Windows 7 - help needed with detection

Locked

Cristiano's Photo Cristiano 03 Feb 2010

Dear users:

since some time ago, we are lacking support for Windows 7. this lack of support is happening due several reasons. some, we was able to fix, but other ones we can fix just now. for that, we need you. right now, our major concern is Windows 7 support. we don't have all versions of this one and also we can't check for all the proper detections alone. so, we need ask for your help. so, those that are willing to help us in a little degree, please do the download of this little tool and run it in your machine (if possible, an windows 7 machine).

the tool will not do any change into your computer, it will only return an report like this one:
Posted Image

please note that the tool shall detect:
- the OS that is running;
- service pack level;
- build;
- architecture (x86 or x64)

the tool will not send any report over the internet. so, the information about the result must be done by the user. the user don't need post any image (but images are welcome), just text infos about the detections are enough

thanks for any help

Windows Media Center is included in Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate editions. (Windows 7 Inside Out, page 463).

A Google or Bing search on SM-MEDIACENTER gave me more referneces to Windows XP Media Center Edition than to Windows 7 - so I'm not sure what's really goin gon here. Windows 7 Resource Kit had no mention. :blink:

Booted into Win7 64-bit to see what Media Center is/was about. It appeared to be designed to mainly connect the computer to a TV, play music, videos, movies, record videos, etc. Since I have no interest in watching TV on a computer monitor or connecting my computer through a wall to my TV I did not complete the setup process.

Windows 7 Inside Out has a chapter on Media Center but states a book of 1,000 pages may not cover all the features. (Terrible thought as far as I'm concerned) The book mentioned two web sites for more info: thegreenbutton.com and thedigitallifestyle.com - will have to check them later though, right now, I doubt I would find much use for Media Center.

No mention made of SM-MEDIACENTER - maybe it just appears because Media Center comes with all the versions I mentioned earlier.

exactly! Microsoft has a bug concerning this detection...
because: "Media Center comes with all the versions" for WinVista & 7.
But for vista's versions detection is working ONLY if a real hardware was pluged in, but all is otherwise in Win7: this detection give this wrong result in any case
So - to all of our helpers:
pls, do not pay attention on this SM_MEDIACENTER BUT pls, do report about it.

guys! please not only copy-paste here msg from tool's form - but also - tell here - is it the same OS which you have installed on your machines?
Does tool correctly "guess" your OS's version?

a few more test must be done before that, my friend. our test must cover all seven versions: starter, home basic, home premium, etc. but i've managed to get the install media for all seven versions. so, i will install one by one just to test the detections. so far, seems to be missing just a few versions. but i can't test with x64. at least, an clean install seems to be really faster and also there's the grace time to help

the issue will be time to do that
