13 New updates - Not added to Auto-Patcher yet

As the title stats, today I turned on my computer on October 13, 2009 & there are 13 new updates. I went to download them with Auto-Patcher but not there. I even got some new errors.

They are not important as I could not reproduce them...

Here are the new updates, note may not apply to different versions on IE etc.

Relax a bit and give the AutoPatcher team time to update the scripts, you apparently are unaware TODAY I believe is...

Just making sure you guys are aware of these updates, you know... Some people pride themselves on having these things added shortly. Even less then an hour after being made available by Microsoft.

It's the kinda good publicity, "W0w, the auto-Patcher already has the new updates released for today." Awesome! keep up the good work.

But I know you guys are busy & you don't have to do anything for us, you don't have to answer our questions or even give away this amazing Utility for free. So thanks you guys.. Please just ignore the first two paragraphs.

BTW: the auto-patcher has a lot of other problems that I haven't even the time to report, ex; I downloaded the office 2003 updates & when I tried to install, I checked it but it doesn't let me click on next, wft. My bandwidth is really slow. Only 80kbps, so it's really bothersome to dedicate so much time to downloading updates then it not even working or causing a massive glitch.

Also, just wondering, when I run the auto-patcher just to install updates, at the top it says:

> Even less then an hour after being made available by Microsoft
yep, but that comes with an price: no social life or no time for your family. last month, i had to pay the price for the lack of time to my girlfriend: i'm single again. honestly, i'm working more than i'm able to. with help, we could do the job more quickly, but no, most of the time, we don't have any. when i first joined to autopatcher team, the idea was do an job that renato was trying to do, but due his lack of time, the release wasn't updated too often. now, we are just a few and i'm updating the enu release just because one thing: without it, this forum will die. but i don't have time for it. to my language, maybe, because i need autopatcher in my job, but still, i don't have time even for it and it will take time. so, i'm sorry my friend, but pride is a thing that you loose when you are trying to survive, by doing even more than you can, day by day

> I downloaded the office 2003
so far i know, we don't have anyone updating this one anymore. and i don't have any version of msoffice to test or even time to fix

> it's really bothersome to dedicate so much time to downloading updates then it not even working or causing a massive glitch.
you are right. but where are the people that is willing to work for free?

> Only 80kbps
mike was taking care of the win2k release a few months ago. at that time, he had dial-up. and mine isn't a lot faster than yours

> Also, just wondering, when I run the auto-patcher just to install updates, at the top it says:
autopatcher will show like that every time than an file is missing or was updated by ms. of course, it will show like that if you have files that should not be in autopatcher folder too

Oh, I understand now, so this is a dieing utility, I see. Didn't mean to push, I just thought that it was a little more active then that.

Yeah, I guess I just went a little over the top when the Auto-Patcher caused a fatal error twice & I had to re-install Windows XP on two clients computers.

Plus a client requested all the updates for Office 2003, I was downloading for him but that backfired.
Had to tell him there was a problem, anyway I used to do some programming a year back but I got lazy. This sounds like maybe a project I might want to help out with. Please tell me what programming languages are used for this app so I can brush up.

Also can you please tell me which releases are no longer maintained or known not to work so I can have that information on hand.

Also just curious, I don't want money. I will help out with this project for free but just curious. How are the donations going with this site? Because I have to wonder if it's pretty bad then everyone here would need 2nd real jobs. But if the donations were very nice then this could be a job. If enough money was made through donations then it would make sense to keep on top with new releases. I guess I just assumed that you guys were being lazy, L0l.

@852258

Your sarcasm is loud and clear so maybe Windows Update would better suit you. I wont bother wasting my time explaining the
issues with AutoPatcher / APUP because I've got the impression your a lurker looking for free tools and really could care
less of the effort put into the project.

I don't believe for a minute AutoPatcher caused a system to crash - I think you helped things along somehow - there are many
updates and tools within an AutoPatcher release but if you don't follow basic logic in order of installation you could bork
any install, any piece of software will do that if the user doesn't know what he/she is doing.

It is pretty easy to determine if a release is no longer supported, it will either not be an available release to download or
the date will be very old as with Office 2003 - November 28, 2008, but I use this release and have had zero issues with the
updates available within the release and I also know this release is obsolete -> this isn't the same as broken.

My personal opinion is thanks but no thanks, we need people who appreciate the efforts of the AutoPatcher / APUP project and
don't start off criticizing it - just my opinion of your recent posts - others who matter around here may disagree with me.

