This might actually be my fault but I'll let the code writers decide.

So... Right after a clean install of windows XP SP3. I installed all drivers then I ran the Auto-Patcher from a CD.
Now, my CD/ DVD drive seems to be failing because half the DVDs I try to play, don't. & it takes sometimes as long as 7 minutes for the DVD to start playing. The software freezes up everything during this proses. Now it's not because the PC is too old & can't handle it. It's actually not a bad PC. Anyway, CDs usually don't cause any problems with that drive.

After I installed updates & rebooted, I ran the auto-patcher to install the rest of the updates. I left for a while & it seems like the auto-patcher froze at 3 min. 05 sec. installing an update at 99%.

The auto-patcher; frozen, using 50% of the CPU consistently. after about 20 minutes(I'm not sure of the time because I want up stairs to play on my own computers watching movies etc.)

I got this error -

After a certain time; I rebooted again installed the rest of the updates & connected to the internet.

& this is what happened then.........

I assume that the update didn't install fully or correctly & caused this to happen.
E:\ was the CD/ DVD drive to clarify
My guess is because the E drive is faulty/ defective or/ & failing the computer lost contact with the drive causing this error. This is only my guess so it's open for speculation.

according to your log, KB971961 has an issue. it is fixed now, thanks for your warning (sorry, but due an hd failure, i don't have enough space to build an vm and test for files in the wrong places). as for the delay on reading the dvd media, this is related to the device. you know, any dvd/cd burner/reader has to change something to read an cd/dvd. if part of this process is broken or failing, it may works nice with cds and not with dvds.

as for your guess, please state 6 numbers, from 0 to 60. i wanna win something in the lottery :P (you know, that is just a joke. my "lucky guess" another day was an defective hd...)

12, 53, 44, 22, 01, 18, I want half of the money. L0l.

Anyway, I was gonna mention that too. KB971961 failed to install for me. On both computers, I installed it with the auto-patcher & restated ran the auto-patcher again & the update showed that it still wasn't installed. I restarted & try a few more times it didn't work.
I checked add/ remove & confirmed that it wasn't installed. I had to search for the file manually & install it. After that it worked nicely.
Are we talking about the same thing?

about KB971961? yes. this one was arriving in the wrong place and the folder and the module need to be in the same place in order to work. the module was in the right place, but not the folder. i've edited the script to move booth files to their proper places. none download shall be needed, only run the script

as for the numbers, that lottery will pay around R$ 24,000,000 (1 USD=1.8 R$) :P
