Hi, I left my computer on over night to download a bunch of updates & I get this error. I attached the screen shot. If you need any further information please let me know.
Was downloading over 1GB of updates.
I retried the program but same error. I restarted the computer & tried again. Same error
Great utility by the way. Very nice peace of software, a premium tool if you ask me.

Umm, don't wanna be pushy but about how long do you think I'll have to wait for another response or solution?
In the meantime, I'll probably try re-downloading the software & the updates on another computer to see if it all goes well or I get the same error. I can't do this for a while though as I just sold my laptop & I'm not planning to go to a friends house or anything else as of yet but if I do I'll post the new results here.

kk, I'm reformatting my PC anyway. Small fetish seeing if Windows 98 SE SP2 with all updates ever released will work on my newer dell that has;
2GB RAM PC1600 333 or 400MHz don't remember, L0l.
2.8GHz Intel CPU
250GB HDD I'll just make a 5GB partition for Win98.
after that I will format again & load xp back.
thanks... But can you give me a time frame? a couple of days? a few weeks? Months?

Hello,
some thinhgs before reply:
1. AutoPatcher is a FREE project with a FREE support
2. there is not a "standard time" for replies
3. there is not a "standard time" for release
So... I've updated two scripts: autopatcher_offsp2_07_ita.script and autopatcher_off_07_glb.script but I haven't updated the script for SP1 or SP0 Office 2007.
You have downloaded autopatcher_offsp2_07_ita.script, autopatcher_off_07_glb.script and autopatcher_offsp_07_enu.script... some file are overwrited and they cause a mismatch.
I'll update these files (in autopatcher_offsp_07_enu.script) ASAP.
Bye.

Thanks, AKA
I know this is a free project & you don't have to do anything for anyone; I know that. Doesn't hurt to ask though, L0l.
By the way, the .NET framework update thingy is out of date. It doesn't download all the .NET framework updates or their updates.

> It doesn't download all the .NET framework updates
can you please state the missing ones? i don't see any one of them missing if installed properly and in proper order, but i can be wrong. at a first run, i select all the critical/non critical updates, plus all .nets and something else. at a second run (and that is really required) i select the missing critical/noncritical, .nets and something else. after reboot, i only see at WU 2 .net updates. one is an obsolete language pack that is already covered by .net 3.5 sp1 language pack, but wu is a lot out of date and don't realize that and i also see another .net update (that i don't remember right now), but this other one always fail to install, because this one also was replaced by some other update and doesn't install if the new version is in there. but again, wu is out of date and doesn't realize that. but also i said, i can be missing something
thanks

Umm, was I supposed to run the AutoPatcher a second time after the reboot?

Anyway, when I saw the windows update site had more .Net framework updates & some others I checked Add/ Remove to see if it was installed or not. I saw a similar name but the KB00xx00x was different.
Sorry, I can't show you a screen of the Add/ Remove because I tried looking for it but I can't find the same thing from before.

from .net package:
# 2009/06/24: (Cristiano) +KB963707
KB951847 is .net 3.5 sp1, that is included in the package
# 2009/06/20: (Cristiano) +KB961118 (XP)
KB928366 is at xp enu package, as an critical update. this one is at the main package because this one aims the version that is included in windows xp
so, seems that nothing is missing and seems that this issue can be easily fixed by checking the modules to install and not forget that an reboot after a first autopatcher run is required before you be able to install the dependent modules, by running autopatcher again and selecting the missing ones
just as an test, i've tried wu again. if anyone is interested, i see as "missing":
KB928416 - language pack. it's already included in .net 3.5 sp1 language pack that is already installed, but wu doesn't realize this
KB829019. another language pack. same issue

Sorry but I don't completely understand what you are saying. Can you ref-raze? Try and explain it a little more clearly?
Even if the Auto-Patcher downloads the update, it doesn't show it as an option to install. Not after any amount of re-boots.
I'll do another clean install tomorrow and see. I have an original Microsoft Windows XP PRO SP3 CD. The final release, so maybe the older SP2 disk is a little different & causes some updates to not be registered correctly. My guess is that the Auto-Patcher probably did download it but the problem lies with the Auto-Patcher to allow me to install it or not. Because when the Auto-Patcher start it scans & determines what updates are supported & can be installed.
EDIT ONCE MORE: I have to go to bed now but it would be reckless of me just to assume that the files were downloaded. I searched through the files & folders & I did find one of the updates that I ended up downloading through the WU site but the rest weren't found.
Look I don't want to or like to discredit & if I turn out to be wrong I apologies for it. I'm only a singe user of this peace of software & I want it to be the best it can be.
That said; may I ask. Are the lists of updates, updated manually one by one? What I mean is, are each update added to the autopatchers list one by one after it is know that a new update has been released? So you guys probably check for updates every singe day. On all versions of windows, different office suits, languages etc.

