Took my old AP from August 2007, deleted the existing "module" subdirectory, then copied APUP from latest 12/3 release into main directory, downloaded 1.25 GIG !! into the newly created "module" directory, then tried to run Autopatcher.exe and got the following ABORT

What AutoPatcher was trying to do
It appears that the error occured while AutoPatcher was trying to get a file's MD5 hash.

Where: mdlReleaseIntegrity.getMD5HashFromFile()
Error Code: 0x9: Subscript out of range

then I hit "show log" and got the following

Attempting to initialize common controls.
Accessing filesystem...
AutoPatcher 5.6 loaded the filesystem.

Tried to do the same thing by putting APUP in a virgin directory by itself, ran it, let it download 1.25 GIG again, then tried to fire it up by clicking on Autopatcher.exe and immediatly got a "Files Missing" dialog box. So I reran APUP here, in case the original download was screwed up, ... but got the same "Missing Files".

SO, help, what's wrong?

Heck no ...WTF!! I used the most recent 12/3 version of APUP, put it in a a clean directory (no other folders or files), and when I ran it it created a bunch of differences.
1. It created an apup_bin folder and put 5 files in it - seems to be the same
2. It created a bin folder and put nothing, zero in it
3. It created a translations folder and put nothing in it
4, The root directory has an additional 6 script files, autorun.inf, releases.list, an uninstall.exe, but no log file

??????????

It won't look like what he posted until you download the AP engine script, the office scripts, AND the XP release.

uninstall.exe - seems a bit odd, it looks like the previous August release.

apup.log gets created when you run apup.exe /log - this will generate a log file, very good for trouble shooting

bin and translations gets generated when you download the latest apengine.script file through apup.exe - it will also extrat autopatcher.exe

note: just trying to help

Rudy & Cyrus,

The results I indicated I was getting were after I downloaded apup.zip, exploded it into a clean directory, ran apup.exe, and downloaded 1.25 GIGS of XP-2, Office 2002, Office 2003, and Office 2007 ... and then reran apup.exe in case any part of the apup.exe mega download got screwed up in the 1st running / download from apup.exe

I've now tried this entire process 2x and still the bin and translations file are blank, plus other results as above.

????

Rudy & Cyrus,

The results I indicated I was getting were after I downloaded apup.zip, exploded it into a clean directory, ran apup.exe, and downloaded 1.25 GIGS of XP-2, Office 2002, Office 2003, and Office 2007 ... and then reran apup.exe in case any part of the apup.exe mega download got screwed up in the 1st running / download from apup.exe

I've now tried this entire process 2x and still the bin and translations file are blank, plus other results as above.

????

Hi Bubba,

bin and translations gets extracted when you choose the autopatcher engine download, its the second option on the apup download menu, called Autopatcher Engine 5.6.81, 30 November 2007. Check it out and lets us know.

run "apup.exe /log" when you download apengine.script, and post the log file contents here, if you still experience any problems.

Man Your Guys Are Awesome!!!!!

From reading this thread my apup woes have ended!!!

I started fresh by deleting all folders and files in my c:\autopatcher directory.

I downloaded the latest apup.zip file with the 12-3-07 apup.exe file.

I extracted the files in the newest apup.zip into my autopatcher directory.

I unchecked everything except the apengine update and retrieved it.

I re-ran apup and downloaded v3.3 only.

The download stopped at the very end without finishing. All I did to fix this is to run apup again with only 3.3 checked. It retrieved the last bit of info which were files telling autopatcher what files are available to install.

Then I ran autopatcher. At this time autopatcher is downloading the files. No glitches, no errors.

I think the key was to totally delete everything within my autopatcher directory and start fresh.

Thank you for all you folks do.

This is a fantastic program.

King

:D

Thanks for the great work everybody. I'm sure that the other learned a lot from this experience. I"ll see about updating the apup link to the current version so this doesn't happen again.

@Bubba

Did you download the one from the link Renato posted over at the Announcements forum or this one :

http://www.autopatch...engine/apup.zip

...?

As Cyrus said, apup Dec 3 has two versions, in which the older one is what Renato posted on the first post of that thread and the newer one is on that URL I posted.

If you already had the newer one, then I don't really know what's wrong.
I myself hadn't got any trouble with it BUT I didn't download the updates for Office; though that might not be the case since, unlike your troubles, my \bin and \translations folder aren't empty (filled properly) after apup.exe finished the downloads and it was on a fresh run in an empty folder.

This is frustrating ...
I downloaded APUP.zip (706 KB) from the URL, exploded the zip into a brand new directory, then tried to run APUP the first time from the Start / Run /Brouse to new directory with apup.exe and a blank Bin folder. I added "space forward slash log" argument and got a "file not found apup.exe /log" in a dialog box. I did this several times and got the same results. Help, if you can .....

If you tried to use APUP in the last hour or so, you might be getting this because of the dotnet pack. Uncheck dotnet and try again. I will have dotnet fixed in about eight hours from now

I only had the "Updater" and "Engine" boxes checked ....everything else, including dotnet, was unchecked.

Interesting... I'm experiencing the exact same error but this is due to dotnet. by default, there are a couple more modules checked but you have to scroll down since you don't see them at first.

Other than this, I'll have to investigate this later...

Wait-wait-wait; something is really off here.
If you extracted everything from the .zip file to an empty folder, then there should be no other folder aside from apup_bin, and that folder should be filled with uz.exe and the likes, not empty.
