Other than the files that come with the download what libraries does the APUP program use (ive hit the vbrun something or other file)
With the update tool as it is figuring out how to get it running under Wine would be a stunner since at that point you could build your AP Hive drop it to a DVD and then run your updates on a target system never having the files touched by a Windows Setup (other than the one you are updating).
I will do a bit of work on this in the next couple days (this may also provide some debug info for the maybe download problem)
What files does apup use??

I know that is uses some VB6 files, but only Antonis (possibly Renato) could tell you which ones.

I've got it running under WINE. All I had to install was the VB6 runtime. The executable I had on-hand was: vbrun60sp6.exe though there may be a newer version than that.

I've been periodically checking whether AutoPatcher can run in Wine or CrossOver on a central Linux file server...
AutoPatcher 1.05 seems to have a Windows Scripting Host dependency. You can get it from the WindowsXP-Windows2000-Script56-KB917344-x86-enu.exe installer, but the necessary vbscript.dll library doesn't properly register with recent Wine or CrossOver releases.
