Hi,

I want to help you to traduct this program in french.

I'm a system administrator, and I can help you.
I can traduct this program and test it with : Windows 2000 / XP / 7 (french versions).

I'm searching a program wich can download Windows patchs, which support Windows 7 with command line options : AutoPatcher is actually the only one I found.
I'm actually creating a website about computer's security, in french. I want to use AutoPatcher and other tools with some scripts, to help peoples wich visiting my website.
So, I want to create a official mirror of AutoPatcher (something with rsync), can I do that too ?

How can I help ?

Admins, you can contact me by PM, give me your mail :)

first of all, thanks for your interest on helping us. now, a few considerations: actually, vista and seven are multilanguage (they finally have learned that is far more easy do an translation from the interface only than dll by dll). due that, if there's one script for vista or for seven, this one will work for all languages. so, translations are required for 2k and xp only.

> I want to create a official mirror of AutoPatcher
that isn't really required, because we only host the .apm files, not the updates himself. due that, the bandwith usage is minimum.

but translate an 2k/xp script may take some time and will require certain skills, like ability to work with md5 tools and a good reading of this guide. for an update list, in old times we had translation packs, that was one already existent script without the updates. issue: today we know that a lot of files are shared. those are pointed in the scripts. they are all those that doesn't have an description of the language, like ITA, PTB, ENU. so, those must stay untouched

so please, any doubts, just reply :D

Good to know about Vista and Seven ! Thanks for the tips !

I know that Win2k is soon unsupported by Microsoft, and the end of support for Windows XP is in 2014 (not really soon, but it's coming).
Can I help to translate apup.exe ?
1/ Can I translate the interface of apup.exe ? (yes, autopatcher.exe is already in french, good work ;) )

I know that you only distribute autopatcher's files, not windows updates files. That's why I want to "rsync" this url: http://www.autopatcher.com/apengine/ to my server, to create a mirror.
2/ Can I do that ?

Note : I want to use autopatcher with my future website which speak about computers security. I want to wrote my own "anti-malware/virus toolkit" / "security check" in future (It's a long time self made project... if I have time : First I'll create a command line script, after something in C++).
3/ Using autopatcher with my program (send some command line arguments to it), it's possible ? Can you let me that ? Some copyright restrictions about AutoPatcher ? (In my "about" box, I'll write that I use autopatcher, of course!)

No problem, as I say, I'm working as system administrator.

4/ Why you don't use some script, like "iMacros" for firefox (+ IETabs ?), and some AutoIt script, to do that work and md5 check ?
Hope this tips can help ;)

> Can I help to translate apup.exe ?
it's one idea. if you can, please do an list of the things that are in english and the proper translation. i can't promise any change so soon, because it's up to the developers, but at least we will have an translation done :)

> 2/ Can I do that ?
yes, you can

3/ Using autopatcher with my program (send some command line arguments to it), it's possible ?
autopatcher has support for some command lines, but it's very restrictive.

> Some copyright restrictions about AutoPatcher ?
autopatcher is freeware. so, you can add it in the way that you wish, just mention it in about that will be good enough

> 4/ Why you don't use some script, like "iMacros"
to be honest, i have no idea about what you are talking about

sorry my rush, but we are having an electrical storm in here. so, unplug everything...

Electrical storm ? I hope your computer is still alive ;)

I don't read all your doc's, but I see that you search some URL and informations about Microsoft's patchs.

Here are some tools to help you :

Whatever you do with Firefox, iMacros can automate it. Look here : http://www.iopus.com/imacros/firefox/

AutoIt v3 is a freeware BASIC-like scripting language designed for automating the Windows GUI and general scripting. It uses a combination of simulated keystrokes, mouse movement and window/control manipulation in order to automate tasks in a way not possible or reliable with other languages (e.g. VBScript and SendKeys). AutoIt is also very small, self-contained and will run on all versions of Windows out-of-the-box with no annoying "runtimes" required!

AutoIt was initially designed for PC "roll out" situations to reliably automate and configure thousands of PCs. Over time it has become a powerful language that supports complex expressions, user functions, loops and everything else that veteran scripters would expect.

See here : http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/

well, basically it was an storm with a lot of lightnings. in here, we us to call it of electrical storm, but i'm not sure if this is the right term in english (to my luck, Brazil is the world champion in lightnings). a few weeks ago, i've forgot to unplug an filter (that is required in order to DSL connections work in here) and i was forced to replace it (burned... but oh well, it was designed to do that in power surges). as an security measure, i us to let everything unplugged during that kind of storm. so far, no big issues at all, but one already has burned an motherboard that i had (about 4-5 years ago). oh yes, another thing that help with it is the lack of protection. in Brazil, there's an strong market that sells an useless thing (that they call of "estabilizadores" - an closer translation is something that tries keep the power stable, by increasing or decreasing it 5% after the issue happen. and no, this has nothing to do with power surge protectors or UPS modules). and yes, that device is useless, but that market sells the idea that is required. some companies even sell the idea that you will loose any warranty if your computer doesn't have that device. personally, my home-made power surge protector is far better than that garbage, but as you know, nothing fully protect you from lightnings. oh yes, my Frankenstein computer is still working (i've made one from spare parts after my old one die a few weeks ago. and no, the replacement didn't arrived yet)

about AutoIt, it seems interesting. i will take a look on it, thanks

Actually I have been thinking about the same thing for a while.
I'm really tired of downloading the updates on the French Windows XP's I maintain.

The big problem is the lack of free time to help out.
On the other side, if I help out, I might win a lot of time ...
If I'm not the only one helping out the whole process might be faster :)

As indicated I'm going to read the post.
