Log Files & "Quotes" - Please Read!

This is a "reference" post only - for you to read.

In an effort to keep threads readable and to minimize the amount of text to sort through, here are some guidelines regarding posting log
files and using "quotes" - please follow them when posting in the forums.

About Log Files:
First run log files can have 500+ lines of text for any given OS, select a second OS and the amount of text to sort through multiplies quickly,
not to mention the likelihood of more errors when downloading your release(s). So, when posting log files for troubleshooting purposes,

...Always run apup.exe /log at least 2 times - please don't post first run logs.
...Only select the release you are having trouble with, don't post log files with multiple items selected, especially OSs.
The "Updater" and "Engine" are OK, XP SP3, Vista x86, and Office 2007 - not OK.
...Log files fit nicely in what is called "codebox" (code is different). Using codebox allows a minimum viewing window
for reading and creates a scrollbar on the right to move through the log.
...Always post a complete log file - don't edit out details, they may be important.

...You can "preview" your post to see if the formatting looks good. Also, you can "edit" a post and add formatting later to clean it up.

A word of Caution! If you should put APUP in a very deep path -> C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\apup\ -> your log file will scroll to
the right from here to California when using "codebox" so keep the path short -> C:\apup works great.

About "Quotes":
There's not a lot to say here, "Quotes" are fun to use and the forum offers this feature because it does come in handy, but only when used properly.

...Don't make it a habit of hitting the "Quote" button, quoting a previous post in "totality" - it is not necessary to repeat every word.
Some posters have a bad habit of hitting this button every time they followup and it makes the thread very cumbersome to read.

Please use the "Quote" feature - just sparingly. ;)
