"Missing Files" error when running...

I have strange problem with AP. I have downloaded apup.exe, unpacked it and downloaded all the relevant patches. When I run autopatcher.exe it all works fine, except that at the end of the installation the auto reboot causes an error. I ignore the error and reboot manually and the updates appear to installed fine.
Now, when I try to run Autopatcher.exe again it gives me an error message which says "missing files" and it won't run.
If I run apup.exe and download the autopatcher engine again it works fine for one update session, as before, then the "missing file" comes up again on the next use and I have to download the engine again before each use.
I have tried choosing don't reboot and rebooting manually to avoid the auto reboot crash/error but I still get the 'missing files" problem on next use. So I am not sure the two problems are linked.
I am running autopatcher from a mapped network drive. I unzipped the apup.exe to a folder on the network drive and ran it from there. I then run autopatcher.exe from the same folder on different machines on my network. After each use, even with different machines, i get the "missing files" error I have to re-download the engine.
I am unable to copy the autopatcher folder from the network drive to the local machine without getting the same problem. Sometimes I get a "missing files" error during the file copy process, but sometimes not. I always get the "missing files" error when I run the local copy of autopatcher.exe.
I am unable to run apup.exe on the local machines as our internet proxy does not allow it access to the downloads. Besides this would seem to defy the point of autopatcher as i would have to download all the updates again for every machine, so might as well use windows update.
At the moment I am just re-downloading the the engine on the only machine without an internet proxy to the network folder before each use and avoiding the auto re-boot, which is very frustrating.
Has anyone got any ideas how to resolve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention: all my machines are XP sp3

> I am running autopatcher from a mapped network drive
that is the answer to your issue. autopatcher doesn't work in remote folders. please, do an copy from your shared autopatcher folder to the local machine, in a short patch (like c:\autopatcher) and then run autopatcher. it shall fix the issue