> it was a little more active then that.
it is. the main scrips are being updated, but not in the same day that are released. this month, by instance, we have about 16 updates to add. 14 for the main xp script (if you forget about the mrt) and 2 more for the .nets. to me, that means basically the double of that, because i'm also updating an script that i don't have any use for

> Auto-Patcher caused a fatal error twice
autopatcher doesn't cause any fatal error. the only one thing that autopatcher does is check if an update is applied or not and, according to the user selections, autopatcher creates the .bat files that runs the updates in silent mode. personally, i never had this sort of thing that you are having due autopatcher. but hardware faults (like defective memory) does that.

> Please tell me what programming languages are used for this app so I can brush up.
for the .exe himself, vb6. but none release maintainer is required to write any line of programming. release maintainers deal with notepad and plain text only, basically in a "follow the sample" mode. but that takes time to write and check

> Because I have to wonder if it's pretty bad then everyone here would need 2nd real jobs
well, we could be better paid in our real jobs, in fact. but the donations that we have paid for the host and bandwith only. none autopatcher team member wins any kind or amount of money from this project. at least, i'm working with this project since i don't remember anymore and i never win even 1 cent. and honestly, i don't wanna any. as for the 2 jobs issue, i don't know if you are aware of, but not everybody born rich. my parents was teachers and, in in this country, this doesn't make you rich in any way. so far i remember, i left my parents home when i had about 17 years old and, to have everything that i have today i had to work hard. so far, i have my own home (ok, i still have 12 years more paying for it, but it's mine), etc etc etc. as for home, i intent to buy another one after pay for this first one. i don't know another way to do that than working. as for the other team members, they have their own problems to deal with and, if they wish have 2 jobs, good for them.

i'm a fool because i work for free in here? maybe. but anything that helps in my sleep or even rip off an nail from my coffin is good enough for me.

> if the donations were very nice then this could be a job
we aren't paid. so, this isn't a real job and it never had this intention. we work for free in here. some of us also work for free in more projects too. in my country, we have an project called "SOS Mata Atlântica", that aims reforest the Atlantic Sea side of our contry. i also work for free in that. no, better saying, i pay to work in that, because from times to times, i take from my pocket to help that project too. so far, i have about 1987 trees with my name on it. and yes, that helps on my sleep and also in my breath. the project, as in here, is open to anyone.

> I guess I just assumed that you guys were being lazy
what a shame... next time, learn about the project or at least try work for free sometimes. even Bill Gates does that. and, according to him, this makes feel good. i fully agree with him. do you?

Ehh, my sarcasm.

yea, I do get carried away with that sometimes. I wont make an excuse. I apologies for that, I'm sorry.
As for that, I guess it depends on my mood. When I come back from my Kung- Fu training at night I have a calm mind. I speak slow with little emotion & a lot of sense. On days I stay home & eat candy & play on the computer I am, really excited & I express myself with a bit more sarcasm then usual. In the morning if I do get on the computer so early then I suppose I have quite a bit more enthusiasm less sarcasm & my sense varies but I am serious about helping out with this project. If I'm not wanted that's okay, I will try & be patent to earn some trust but I can't hold back my nature of being direct. I will apologies though for anyone & everyone who I've offended. I'm sorry. I usually come off very friendly online, I am a member of many other forums & am well liked. But due to school I have not had some to be very active on many bored s. I do regret.

Please don't say; no, now, it will take me a few weeks to get familiar with Visual Basic again. Maybe a month & a little. Thank you for taking the time to give me some information on the auto-patcher. Thank you Cristiano and gUiTaR_mIkE, I really appreciate both of your comments and insight.

gUiTaR_mIkE, I will try my hardest to get past my sarcasm in all seriousness. I will show you how much I am committed.
The auto-patcher is no joke to me, I worked on another project of my own in the past but they were too big of a scale for me to handle on my own. I tried writing my own anti-virus software, I also had ambitions on creating a perfect Operating System. Free of viruses, stable. Simple media playback. I was a little crazy, thinking too far ahead with 256-bit architecture. Completely slipped my mind that it wouldn't be able to run on any hardware until probably the year 2080, L0l. I never started writing it though. I did do a lot of research into how to make my OS bootable & I was also looking into rewriting my computers drivers to run on my OS. But that was more in dream stage.

So please, I'm just looking for a mid-sized project to get me practicing again.

@852258

You don't have to apologize quite like this, you spoke your mind (I can appreciate that), well so did I,
and so we move on. My main point was simply that it may not seem like much but a lot of work goes into
keeping the scripts up-to-date and rather than criticize - saying nothing is always appreciated, of course
unless there is a legitimate bug to report.

...about the scripts
We can only update scripts for operating systems we have, which includes the 64-bit versions as well. We
must have tried for months to get updates for the releases that are now gone (all x64, 2000, some Office)
and so on. There were many initial offers but once the work load became apparent the offers vanished - what
can a person do at this point? We are all thankful for the years (yes, I said years) that the former release
maintainers offered their support but they have families and other obligations so they had to resign, all I
can say is thank you for the work you did. I would really consider the effort needed to update the software
before you go getting all excited about it, and getting us sidetracked again but if the powers that be think
you are serious I'm sure they will follow up.

