Win2003 Server SP2

ausi's Photo ausi 11 Oct 2009

I notice that the Win 2003 sp2 32bit in italian language is being updated, ie in apup OS list it says July 2009 beside the OS in list.

Can I update my English version of Win 2003 sp2 32bit, with the italian apup updates, then will my english OS be updated?

Or do I need to install a italian version of Win 2003 sp2? Is it easy to enable english language after italian install?

Eagerly awaiting your reply!

no, you can't apply an english OS with italian updates. most of they will not work and it probably will do an mess into your system. so, in order to work properly, that script will run only into italian versions of Win 2003 sp2 32bit

with an MUI pack, perhaps. but you need find that and ms us to hide that into their servers. still, only the interface will look in another language and everything inside will remain in the original language

an MUI pack changes the interface language only, not the internals. so, this doesn't prevent any damage. besides, autopatcher will load only the modules that applies to the main language installed, doesn't matter the MUI. the updates also check that and due that, most of them will not work

No volunteer for this release. :)

The script has to be tested, the best way to do this is to have the OS installed. So far, no one with Server 2003 SP2 has offered to take on this OS. There is a bit of tech know-how that is a must to do a script correctly.

I just happen to have a never used English copy of Server 2003 32bit, 5 CAL version. I could possibly knock together a box to install it on for testing Autopatcher if someone will do a script for it.

the problem is that the one that develops the script must have an edition of the target OS to test by himself. just imagine the situation: the release manager does something, the user that is testing states that doesn't work and what to do then?

Well I'm trying to patch a fresh installation of Windows 2003 R2 32bit.

I volunteer to do/test the script, lets do it.

If later the x64 bit needs to be test I can test that too, I'm also planing to work on Win server 2008 and Win server 2008 R2.

So drop me a line and lets get this project going.

I just install AutoPatcher and it only shows the Italian version of Windows server 2003.

I believe the reason is because that is the only one that is up to date. There is a script that is in English that is not listed, reason being that it is out of date(2009). Domenico is in charge of Italian stuff I think. While he does understand English he may not have the will to translate everything to both English and Italian. Its not just translating either... he has to find all the files to download for the English version. While its not a ton of work... its just more on top of the pile of work he already does.

If you say your willing to help do this... we can get you on the right road to making a list of changes. We can give you the older script and you can figure out what needs to be added/removed. Its easier then it sounds.

The real issue isn't release translation. I'm translating/making Windows Seven releases, Office 2007 release, Windows XP ENG release, and others.
The real issue is my free time! Posted Image
I cannot work on a new release and I'm thinking to suspend updates for Windows 2003 Italian release in next year. Windows 2003 is obsolete and Windows 2008 is installed on most servers.
