I have been using Autopatcher for atleast 4 month. It is a great tool. Since 4 days i am trying to download the newer updates through APUP, it starts the downloading process, it shows fetching the files, then it stucks there and finally the finish button shows. As such no updates are downloaded.

The log file of today's testing:

I just ran APUP and made the selections for my system. Script was downloaded, a couple of minutes passed and the Finished button appeared with nothing being downloaded. Do not know if nothing was really supposed to be downloaded. Log file follows:

just one question: can you state the name of the anti-virus/script blocker that you are running? there's an know issue regarding apup and kaspersky 2010 that doesn't have any other solution than press exit. if this one is up, forget. but of course, it may be related to another issue...

one advice: we are cleaning the scripts every 2 months. it may not be an good idea update an older release

To whom are you addressing your question? Me or the original poster?

For your info, I tried again a few minutes ago - same results.

Anti-virus: Avira AntiVir Personal

Script blocker? None - never heard of such a thing.

The scripts I have are dated 02 September 2009

in fact, booth of you. in your case, if you have scripts from 02 September 2009, you should download:
kb890830 v2.14
+KB971961 (JS 5.7 and 5.8); +KB956844; +KB968816
KB931125 (rootcert)
Windows Update Agent 7.4.7600.226

i didn't tested avira to be sure if apup is working with this one. you know, apup was working with kas 2009 and isn't with kas 2010, so this sort of things can happen. i know for sure (because i've already tried) that apup works with symantec 360 2010, panda total protection 2010, gdata total care 2010, mcafee (the latest one that could be downloaded, i don't remember the version). of course that apup works with more, but i didn't tested all. the links for those are present into the xp enu script and are alive. so, this may be an issue. can you please check if those kbs are present into your apup folder?

> Script blocker? None - never heard of such a thing
most of anti-virus software have some tool that provides that feature. but some allow an free download of tools that has this feature. i know for sure that symantec has an tool that has this function and for sure there's more software like those
Since 4 days i am trying to download the newer updates
When was the last time you updated your XP SP3 (x86) release? There haven't been any updates that I'm aware of since I ran
APUP on September 29, 2009. What does AutoPatcher show for the "Date" and "Official" status - see info below.
The scripts I have are dated 02 September 2009
That's odd, are you saying when you ran APUP on Oct. 07 (or today) the temp_bin folder had scripts dated Sept 02, you may have a web cache issue?

Anyway, I just ran APUP and attempted to download all the scripts mentioned (from scratch) and I had no problems (308 files / 1.15 GB needed), I also
attempted to update the same releases and all were updated and no files were needed. See log file below.

Something odd is still going on. Just tried again - no luck, same log file as above except for today's date.

Also, I was at a friends house today helping him with his system and I ran APUP while there, it performed the same as here - no downloads. It had run just fine about two weeks ago.

I'm going to have to do further checking tomorrow to see what the hell is going on.

I've had Avira AntiVir for months and it had not given be problems before with APUP; iincluding any mesages about scripts, or blocking scripts.

Turned off Avira AntiVir Guard function and tried again - still nothing - same as earlier. Getting late here. :angry:

odd. but with kas 2010, turn kas off doesn't work. the only one thing that works with this one is press the exit button. and my trial with kas 2010 is coming to an end. one month with this garbage eating more than 400MB of RAM every single time that is scanning something is enough for me. doubts? i will remove this one today, but i will be forced to download avira again in order to test if this issue is created by avira or not. the reason? AVG free is now thinking that the latest avira installer contains malware and this one is now gone. but no problem, i can test it easily.

test done. KIS 2010 removed, avira free downloaded, installed, fully updated, including product update, set to work in paranoid mode and check for everything. apup worked without errors. this was the log generated:
Spoiler

so, this isn't an issue created by avira. also the script works, it isn't an issue from the script either. so, this may be related to something in the machine tested or even with the connection. of course, to perform this test, i've removed the updated newer than 2009-09-13

Turned on my #2 system and ran APUP - had not been run for a few weeks. It fetched then downloaded a bunch of stuff so this confirms to me at least that things are working as expected on #2.

Had AutoPatcher install all updates that were listed in black. Main difference between the two systems is #2 has Office XP Pro and #1 has Office 2003 Pro - both updated with appropriate service packs.

After updates were installed I opened Explorer on both to compare scripts, RTIs, etc. Except for autopatcher_dotnet_ptg.script dated 15 Apr 08 on both all other scripts, on both system, are dated 02 Sep 08. So, no scripts newer than 02 Sep 08 - is that really the latest that I should have?

A quick check and the .RTIs on both looked identical.

So my conclusion is: on #1 when APUP checked what I had with what was the latest I needed nothing so beyond the fetching bar appearing nothing was required so no downlaod bar appeared; just a Finish button.

Suggestion: if APUP runs the scripts and compares and determines that nothing is required to be downloaded as the user has all the updates, rather than just the Finish button appearing maybe a message box could pop up saying "No updates required" or something similar so the user is aware APUP has really done its thing. :blink:

@DesertJerry

When you launch AutoPatcher (not APUP) and check the Release Info what does it show, this will let us know if you're out-of-date?
Launch AutoPatcher - click About - click Release info - if you have the same info as I listed in post #6 you should be good to go.
If one or more releases are Unofficial it will show False under Official.