> it doesn't show it as an option to install
yes, it shows. this is xp enu script plus .net package, running into my system. the interface is translated, sorry, but my enu vm is down since a couple of weeks:

http://img291.images...551/dotnets.gif
in that screen, you can see
Microsoft Windows - Critical Updates
Microsoft Windows - Recommended updates
Microsoft Windows - Updated Components
and, under this last one, .Net Framework. i can set an enu vm to show that screen in your own language, but it will take several hours
but the main issue is that the user must expand all modules in order to see all those updates. sometimes, is easy be lost among them. also, with the .nets, in a first run in a clean machine, you will see only .net 3.5 sp1 and a few more. the updates for .net 3.5 sp1 will be show only after an reboot, because autopatcher will show only the updates that are required to the system. if .net 3.5 sp1 isn't in place, then the updates for it aren't required and will not be showed. as for the updates for .net that are critical/noncritical, i can show you only in my own script, because those are restricted to enu only, if i'm not mistaken
> So you guys probably check for updates every singe day
not quite right. ms has an routine and release updates in certain dates only. of course, we still check every few days just to be sure. but we may lack something sometimes.
you know, sometimes, somethings may go wrong. we may do mistakes. due that, is nice when someone report something that doesn't look right.

yes, it shows. this is xp enu script plus .net package, running into my system. the interface is translated, sorry, but my enu vm is down since a couple of weeks:

in that screen, you can see
Microsoft Windows - Critical Updates
Microsoft Windows - Recommended updates
Microsoft Windows - Updated Components

Hi, sorry it does seem that all of the updates were downloaded & installed. It was probably my fault. You see, I used nLite to integrate some updates I downloaded manually before I found out about this program. I might have downloaded some updates that were long replaced as I was looking at the add/ remove program to determine what to download.
Anyway, I used my original XP PRO SP3 CD this time around & then I checked the windows update site to find that there were no new updates..

Moving on.. I should probably make a new thread but Hmh. well I dunno
I think a few days ago some new updates were released, I think this was a day or two after I re-installed XP & ran the auto-patcher.

I ran the "apup.exe" to download the new updates but it only found & downloaded the new "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool". As you can see in the first screen the off-site windows update downloader doesn't recognize that is has already been installed. That's not important though. I didn't know if you guys didn't know about the new updates yet or it will be added later on?
thanks, 'n
Best Regards 852258.

ok. you have downloaded the new mrt. but did you run it? i can't see your screens right now (corporate firewall). but ok, i will check that detection again. it was right last night, but ms sometimes do silent updates...
> if you guys didn't know about the new updates yet or it will be added later on?
until close to midnight (gmt -3) the only one thing that was in here was the new mrt. so, at that time, nothing to do except mrt. right now, in here there's the new exploitable index. so, we have to read each one, take all the download links and the removals, etc. but that is just the initial idea, because at the very first one, there's 2 updates, one for systems without ie8 and another one for the systems with it. so, the list of updates can increase... due the amount of the updates, the scripts shall be ready in 2-3 days

Cool, thanks for the quick response & the info.
I didn't run the mrt manually so I didn't scan but doesn't it scan automatically? After all I didn't think it actually installs anything. Doesn't it scan & mark that it was installed? Because I didn't see anywhere in xp where I could run previously installed mrt's.

no. apup doesn't apply anything. so, the updates can be installed only manually or with autopatcher.exe
> I didn't think it actually installs anything
mrt doesn't install anything, but it makes an change into the registry, that wu checks in order to offer an new version for mrt or not. autopatcher does the same. the detection is done by this:
RegistryPath=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools\MRT
KeyName=Version
KeyValue=B279661B-5861-4315-ABE9-92A3E26C1FF4
of course, this key value is for this month only.
> Because I didn't see anywhere in xp where I could run previously installed mrt's
the ones downloaded by wu stays in a temporary folder, that us to be cleaned after run. the ones downloaded by autopatcher are erased as soon an new version is online

and
No that's not quite right.
The file that WU or Apup downloads installs and runs another file.
The file that is downloaded is called windows-kb890830-v2.14.exe. When this file is "installed" it updates a windows file called MRT.exe and then silently runs the new MRT.exe with a "quick scan". MRT does not show on the Start Menu, but you can run MRT.exe manually by typing "MRT.exe" into the Run... box or at a Command Prompt. Follow the instructions that appear on-screen

yep.when you extract kb890830 there's the mrt.exe inside. so, that kb is just an package to run another file that is inside, like the directx redist
