Hi, I was trying to update my system cuz I think I have a virus that is blocking my ability to update from the microsoft site. I read somewhere to try autopatcher to get the job done, and they said it would work. I downloaded it, and when I ran the program I got the following error log. It told me to let autopatcher know, and I'm guessing they mean through the forums.
Attempting to initialize common controls.
Accessing filesystem...
AutoPatcher 5.6 loaded the filesystem.

most of the times, when an system is infected by an virus, it locks the urls that point to the fixes to the vulnerabilities that allow the virus work. due that, it's very likely that your apup log (that can be generated by hitting that "hit this to generate...") will state something about be unable to reach those urls. that can be easily checked, by trying reach any of those updates with an web browser. as an sample, please try kb890830-v3.8.exe. if you are unable to reach it with an browser, then apup also is. also, may be interesting check this topic and follow at least a few of those online scanners.
given that, you have to clean your system before run apup/autopatcher.
by the way: most of the modules doesn't cover media center
