[Solved] 'Application Error's

Lately, I'm experiencing lots of these errors. Please Help.

right now, i can't see those images and your log seems to be finishing as expected. also, there's another issue: our site is being upgraded and, right now, we are unable to fix the scripts. i do know that there's 4 updates that replace something in the current script. i will take a closer look into your error tonight and, as soon as possible, fix it

we are working on the scripts, my friend. but in the last week, i didn't had time for nothing. to give you an idea of, my "lunch" yesterday was an cup of kefir (and just because it was already done). but i'm finishing the new modules. i'm not sure about KB968389, that will require an registry change in order to be activated, but i will test it

Your Temporary Files folder (on drive C:) appears to be full. Or you cannot write to it for any other reason.

Do you mean the folder that I get using %temp% in address bar? I cleared the contents of that folder and also the contents of D:\Windows\temp folder and I still get those. BTW, I have my Windows XP SP3 Pro installed in D: drive. Could this be the problem by any chance?
Also, do you mean the temp_bin folder that apup.exe creates each time it is executed? That folder gets created always when apup.exe is launched and deleted when it quits. I hope this is how it is supposed to work.


Plus, even though I get those application errors, I'm still able to download when new releases are available. IMO the apup.exe is working fine except for those messages. But I can say for sure that SOMETHING IS GETTING SCREWED internally. You guys should tell me.

Hey, please don't get pissed off by my bump :( . I didn't mean that you weren't working or anything. I just wanted somebody to tell me whats wrong at my end so that I could correct it. Besides, I didn't read about these kind of 'Application Errors' anywhere else so it is obvious that I'm screwing up something here and that its not your fault ^_^ .


Also guys, I'm getting new 'Application Errors'. Here's my latest log. Hope this helps pinpoint the problem.

(I have moved the folder to F:\APUP - Windows)

Yes, althought strictly speaking it's using %tmp%, not %temp% (the two are usually referencing the same folder, anyway).

%tmp% usually references C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

Apup creates a small batch (.BAT) file in that folder, runs it, then deletes the file. The error dialogs are reporting that the batch file cannot be deleted (several times), then finally that the batch file cannot be created, written to, closed, executed or deleted (in that order).

Maybe, but probably only if %tmp% does not point to a folder with full create/execute/write/delete access. Apup makes a system call to find out where %tmp% points to, so (in theory) it should work fine.

Since no-one else has encountered this problem, we are assuming that it is not a script error.

No. And, that is how temp_bin is supposed to work.

Open the Other styles drop-down list and select Spoiler (4th item in the list).

Thank you very much James. It really did solve the problem.

I use:
Norton Internet Security 2008 and
Norton AntiBot 1.1.851

The problem was being created by Norton AntiBot 1.1.851.

Solution:
  • Before launching apup.exe, disable Norton AntiBot temporarily by:
    Double-Click on NAB icon on system tray -> Press Stop.

  • After it says Disabled, launch apup.exe, finish the updates.

  • Now click Start in the NAB interface.

NOTE: Adding apup.exe to the Allowed list in the NAB interface did not solve the problem at all. So IMO, disabling it temporarily is the only solution for NAB users.

Yes, this is happen with KIS 2010, but not with KIS 2009.

strange. but now there's an trial version for kis 2010, in english. i believe that i can run it in my english vm and test it. if not, i have an hd that i can spare to that test. but i will do that only this weekend. during the workdays, time for this can be a problem...

KASPERSKY 2010 ISSUE SOLVED? - i was having the same exact series of pop up errors, only happend after i upgraded to KIS 2010, after trying to set the firewall to allow the apup.exe it would still do the same thing, so i went into KIS options and chose the "threats and exculsions" section, i then opened the exculsions settings and added the apup.exe to the "trusted applications" group. since adding it to the KIS trusted applications i havent had anymore pop up errors anymore. hope this helps someone else.
