Hi Guys

just d/loaded Autopatcher Updater v1.05.As per the User guide it d/loads a zip -> couple of folders as well as a "hit this to generate a log file for apup.cmd"

Not sure if relevant but nothing installs into C/Program files, rather all extracted files contained in local directory including apup.exe

I hit apup.exe and screen occurs about fetching releases but nothing proceeds.Speed was 1.9KiB so left overnight.Nothing.

Then hit the "generate log file" which to my surprise opens another instance of apup.exe via cmd line but more or less the same deal.

Tried with no firewall (WinXP) or AVG anti viral...no difference

Unlike a similar post here I get no files.Other poster seemed to have missing files from what I understand?

Any suggestions appreciated

A quick update and apologies also for kinda duplicating a previous post...but thought this was fundamentally different problem...perhaps not.....

Above problem relates to my desktop pc, win XP Pro SP3 Asus MOBO PK5e quad duo CPU,American Megatrend BIOS ......I dloaded the prog to my dell laptop, unsure of hardware inside but it has XPSP2 (not SP3) and using same windows firewall as my desktop , Using AVG 7.5 (8.5 on desktop).....and apup works just fine, downloading all files so far selected

As a workaround I will update my laptop to XP SP3 ( I gather this can not be done using autopatcher),use my laptop/apup to retrieve all necesary files ( for both machines) and then use files to update my desktop pc.I hope AP still works when i update laptop to SP3 but if it doesnt then the answer to the problem will at least be known. Also updating the laptop to AVG free 8.5 may or may not prove to be the culprit. If all continues to work well in the laptop using identical software it will mean presumably a hardware incompatability problem in the desktop is the culprit

Thought others might find this interesting in solving this problem which obviously others are also experiencing

Hi Sam_Lewis and welcome to these forums.

If you have not already done so, please read the following pinned topics in the General Support forum:

You will also find that log-files and "hit this to generate..." are explained in the pinned topic How to make and post an APUP log-file

For your particular issues:
  • The files are installed to whichever folder you select. Not installing to C:\Program Files\... is by design.
  • We have never encountered a hardware incompatibility with Apup; always they are software issues with AV or third-party firewalls.
  • Never disable the firewall that comes with Windows; it is completely compatible with Apup.
  • When running Apup, always ensure that the first two items (Apup updater and AutoPatcher engine) are kept checked.

Your method of downloading to one computer and then transferring to the second is exactly what Autopatcher was designed to do. Just make sure that you copy the contents of the folder with AutoPatcher.exe in it and everything beneath that.

Let us know how you get on.
