The SP3 RC1 can be downloaded from: http://www.betanews.com/ - just scroll down to find it - 338Mb file

Also, Office 2007 SP1 at same site - 225Mb file.

I'm hopingn to have Office SP1 up today or tomorrow. RC1 though won't be distributed through AP. Can't wait for the final!!

I have two systems: #1 - XP Pro w/SP2 and all updates; #2 - XP Home w/SP2 and all updates.

Opted to install XP SP3 RC1 on #2.

Started SP3 ok but after about 20 minutes nothing appeared to be happening, horizontal bar stopped (don't remember what was being done).

Waited 30 minutes more then cancelled update.

Booted into Safe Mode, logged in as Administrator, and started SP3 update again. This time it went all the way through and updated whatever it was supposed to.

Rebooted and XP Home started normally, desktop appeared to be as before; My Computer > Properties showed Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3, v.3244.

Will not ry SP3 on Pro system until final is released.

I'm guessing that installing to a Home system will require everyone to boot into Safe Mode and log-in as Administrator (unless others refute this).

Have not checked everyhting for anomolies on #2 but figured I'd pass this info on first.

I tried it on my XP Home XP2 clean install test machine (it has been patched with AP but has no other programs on it) and it gave me a BSOD. I'm waiting until it's a final version, and then I'm waiting another month or two. In other news, over 50% of my home computers now run only Linux, no stupid Windows!

After sending above I opted to run APUP then Autopatcher.

APUP downloaded updates.

AutoPatcher changed quite a bit.

Critical Updates only listed three items, not the long list seen on my #1 (Pro) system.

Recommended Updates listed five items, again not the long list from #1.

Updated Components listed .NET Framework with four items and five other items.

Windows Genuine Advantage had nothing listed.

Office Addons not applicable - Office not installed on this system.

Windows Addons appeared to have the same items on both systems.

Registry Tweaks appeared similar.

@DesertJerry, AutoPatcher will only display updates which are known to be compatible with the OS that you are running. Because SP3 should contain all hotfixes released after SP2, those hotfixes are technically not compatible with SP3. Once SP3 has a final version, you will see SP3 hotfixes comming out just like the SP2 ones are now.

No need to help yourself from dubious sources for Office 2007 SP1 -- it's available on general release from Microsoft right now -- to follow on WU in about 20 - 30 days time.
