Ok Cristiano,
I did and have done before the procedure you described.
But I still get the same error. So the problem lies not in GData but somewhere else. Or is that a hastily conclusion?
Maybe you and Mike can find something in my earlier sent procesexplorer reports.

the only "not should be in there" that i saw was that Home Networking Configuration Manager. but still, i'm unsure if this has something to do with the issue. also, adaware had become more and more annoying among the years, so i'm not running this one anymore since long ago. also, this one has issues with my security suite, that has an anti-spyware tool built in, pretty similar than the one included in gdata total care. i have one idea about it and it may be really silly, but killing processes, one by one, should help to track the issue. problem: you may be required to run control panel, administrative tools, services. there's one "stop" for each service (no need to disable it, just stop). for each killed process, an attempt to run apup. the idea about just stop is that if you kill the wrong process, then you just will be required to reboot to fix the issue

by me, i would start with adaware and the sharing services. of course, there's an list of safe processes that doesn't need to be tried, like themes, etc. also, an start point: ctrl alt del, taskmanager and hit one by one. just don't do that with svchost.exe, services.exe, explorer and iexplorer. another idea: before start the test, close everything that isn't required at the moment, like adaware.

sorry, but i only was able to sleep less than 4 hours last night and while i'm typing this i'm almost sleeping...

Sorry to hear of your lack of sleep. Hope it has not anything to do with this thread. Maybe some party?

Anyhow I have killed Ad Aware thru the proces explorer, but that did not help. I don't think it is that because I see aawservice in the proces safemode list. And in save mode apup is working.
In my latest proces expl. report file I did not see the Home Network Config Manager being active,
butmaybe you mean the Active Sync app.
But that is not it either. I have just killed that proces, but the error remains.
Did the same with the logtech updater, with the same result.
At this moment I don't want to kill some processes one by one, unless someone points at a specific proces.
Afterall I can run apup in safemode.

So maybe one of the other readers of this thread has an idea?

no. i do have insomnia. last night was just another night of it. the sad part about it is that i'm unable to sleep at night and then i stay the entire day fighting to not fall asleep driving or at my job. at least, also i drive an bike, i have to pay more attention and that helps a lot to not sleep

it could be an hidden process as well, but figure what may be an problem. that issue just happen in that machine or in all of yours?

sorry, but right now, no more ideas, but one: something to keep me awake for the day.

Now, I don't mean to offend but I think Cristiano has went way out of his way, even to the point of installing software
to troubleshoot the problem, 44 posts later, mine makes 45. So, I think you may need to take the tips offered, and
continue the process of elimination until You find the offending service, software etc.

It would be nice to have someone else do it for you but you are the closest to the problem - your PC is in front of you.

This is my opinion and if Cristiano or someone else wants to do the work for you, great, but I think everything you need
in terms of what and how have been offered - you need to continue the process at this point.

Cristiano I am very sorry to hear about the imsomnia. Mike is right about you going way out of your way in this thread to help me out.
I will follow your latest advise about killing the processes one at a time. But not at this moment, I spent already to much time behind my PC, according to some at home.
But I will keep your guys informed as soon as I have finished the killing proces.
Meanwhile thank you very much for what you have done for me.