Are you running the scripts locally, they should disappear with the temp_bin folder after the Finish tab in APUP is hit? Also,
how are you comparing rti files - the md5 for the latest Official release is the proper way to confirm the modules which is what
the script does, as well AutoPatcher?

Agreed, a good idea but the sad truth is that AutoPatcher and APUP will likely stay unchanged until a programmer offers help, but,
in terms of this particular point there are really 3 ways to check - if the lower progress bar in APUP shows no activity and there are
no APUP errors is one way. Also, the log file will show Files to be Downloaded: 0, lastly, use AutoPatcher like I mentioned above
to determine the signature date and status of the release.

no.
Name=AutoPatcher for Windows XP SP3 (x86) (enu and ptb. italian is from 23)
Date=20090927

Name=AutoPatcher per Windows 2000 SP4 (x86)
Date=20090630
DetectFile=2k_x86_ita.rti

Name=AutoPatcher Office 2007 SP2
Date=20090908
DetectFile=autopatcher:\office_2007_glb.rti

Name=DirectX Addon Pack
Date=20090909
DetectFile=directx.rti

an idea: if this is an webcache issue, the issue can be solved be reaching the releases.list file and refreshing it with any browser

> "No updates required"
good idea, but no developer to implement that

Started AutoPatcher, version 5.6.81

Comparison:
DotNet Addon Pack - 20090624 = same
Java Runtime (JRE) - 20090904 = same
Extras - 20090901 = same
DirectX Addon Pack - 20090909 = same
AutoPatcher for Office 2003-English - November 28, 2008 = same
Office Addon Pack - 200909027 = same
AutoPatcher Windows Vista - does not apply - I don't have Vista
Windows XP SP3 English - 20090927 = same

On my list:
AutoPatcher Engine - November 30, 2008 = True

I don't have a temp_bin folder.

I just compared the RTIs by opening Explorer in both systems and verifying dates and times. - did not check MD5s.

I mentioned the message box because the lower progress bar never appeared before the Finish button appeared, that why I commented on "No Downloads Required" message. Also, the log file did indicate "Files to be Downloaded:0" - see my log file posted above.

Got a copy of the Releases.list and will try again. No difference, reran APUP.

With a number of updates due out tomorrow, 13 October, I will wait a few days to give the folks here time to update things before I run APUP again.

I will be going on a 17-20 day driving trip from California to Florida and back starting 18 October - so if updates not available before I leave I can't verify things. :D

@DesertJerry

From the looks of things you are up-to-date but you have yet to state whether the releases are Official so I wont keep asking, and yes
you will likely come back from your road trip needing to update - this will determine if in fact you are having troubles downloading the
latest files.

DesertJerry said:

We all should have this line, this is the rti check related to autopatcher.exe and mine is true as well.

DesertJerry said:

The temp_bin folder gets created when you run apup.exe and gets deleted when you press the Finish tab. If I should ever need something
from temp_bin - maybe a script, I like to copy it out (not move) and then let APUP properly delete the folder and contents.

So, I would say if your releases show as Official (and they look to be up-to-date) you should be good until patch Tuesday.

All releases I indicated above were Official. Sorry I missed that.

I am sorry for late reply. I tested the Autopatcher to install some updates which i had not done before. While installing it wrote "Unknown Unofficial Release", but at release info it wrote true.

I don't understand because the files were from the server of autopatcher.

Lastly, it is still the same thing. I had installed autopatcher on two computers, both are having the same reactions. The script is downloaded but updates are not.

It still says finished after the script is downloaded. I think i found it, but i am not sure, i think it is due to the old releases that i already have / downloaded. I tested by downloading SP1 Addon pack for office 2007 and it works.

Thanks in advance and all those who contributed to the solution of desertjerry and my problem.

I decided to try something different to confirm to myself what was happening.

As I said above , I'm leaving here Sunday for a driving trip to Florida. I will be visiting friends I know are going to ask computer questions so I decided to downlaod everything AutoPatcher had to offer and burn a DVD with everything. This meant checking the boxes for all Office versions.

Well, that approach worked, downloads started and the progress bar showed a lot of Office 2007 stuff. So, I satisfied myself that if I run APUP, nothing appears as a download and the bottom progress bar does nothing then there were no updates to download - and the Finish button appears to confirm that. <_<

...About XP SP3 - Patch Tuesday October 2009

I would give Cristiano the weekend (he may be done sooner) to finish updating the scripts - it was a very busy Patch Tuesday so
I would only bother updating the scripts when you see the new dates - for XP SP3 (October xxxx) listed in APUP.

@K1NG_c0m0d0
We can help you get this sorted out but the first thing you need to do is tell us EXACTLY what releases you have in the SAME folder
you have XP SP3 in - the release Name - Date - Status, if you could hold off on adding any more releases to the SAME modules
folder we can figure out what you need to do to get everything Official. I'm looking for the information similar to what I listed in post #6.

I don't want to sound mean but this is very vague and when you refer to releases as it and old this doesn't help and only makes this thread grow
and grow, so please let us know exactly the information requested above and we should be able to better help you.

@DesertJerry
Have fun on your trip and be safe - we want to see you back here in a few weeks :)