Kung Fu - Excellent! I spent a long time training in Chinese/Hawaiian Kempo, American Kenpo, and some time in

BTW, if you need a haircut I need some practice with my swords :D

Cool, I'm glad we don't have to be serious all the time.

I use this utility all the time & I've had a lot of errors, I wouldn't make this up.

Please see both screen shots in this thread; http://www.autopatch...be-my-own-falt/
After I got this error, it seems that IE6 was damaged & I had to re-install XP.

The one that I got the blue screen of death was after that on a clients computer. He was in a hurry so I gave the CD to him with the auto-patcher & he calls me the next day & tells me his computer only boots into a blue screen of death.
He told me all he did was ran the auto-patcher from the CD & went to bed. When he got up, the computer would only as I've said "boot into a blue screen of death."
Anyway, I'm not trying to lay blame or prove a point. Well kinda a point that I didn't make this up but if I posted every error report. Well, it just takes a lot of time.

Anyway, you don't have to respond this this post. It's only a reply, I just got a book on vb6. It will take me a couple of days to read through it then I will start playing around with some code..

BTW: in response to a few posts ago, I just wanted to say. I didn't assume anyone was rich. I'm not even close to being rich either. I can't even afford rent, I'm currently living at my parents house. What a pain I gotta tell you. I love my parents to death but sometimes it feels like I rather be homeless. Hopefully after I finish school I will find a high paying job & be able to move out one day. That's one of my dreams. But I think I will always love computers & always use them as there are endless things you can do with a computer.

well, those yikies us to be related to an faulty detection. we found one issue, regarding .net 4 and some modules that have some .net dependency. in order to bypass the issue, that dependency was removed from the modules, but the users that have those old modules may have some issues. anyway, your log didn't showed any .net 4, so... but of course, pinpoint the exact error can be a pain... that kb that was in your log at that time is already fixed. anyway, that module wasn't related to your crash. maybe one of the issues that msie has when installing, i don't know for sure. at this point, an good idea is take the install logs and check for the latest one, that will have the answer for the issue

oh well, back to work... another machine to fix...

I personally don't think this kind of hands off approach is good - for this very reason, I'm going to bet your friend
left everything checked for install - hit the Next button and was off to bed, Bad Idea! I think a smarter
approach is to install updates a few at a time from a class at a time - Critical, Components, Recommended etc - JMO :)

Cristiano has already pointed out that there were a few detection / dependency issues that have been addressed but it can be
difficult to track them down when the user was attempting to install 30 or 40 updates along with a few components and IE8 all
at the same time when the errors occurred.

Your right, I don't know what he installed. But those two problems are unrelated because for the 2nd one I already updated the auto-patcher. I told him it doesn't matter what you install. Was I wrong? I think not. It's never been a problem for me. I told him the defaults are already checked so just hit next. BTW: this wasn't a friend, it was one of my computer clients, he had to come back the next day & I had to re-install again. I did try to boot into safe mode to run a restore but it didn't work.

Here is my complete list of what I install
on first run I install everything available except IE7, IE8, WMP11, Imaging Mastering API v2.0, Microsoft Base Smart Card etc, Microsoft Journal Viewer, User Profile Hive Cleanup, Windows Defender, Windows Messenger, Group Policy Preferences, Windows Search(Note: I've tested this & it doesn't work at all. L0l.), Windows PowerShell

On 2nd run I install everything else, except those things listed above. Also I use a separate installer to install WMP10. I downloaded it myself. It should really be added to the auto-patcher. I only use WMP10 for myself & clients because it uses less RAM then the newer one.
It's kinda funny because the auto-patcher has updates for WMP10 but only offers to install WMP11. I think it should be an option like IE7, & IE8 are. thanks

> I told him it doesn't matter what you install. Was I wrong?
yes and no. yes, for the updates from ms. no for the tweaks. also, i only run autopatcher twice. in the first wave, i install almost everything, except the updates for ie6, 7 and some other garbage. at the second wave, i only install the remain ones.

> Microsoft Journal Viewer, Windows Defender, Windows Search
i don't install any of those. the windows search was working when i've tested, but this one did an slow down in the machines that i've tried and i didn't installed it anymore. if i'm not mistaken, this one requires that the indexing service be activated to work properly

> WMP10
i don't install anything obsolete, like this one

> I only use WMP10 for myself & clients because it uses less RAM then the newer one
some internet radios from here doesn't work without wmp11. but most people around here runs winamp instead this one. in fact, i don't know why wmp10 updates are around yet.

sorry. i have to go now
