering up the forums with redundant posts especially by newcomers. Here, the
same questions get answered over and over and over, I might add "nicely", even though using the "search" function
could bring up the answer.
2. "Please update the scripts"
appreciation from the viewpoint of those who do the work (I exclude myself from this group).

I use 2 Logitech products that came with iTouch (4MB) and MouseWares (4MB) and now they offer the bloated SetPoint at 60 megs.
When SetPoint first came out Logitech made it hard to find the old installers and would redirect you to SetPoint. I see now they point
straight to iTouch and MouseWares once again, for my products anyway - thank you.
