Folks: Just ran AP today (v1.05) and after 7 hours of downloading updates, I find that 'autopatcher.exe' is missing. I checked the download zip file even. No file.

I ran this on Win2k/SP4, fresh install.

Can you help?

ie:

AutoPatcher Updater -> apup.exe related files

AutoPatcher Engine -> autopatcher.exe related files

Hi: sorry I didn't get an alert that someone had replied, plus I was in CE classes yesterday (ug)

Anyway: First, I did a windows search over the entire C: drive with: *autopatcher*.* It couldn't find it anywhere, just in case I may overlooked it.

I tried to run the apup /log, and it started downloading a new update, then stopped for 20 minutes. It wasn't frozen, just stopped. I think it something died between here and MS.

Tried it again 4x, and it says:

fetching apup.script from www.autopatcher.com

the top progress bar shows it to be about 99% done (unless there's suppose to be a space there.)

The bottom bar shows nothing.

The timer below says 7.5 kib /s -- 0:00:-13 remaining

It just sits there until I hit finish, which of course erases the log files.

I managed to copy the last log files before I hit finished but which one do you need? The faq wasn't clear. One is around 82k in size. I can e-mail them and zip file of Apup.zip I downloaded if requested.

Run Apup again. Same folder as before. DO NOT delete any files. Keep ONLY the first two entries selected (Apup and AutoPatcher Engine) and UNselect the Windows 2000 entry. Make sure that NO other entries are selected. Post the log file here.

If you have deleted anything at all since the last run of Apup, you must again run Apup twice.

If your last log-file is 82k it will not contain anything useful to me, it will just be full with details of all the Windows 2000 files that are still missing.

Please let us know which part of the FAQ is not clear. If you are asked to post a log file, it must always be from the second run of Apup, never the first. Never delete files, never change folders or anything else between the two runs of Apup.

PS: on a successful download, autopatcher.exe will be in the same folder as apup.exe

What Cristiano meant to say was, please use the following when submitting your log

[codebox]<Paste the contents of you apup.log file between these tags>[/codebox]

codebox tag makes it easier for us to read the log when you post it (so it doesn't scroll the whole page)

Hi kcredden...

I've read this thread a few times and it reads a little chaotic and unclear (in terms of what you have actually done) and it seems you are unsure how to setup and use AutoPatcher / APUP, create and read a log file etc? I get this from these statements:

autopatcher.exe should be in the same folder in which you extracted apup.zip (assuming you selected AutoPatcher Engine) when you ran apup.exe. You haven't said exactly what you selected in APUP nor what release you are trying to download - just because APUP is being run from 2K doesn't tell anyone that 2K is the release you want to download.

There should be one log file, it gets updated when you re-run apup.exe /log not erased. Any errors that were there from the previous run if still present will get written to the updated log file. BTW, did you read the log file, what did it say, errors, how many files were left to download, what selections did it show you made? This information would be more helpful than information about the behavior of the progress bar.

Where did you extract apup.zip -> C:\apup?
Do you have any files in the modules folder?

From within the same folder you are working now (not a new folder)
If what you want is a Windows 2K SP4 release, select in APUP,
AutoPatcher Updater, AutoPatcher Engine, and Windows 2K SP4 (or whatever OS, but only 1).

Re-Run apup.exe /log and post the log here according to These Guidelines.

Once we know more about how you setup APUP, from where you are trying to run apup.exe /log, and have an updated log according to the guidelines, maybe then we can make sense of the issues you are having.

Mike
