ok, just an head's up: after a dozen of changes into several scripts, the issue regarding apup 1.1 re-downloading several files was decreased a lot. now, the re-downloaded files shall be less than 1MB or, for the worst case (the extras package), something about 325K only. this issue is taking longer than expected to fix because one major issue: this isn't happening to everybody and problems that can't be reproduced by everybody are kinda tricky to track and fix. but at least now this problem was decreased a lot and even those that has dial-up may not have any major problems to re-download 325K, if they have this issue.

the removed files in the extras package was some third-party tools that aren't updated in about 2-3 years and booth synctoys, that always can be manually downloaded by those that require it

again, sorry for the trouble

Discovered this update today and decided to check it out. I was surprised when it started downloading 58.53 MB of files but allowed it to do its work as I knew certain things were missing from my files. As usual I ran a few times to ensure everything came down - on the second try it only downloaded 2.41 MB and no error message was given. On the third try it again downloaded 2.41 MB of stuff so this is where they cycling remains. Attached file to help you investigate.

Finally, the remember selections option is sweet. Remember talking about this a while back and I'm thankful that you guys managed to get it in.

sorry for the trouble, my friend, but your 2.41 MB is related to an minor bug that we are still investigating. sadly, it was discovered too late, but it will be fixed. seems that you have reached the worst case scenario to download 2.41 MB again. that will not damage your files, don't worry. it is just an waste of download, because apup will re-download the files that has to be extracted to work. just wait until it ends and everything will be fine

this will be fixed soon

I have an AutoPatcher directory for Windows XP SP3 only.

It was created with AP 1.05 in December 2008

It was updated today with AP 1.1

Many obsolete files were not deleted

This is not a major issue for me. I just created and downloaded a new directory from scratch. However, if you would like further details on the problem, I can provide it. I still have a before and after versions illustrating the problem (and could rerun the update with logging if desired).

for sure. the scripts are being cleaned every 3-4 months, to save bandwith in our server. we knew that this could happen, but there's another issue with comes with an uncleaned script: the log. it becomes huge and almost impossible to read and find the cause for any issue that the user has. also, an huge log doesn't fit in the maximum post size in the board. so, we regret to inform, but after some time, we are forced to clean the script :(

also, the bug that makes apup 1.1 re-download all the compressed files all times that you run it was tracked and we are already beta testing it. so far, no issue at all :)

My friends, i'm proud to announce that reached one major milestone about AutoPatcher Updater: our download mechanism was completely replaced by cURL. This new engine allow us deal with an ancient flaw: the ability to deal with proxies.
Congratulations and thank you to the Team for an excellent piece of software. I’ve just updated to v1.1 and it ran flawlessly (XP SP3 & Office2003). With the previous versions I was plagued with ‘ctlwinsckdownloader component failure’ errors, a problem I think might have been due to my ISP’s use of proxy servers, and had to manually download patches using the apup log but hopefully those errors will now be no more. Great work guys - your efforts are MUCH appreciated!!!

:) but just keep in mind that our developers are still fixing a few things. the issue that is doing apup 1.1 re-download all the compressed modules is already fixed in the new beta for apup 1.2, but we also found the reason for an old bug, that is already tracked and almost fixed. until that, sorry, but apup 1.1 will re-download the compressed modules. at least, it's just an small download

just an heads-up: apup 1.2 is ready and will go public in a few days. mostly, the changes made are bugfixes, like the fix for the re-download of the compressed modules all times that you run apup 1.1 and also was fixed an old problem with apup: invalid property value in prjUpdater.mdlDownloader.processDownloadQueue (i'm sure that a of users already saw this). all the changes done to apup 1.1 are present, like the ability to run apup behind an proxy, etc. so, there's someone in here that wishes to try it before this version go public? if there's someone, please let an message in this topic that you will receive an link to download this new version

I'm wondering why after updating to v1.1 in a new directory, I'm still unable to get AutoPatcher to complete.

APUP is run as administrator on Windows Server 2008 on the actual Administrator account login.

I keep getting the same error :

Verification Failed. One or more files have failed verification. Please re-run AutoPatcher Updater. If this problem persists, please report to the forums at AutoPatcher.com. I click OK, then Exit, and get :

apengine_rti_0711.7z - permission denied in prjUpdater.frmMain.Form_Unload at line 106

Being Administrator, I have full permissions to the directory. And as I said - I created the directory just today when I discovered there was an update to v1.1. Please find the log attached.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ken

well, you are doing the worst thing possible: mix all releases into the same folder. there's an warning for win2k (without maintenance) that breaks several things in other scripts. i remember that there's an issue regarding run apup from an server, but i don't remember right now the reason. i just know that is something related to the environtment. sadly, my memory is becoming a problem since some time ago (due an insomnia issue) and i don't remember the cure for this issue. James knows that, but he is away due issues with his job. so, right now, just one advise: please try run apup from an station running vista/xp/2k (we aren't sure about the usage of apup under seven)

hi,

i would be happy to test a 1.2 build, let me know what combinations you want to try. - clean from scratch and or updating a folder already in existence.

in the past I used the older version of apup to download windows xp and office 2003 as clean directory structures at home, compressed them into self extracting exe's with 7z and kept them on the network at work and a pen drive for transport. once 400mb file copies much quicker on pen sticks and onto laptops etc. then it can be extracted to desktop and run from there.

with the updates now working through a proxy this has made it much easier to update where I work in a uk 6th form education site with 500+ pc's. We run a smooth wall Linux based proxy/firewall through a BT 20mb business adsl 2

at home I have had no perceived problems downloading the patches on my windows 7 x64 os for windows xp or vista.
