So I ran apup and downloaded all updates available for vista sp2 including addons, critical, recommended and optional and was doing trial runs to see how long the updates take and how many updates ar eleft after a few reboots and noticed something odd...no where in any of the lists is the option to install internet explorer 8...it simply isnt there.

Redownloaded...same thing.

So my question is...where is it?

That is very interesting, probably just a simple oversight and I'm sure it will be fixed. I believe IE8 is the default
in Windows 7, and wasn't around when Vista SP2 was launched - no?

Sorry, I had to write something - I couldn't leave my post count at 666

IE8 has been out for a while and is an "update"...its included in the autopatcher for xp sp3 so i'm assuming that it should be in vista sp2 aswell.

Hi,
I have not included IE8 in Windows Vista SP2 release because this software isn't multilanguage.
MS has released only localized versions.

I could include major language (English, Italian, German, Brazilian, etc.) but this modification will increase release weight.

So... what do you think about?!?

What about having the english version OR multilingual as an option when the initial apup is done. myself personally I only need english, but others may want multilingual. My 4gb flash drive only has about 60mb of free space after all my programs and autopatcher so just the english would fit and any additional updates for ie8.

Thanks

the problem is more complicated than seems to be... let me explain: there's not an international version of msie8. in order to keep ie8 and be fair with the non-english users (none of the current release managers speak english as native language), at least the more spoken languages should be present. so, an english user could download chinease, spanish, italian, portugal portuguese, brazilian portuguese, german, dutch, russian etc and the english version. this could increase the download size a lot and for sure english users require just the english version, as the italian users require just the italian version. by other hand, do an update for each of those versions, an rti file and an module for each version of msie is required. of course, also an script. and this is unpractical to keep

by the way: my flash drive has about 8GB and has only the xp ptb script and a lot of drivers (only drivers from motherboards, vga cards, etc) and i'm looking for an bigger one, because this one is already too small...

of course, we could have specific languages for each OS, but right now, there's just a few release managers. but could be great an english user having an script done by an english releaser manager, as is great to an italian user have an script done by an italian release manager, even if this translator just take an foreign module as template. but no, sadly, there's just a few working on it...

So then no IE8 is going to be released with autopatcher? If that is the case then I will just auto-install it using runonce or in one of my scripts. Question; if IE8 WAS already installed, are the updates for it included in autopatcher?

thanks

right-click the link - or open it however you want and search the Vista SP2 script from your browser, It does look as if there are a number of IE8 files. :)
