Can anyone shed any light on this problem?
After using Autopacher for several years now on several systems without any problems.
I told a friend about it and how good it was so this afternoon he downloaded the latest version.
After clicking on the apup exe to start the program his computer went crazy it started to open page after page and wouldnt stop.
Had to switch of at the wall socket to stop the computer as we couldnt shut it down any other way.
This happened several times before we finally gave up.
What on earth could the problem be?

So your friend downloaded apup131.zip, extracted the contents, and upon launching apup.exe - his computer went crazy it started to open page after page and wouldnt stop.

I'm not sure what you mean by page after page, what page, a web page. Do you mean multiple instances of APUP? I will admit I have never heard of this before, but I suppose it may be possible and would be something related to the OS, a glitch that triggered a call to launch apup.exe repeatedly.

I would be curious to see if anyone else has ever witnessed this behavior from an executable?

Yes it was after extracting and clicking on the apup exe.
With regards to what the pages were it was impossible to really tell because it was happening
to quickly have never seen anything like it before. But I dont think it was the download updater box.
Whatever was trying to open seemed to be full screen. Have downloaded the same file this evening and
run it in a virtual xp operating system without any problems.

odd. enter key wasn't hold or something? that file come from our own website?

Yes it was downloaded from this site.

even more odd. any virus was present or any key was hold, maybe even an mouse button?

No keys or mouse buttons were held down and he runs an up to date antivirus system.

Would have liked to try it again to try and get more detailed information but he is
quite defensive about what he installs on his computer and won't let me after what happened.

This is understandable. Your friend is part of that small group of computer users that AutoPatcher / APUP isn't a good fit, rare but does happen from time to time.

Having used the XP-OS for quite a few years and not down grading to Vista after the poor press that it got

I am obviously unfamiliar with the Vista-OS, I have read in the last few days with regards to a different matter
about the option to right click and ( Run as administrator )in Vista and Win 7.

Is this the answer to the problem with my friends computer, should we have done this with the Apup exe.

Will be left feeling a bit foolish if this is the answer,
