"Permission Denied in prjUpdater" error

Hi,

I'm seeing this error from time to time when I update AutoPatcher. Usually happens when it's done updating and I hit "Exit" after seeing the Verification Failed message I posted about in a different thread. The specific message is:

Application Error

Permission denied
in prjUpdater.frmMainForm_Unload at line 106

Any help?

Get the same error. Log file says:

***Downloading/Processing Releases.list***

List file HTTP location: http://www.autopatch...m/releases.list
releases.list: 403 - Forbidden/Access Denied

Exit button has been pressed!!!

Demian, your issue isn't the same. your issue is error 403, that probably is just an temporary issue with our server. if you wish, this explain the 403 error.

if after sometime (a few minutes or a few hours) this doesn't solve by himself, please state your OS, security software (name and version, including any script blocking software) and the OS and service pack level from the machine that is having this issue. also, if already had an previews incarnation in this forum, please let us know

Same problem here. Here is my log:

the md5 mismatch is the only error message recorded. I have tried to run it as administrator for it complaint about permission, but no luck at all. The only thing different to what Antharro mentioned is it is persistent. it happens everytime when I run apup.exe (Version 1.1).

yesterday was an ms patch day. kb890830-v3.1 was replaced by kb890830-v3.2 and for sure something else may be broken due that.

please, do not clean the logs. sometimes, things that you see as irrelevant may have certain relevancy to track issues

Hey Cristiano,
Just to let you know I also get this error but mine is for line 116. Error reads as follows : Permission denied
in prjUpdatermdlshellexecuteCommand at line 116. This has occurred ever sine the last update of apup.

It only occurs when I update autopatcher and only on the first pass.The only thing I do in the directory after each session is delete the log file so it's clean for the next update.

please don't do that. the only one thing that this log shows that is wrong is the detection of the rootcert module and i've just checked this one. the extracted module matches with the expected one that is downloaded. may be an shot in the dark, but you have any file with read-only attribute in modules folder? if you is unsure, there's an way to undo it anyway. just right-click the modules folder and, in attributes, let unchecked "read-only" and click "apply". if asked, check "apply this to subfolders". this will reset the read-only attribute for all folders

so please, if after this procedure your first log still shows something wrong, please post the first log. the error may be showing in there

Hello,
I am having similar problem with retrieving scripts..popup box shows...

"permission denied in prjupdater .mdlshellExecute.executeCommand at line 116".....

Shows lot of missing files in log...I had the main folder on secondary drive with longer path...
I have moved apup folder to C:\ and removed read only permissions but still same error.
Have included original log...thanks

it's likely that the read-only wasn't fully removed, but there's also another possibility: apup does command-line operations to erase/move/rename files and folders too fast and some anti-virus catch that as an viral operation. of course, isn't the case, but in this case, it's the behavior that matters. so please, can you state the name and version of your security suite and please, can you try 1 release at at time, at least to see if this issue is solved when 1 script at a time is running?

Greetings Cristiano,
As to your reply, My anti virus is AVG Internet Security Ver 8.5.448. It did not pop up with any warnings during APUP operations..One thing I did do was to rename the paths in the log file after moving it all to C:\. All paths were set for the original path ffrom secondary drive. was simple to do a replace in notepad to rename D:\updaters\apup to C:...That seemed to help but still got same permission denied error...also I made sure all reaad only permissions were changed...still same error...I discovered that exiting apup after error and retrying multiple times that it would finally go ahead and download scripts and run as intended...Dont know what thats all about but hey I finally got it to work...I also decided to download updates for Vista and win7 for my friends if they needed them and still got the error..2nd try succeded and I now have them....I wonder if it's not a prob with my lower bandwith connection and timing out...I am on a wireless connection that shows i'm connected at 12-24mbs...fasster than dialup for sure but still slower than I'm used to...nnormal download speed from MS site is usually 100-200+kbs..
Think you maybe right about trying one release at a time, but I still got the error upon starting APUP to fetch other releses...trying multiple times was the only way I succeded in getting them..thanks..hope this helps...."OZ"

well, the error that happens when you are behind an slow IC is another one. so, seems more likely that this one is related to your security suite. sometimes, it's easy to track, it's just disable the firewall and try again. if doesn't help, then disable the anti-virus and try again. anyway, avg 8.5 it's kinda old already. v9 is already obsolete and there's the 2011 version now

it has to do with an wrong setting at the script, nothing to really worry about. it will be fixed in a few hours

Run APUP again and update your release, there is a new script and a few new updates. Btw, your path is crazy long, with 'commas' and spaces - your're asking for trouble - why not a single directory w/ subfolders... according to the log -> D:\Data Storage\Avg ,office and windows Offline Updates\apup\

If I was setting this up...
D:\data.storage
.......................\apup
.......................\avg
.......................\office
.......................\windows.offline.updates

I have been receiving this error for three months. After apup.exe finishes (showing the error 11 times), I run autopatcher.exe. This apparently runs and completes, BUT when I run it again the following month, it shows that none of the previous patches (two month's worth now) have actually been applied, or at least that it doesn't think they have.

I have set the entire autopatcher folder and subfolders to not read-only. I have also tried turning off my Avira antivirus before running apup.exe. Neither action has helped. I also use Comodo firewall, but have entered the entire autopatcher directory as a trusted item, and both apup.exe and autpatcher.exe as trusted files.

My last apup log file is attached.

apup only downloads the files, not apply them. have you tried disable avira before run autopatcher.exe? also, prjUpdatermdlshellexecuteCommand at line 116 is related to download. a few days ago, i've did an full download test didn't found any download issue and your log states that the download queue was processed, giving an indication that your issue isn't related to prjUpdatermdlshellexecuteCommand at line 116 (or, if is, it's something related to your local machine). so, please, update your system to sp3 and try again

Hi Christiano,

Many thanks for the reply. Yes, I disabled Avira before running apup and autopatcher both. Update to sp3? Since I have been using autopatcher for a LONG time, I kind of thought I was updated. If not, how do I do so?
