It looks like the scripts are stable, time to concentrate on the patcher release

I've just updated a new XP-SP2 release with version 5.6.81. It did the job nearly perfect. Only one failed to update.

Windows defender still shows that it needed to be updated - In Autopatcher it shows Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1593.21

Current install shows

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1593.0
Engine Version: 1.1.3007.0
Definition Version: 1.23.4365.0

The rest looks very good. Just need the release info stamped as official, and then it looks like we are ready to go.

IE6 Cumulative also shows as not installed.

About Windows Defender: they (silently) released a new version in May 5 2007. It still shows the same version in the file, but the registry say other thing:

DisplayVersion=1.1.1593.21

You have to uninstall the older version, then install this new one.

@Cyrus - I'm assumming that you are using IE6 in your mobo? Also, could you check the MD5 for the catroot KB939653.CAT?

I'll take a look at it later tonight

By IE6 I mean Internet Explorer v6, which is not a part of the motherboard. What do you mean by "catroot"?

"catroot" (or, to be more accurate "CatRoot") is a folder off the WINDOWS folder tree. It is used by Windows as part of the Digital Signature / AuthentiCode / SFC (system file protection) process.

On a Windows 2000 box, the full location is (usually):

C:\WINNT\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}

(Windows XP will follow the usual convention of substituting "WINDOWS" for "WINNT"

In that directory, you will find lots of files with the .CAT / .cat extension, which are Digital Signatures used exclusivley by Windows itself, usually invisibly to the average user.

NB: treat the whole folder tree and every file under CatRoot as read-only unless you particularly feel like having to repair or reinstall Windows!

Every security update from Microsoft is Digitally Signed and every one that is installed will have a KBnnnnnn.CAT file in the above folder
