problem with kb890830

Mark Lloyd's Photo Mark Lloyd 13 May 2009

I have been consistently unable to update AutoPatcher for Windows 2000. A screen shot of the usual error message is at
http://notstupid.us/...or%20screen.JPG .

It indicates a file not found. I looked in AutoPatcher's directories and found the file IS there, but with a length of 0 bytes.

I searched the web for kb890830 and found a copy, which said it was version 2.10 (rather than the 2.8 AutoPatcher looks for). I tried downloading it to the (previously mentioned) directory. That didn't help. Then, I tried renaming it to v2.8. AutoPatcher deleted it, created a 0-byte file, and complained as usual.

Is there any solution to this?

no pal. in the image, there's just the info about an issue regarding one or more files. in your log, there's the name of the file and we will see the name of the file that has that issue only when we do full download tests. now, we know where is the issue and now it can be fixed. this script is being fixed, but this isn't the only one issue that this script has and it may take some days to fix all the issues

thanks for your understanding

@Mark Lloyd
@sunnytimes

Make yourselves a note about 2 files, namely Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT) and Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter.

These 2 files can get updated within the same week and therefor produce the APUP error message you see, this is no big
deal really. Usually by checking the forums you will see something posted by either their name or KB number with the
typical retort - updated again.

It is easiest to simply say MRT (KB890830) or Junk E-mail Filter (KB905866) has been updated again if you run an OS that
utilizes either of these updates.

BTW, the 2K script is being tested and a working (updated) script will be available soon.

Sorry if you misunderstood. The SCREEN output is identical.

No big deal that AutoPacher is unusable?

no, pal, it isn't. at your screen, there's not any info about your system, settings, nothing. also, in your screen, we can't see this: Unable to unzip file

> No big deal that AutoPacher is unusable?
autopatcher will work anyway without those files, but with the error that is listed at the botton line of your log, you may be unable to install several of the updates

ps: please, just copy the part of the post that has some relevancy and write the reply. write the reply in the quote doesn't help to find where you have wrote your reply

True. However AP didn't send that to the screen, but to a file "apup.log". Anyway, what I really wanted was for AP to work (it works fine for XP, just not for 2000). It still fails this morning.

If you could report your experiences with KB961373 (DX8)/(DX9) (was it selected for installation / did it install properly, and was it
Blue in AutoPatcher after reboot)?

Followup:

It is included, and it's in blue after the update.

Also, in a few days rerun APUP to download the new rti file to make 2000 SP4 Official. Of course, this is more cosmetic
than anything, your system will update fine, it's the red Unofficial warning that's nice to remove.
