Wondering what the best practice is for Autopatcher with various versions of Windows. Was planning on checking every box, downloading everything and being set, but noticed that Vista SP2 is to be kept separate and that got me wondering if there is an advantage to keeping autopatcher in different folders..ie..one separate folder for each version of Windows then one folder containing add-ins, office updates, etc.

Other than having to update each separately, are there any pros or cons? How do you manage your update repository?

that's because the sp2 version removes all the updates related to the sp1 script. then, if you chooses sp1 and sp2, you will do an big mess and will waste your download and time

but there's no problem if you keep java, direct x, extras and .net mixed with the xp script or with vista. even the vista script wasn't supposed to damage the xp script. but it's an good idea keep those in separated folders.

Seems like if I had separate XP and Vista folders then the java, DX, .net, etc would be taking up double the disk space since I'd want them available from either OS. Any pros or cons to having an XP folder, a Vista folder, and an 'Other' folder? Then just run the OS updates first and the 'Other' stuff last?

These are my opinions, do what you will with them

I prefer to keep most releases setup something like this - btw Cristiano pretty much summed it up.

...Alone: XP.SP3, Vista.SP2, 2K.SP4
...Combined: One(1) Office release and the Office Addons ie: Office 2007 or Office 2003 + Office Addons + the service pack if available.
...Combined: DirectX, DotNet, Java, Extras, Adobe Reader - you might get by adding these to your 1 OS if you will only have 1 OS release.

Note: Don't make the mistake of putting 2 releases of the same name but different service pack level in the same folder say, Vista SP1 and
Vista SP2 - we made that mistake with XP SP2 and the release of SP3

You might think it is a little bit of a pain keeping track but it is far worse if you have everything in 1 \modules folder and you should need to track
an error - XP SP3 is 549 files, add 2 more OSs, an Office release and the Addons - good luck and have fun if something isn't right and you should
have to hunt it down, what is that maybe 1500 files now!!!

Here's an old pic of how I do it but the process really is the same (just more shortcuts).

If you look at the bottom right pane you will notice the folders, each is a fully independent AutoPatcher release and if I need one or more I
just highlight the folder(s) of the release I want and "Copy" them over to the destination. Each folder contains both autopatcher.exe and
apup.exe and are ready to go. If it seems a bit confusing to update each release read the bit I wrote, it really is quite easy.
