It looks like in an attempt to clean up WMP 11 there may be a command that is deleting (and re downloading) WMP 10 as well...This is my guess,

PreAction=rmdir /S /Q "autopatcher:\modules\NonCritical\__WMP_noncritical"

It will be corrected soon

fixed. the idea was remove the wmp11 folder, but i probably forgot that only the wmp11 folder should be removed... sorry

The 'edit' worked this time, these are the 'deletes' running the latest XP_SP3 script... WMP10 'noncritical' is left alone.

The only updates downloaded should be a new .rti and .md5.

Unless the previous XP_SP3 script was ran and deleted WMP10 'noncritical' updates - they will also download (again) one last time

I only have WMP11 installed for XP-SP3 and AP still shows a single checkbox without a (+) for expanding

WMP - Recommended updates

Since there are no recommended updates for WMP11, shouldn't that entry only show if AP detects WMP10 on the target system?

the new parent module that will fix this issue is done, but i'm the guy that is re-assigned every single time after i finish an job that someone did wrong and, due that, i was re-assigned again, to the most problematic session of the government that i know (yes, i work for the government). as is an new task, i have to learn it, figure the critical points, etc. i also us to keep thinking about things that i don't know for sure for some time, even after my job. so, so, right now, i'm with little free time, but this issue will be solved in a few days. then, the new parent module for this one will be released and also an new module for the wmp11 (that has to be updated, because right now, it's detecting as installed even if the user has the old version, without any update). so please, be patient

No problem Cristiano. I fully understand that your real job has priority and what you are doing for AP and APup is only on a voluntary basis. I was only pointing out something that I observed which might cause some confusion and to make you aware of the situation.

I used Autopatcher again for only the second time after several months of being nagged to install updates, and the updates seem to be OK (no nagging about Updates Available). However, this most recent exercise has had some irritating consequences:

1. Bootup and shutdown can be achieved now ONLY via a popup Windows XP Professional screen. The bootup one is annoying because it prompts for a password which I don't use - but I still have to click on the box to continue booting which is annoying because I usually leave the PC to contunue startup loading while I'm doing something else.

2. The update also deleted the Quick Launch area but I quickly reinstated that. Not so the size of the icons in the Quick Launch area - and I haven't yet been able to control the size of those without affecting the size of the Desktop icons.

Can anyone help with either problem? As you can see my OS Is Win XP Pro with SP3.

Thanks ViroMan for that quick response - and the links, both of which appear to work. My Quick Launch icons are now back to the original (small) size; the Logon/Logoff screens I've yet to prove when I switch off and reboot. However, this still leaves the question: why did Autopatcher change my settings when it didn't do it the first time I ran it a few months ago?

autopatcher is not the culprit here, it was one of the microsoft updates that did that. I know that once you install SP2 the login needing a password starts up and there are like 3 other updates that do that too. I have no idea about the quick launch thing though. Autopatcher merely downloads updates from Microsoft and applies them. Autopatcher does not change anything in the system other then download(actualy APUP does this) and run system updates that are deemed critical,important, or security.

So, I was wondering if your logoff problem was solved. Ohh you wanted small quick launch icons, ohh good... I thought you wanted large icons(they look ugly).
