maybe. but very often, the detections for an RC doesn't match with the final version. besides, only Antonis has the full code for apup and he doesn't reply any emails about the source for autopatcher, to allow us update the code for autopatcher.exe by ourselves. but we have a few tricks in our hands and we was able to retrieve a good deal of the code. the sad part is that the code isn't full and, between that code and an workable code, there's a lot of things to do. basically, we will be forced to reinvent the wheel. but that can be done and we already are working on it. but that is only one part of the deal. first, we need have an autopatcher.exe working with seven, that isn't the case right now. after that, we need build the scripts from scratch and also take the detections and the updates. i do have one of the rcs, but the updates for the rcs are the same for the final version? i'm not so sure. so, in order to test, we need an final version of seven and that isn't the case right now. but as i said, we are working on it and we will have an version for seven, but it may take some time, because there's a lot of things to be done, from scratch, all again. and yes, the wheel will be reinvented. but that can be done and we will not stop because that. some delay, maybe. but not stop

Good to hear your still continuing the autopatcher to include win7. As I might go win7 if my installation goes well and all the reviews I see so far is above board unlike vista. But hopefully this O/S gives a better user computing experience. Just have a question how does Autopatcher compare to Belarc Advisor? I know both are free and but Belarc gives a report of what your missing but it doesn't download but gives your links to go and download that specific file to download. And it does have a different interface as it give a IE report windows showing what it find missing rather then downloading the updates.

if i'm not mistaken, belarc includes updates updates that you need request. well, as ms said to us already, we can't include those kind of updates. and the reason is very simple: we can't host them. and the link that ms provides when you request an non-public update changes in a 24h basis and is also encripted, with an password that changes every day. so, we can't include those. the good thing is that the non-public updates may be unstable

but good news, Antonis said that will share the code for autopatcher.exe. than, the work can be done more easily

Hi Cristiano,

Would this mean that AutoPatcher will become an open source project or that the code will still be retained by the AP team for their use only?

I hope that the former is a possibility although I can forsee issues if it does become open source

Kind Regards

Simon

by me, it could be. but as you, i see some problems with that if the project remain active. but certain things are happening already. 2 developers has joined the team (please check your pms) and are doing a lot of improvements to apup. so, there's hope again :)

Darn those M$ people....hmm... but widowsupdate does work and I do use it to download the needed updates for the time being. I'll have to live with winupdate for now.....

if and when you get a working build on windows 7 I'm happy to test.

I am no programmer, but work as an experienced technician and can usually see what's going on.

i also have access to windows 7 enterprise and vmware workstation at home, so on my vertex ssd can bring up a new install in under 10 mins! with that and snap-shotting the virtual I can run multiple tests as needed.

keep up the good work,

Dan Stockwell

it's going well. we have found an possible issue regarding "are you sure that have downloaded the right release?", but it's being tracked (it's an software issue). also, we know that apup will require an update to work properly with seven and also we are already adapting the current modules to work with seven. this part is kinda tricky, because more team members should have seven already. i should have already an new machine, but i'm facing some issues with my lack of sleep and i'm focusing more on fix that issue (at least i know now the cause of it and it can be fixed). so, i don't have an machine running seven yet to help with that and domenico is doing the hard part...

but the things are going well and those issues was expected. at least, this time a few more guys are helping on track issues (and, more important: they are reporting)
