Autopatcher file verification of latest Shockwave version 11.5.8.612 fails. Downloaded Shockwave file seems OK. This was on a completely fresh installation of Autopatcher.

On an existing installation of Autopatcher, when an older Shockwave version 11.5.7.609 is already present, the new version is ignored.

do you have a firewall? If you know how.. see if your firewall is blocking apup. You could also try downloading with firewall off. MAKE SURE YOU TURN IT BACK ON AFTERWORDS.

Getting VERIFICATION FAILED Error

Hi - I am new to Autopatcher - basically want to use it for update my 2 PCs with dialup internet - on which I keep Windows update Turned Off - had a bad experience with WSUS so giving a try to Autopatcher.

I downloaded and run APUP2 at my work place with fast internet - and selected the first these options (updater, engine and common modules) and Autopatcher for XP SP3 - after running the downloads for a while I get an error - VERIFICATION FAILED - One or more files failed verification. Please rerun autopatcher updater. If problem persists please report the problem to the forums...........

If I rerun the APUP2 afresh I get the same error after reaching the same stage.

I again rerun APUP2 - with selection for downloading XP SP3 updates but the same error - the downloads go to around 250 mb and then fail.

I have attached the log file.

(1) Please suggest if I am right in using Autopatcher to update my PCs - had a bad experience with WSUS.
(2) What selections should i make to download all updates for XP SP3, Office etc.

I will be very thankful to a kind reply soon.

I found two errors in the log.

First Error:
Download Error: C:\Documents and Settings\dell\My Documents\Downloads\Apup2\modules\Critical\WindowsXP-KB2360937-x86-ENU.apm_files\WindowsXP-KB2360937-x86-ENU.exe
File size does NOT match. Expecting 792960, but found 0!!!

This error means it could not download OR open the downloaded file for some reason. It didn't say what was wrong, I will look into that code when I get back from vacation.

Second Error:
Download Error: C:\Documents and Settings\dell\My Documents\Downloads\Apup2\modules\Critical\KB968389_xp_x86_enu.apm_files\WindowsXP-KB968389-x86-ENU.exe
File size does NOT match. Expecting 0, but found 1416056!!!

This error is on our end... the script needs to be fixed for that its not a major error and can be ignored.

Ignore the large amount of other size errors " Expected Size: 16,883K Current Download Size: 1K" its an error in that apup2 version detection code. The new code has that fixed.

I can't answer question 1 because that is based on user preference. Autopatcher is still in development, there will be bugs here and there. WSUS also has more people taking care of the scripts then we do(we have two people... more like one though). I am aiming for Auopatcher to be better then WSUS but, that will take time. I am curious as to what WSUS did that caused you to be upset with them.

As for Question 2, You didn't specify if you had an x86 or x64 system or even what language so I will answer for English x86.

Downloads Needed:
AutoPatcher Engine 5.6.0.100 {Need this to install the updates}
AutoPatcher Common Modules {MS's Malicious software removal tool, Update for Windows Update Tool}
AutoPatcher for Windows XP SP3 (x86) (You will NEED to have Service Pack 3 install for this download to work. I recommend either slip streaming your current install disk with sp3 or just putting the sp3 on a cd and install from it after you install XP.)
NET Framework Addon Pack (this is a must now a days many things on the web require it)

Downloads Recommended:
DirectX 9.0c (v9.29.1974) Addon Pack ( If you want to play games you will need this)
Adobe Reader X (v10) EN-US Addon Pack
Microsoft Security ENU Addon Pack (this one is up to you... it contains Windows Defender) LINK to information about it.

Now I can't tell you what office download to select because I have no idea what office you have but, just sellect the office download for your office version.

I have similar File verification failed erros.

I am on Windows XP SP3.

I have used both apup and apup2. Both fail with similar errors.

I have attached the apup and apup2 logs.

Please look through this. If the errors are not due to known reasons please consider at your leisure.

That looks like an APUP2 log -> Version: 1.0.4.

I don't quite know exactly how to interpret the contents of the log for v104, what exactly "Error: Unexpected Error" & "Download Of File xxxxxx.exeFailed. Skiping AfterDownload Action" means but it looks like you couldn't get KB2079403 & KB2115168. The direct links work...

WindowsXP-KB2079403-x86-ENU.exe -- http://download.micr...403-x86-ENU.exe
WindowsXP-KB2115168-x86-ENU.exe -- http://download.micr...168-x86-ENU.exe

... the size and hash match the script.

You could try and download the files directly and put them in the appropriate folders, the info is in the log file.

WindowsXP-KB2079403-x86-ENU.exe -- D:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\modules\Critical\WindowsXP-KB2079403-x86-ENU.apm_files\
WindowsXP-KB2115168-x86-ENU.exe -- D:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\modules\Critical\WindowsXP-KB2115168-x86-ENU.apm_files\

It's so much easier to simply put the contents of the log (text, unedited) inside Spoiler code...

@Sling Shot
I've just tried without errors. It seems a download error... please, can you try these instructions?
1. in AP SP3 folder, find and delete \modules\Critical\WindowsXP-KB2079403-x86-ENU.apm_files and \modules\Critical\WindowsXP-KB2115168-x86-ENU.apm_files folders (if them exist).
2. run APUP 1 or 2 and attach the log (please, you should follow instructions in _def_x_'s post.

Thx.

Done! Both folders & apm files were removed, APUP was run twice without issue. The release is Official, dated Fev, 17, 2012 - no that's not a typo :) See both log files below...

Spoiler

My guess is Sling Shot may have an internet connection issue, possibly firewall or security software, but it doesn't appear to be script related, not for these 2 updates anyway.

_OT_
I don't know about anyone else but APUP2 was real buggy the 3 times I used it, left nearly 50MB of temp data behind, had intermittent issues with extracting .7z files, at times the app would disappear - literally, after running for 5 or so minutes. I closed it using Process Explorer so it was still running as a process but no frame (window) was visible. This was on both XPx86 and 7x86. I also had 4 or 5 people testing APUP2 for a brief time, everything from 2K thru 7x86 & x64. Everyone had essentially the same issues with APUP2 though not everyone had all of them. I gave up trying to keep track of who had what problems. Anyway, I asked them to register and report the problems in full, don't know if they did.

Yes... Unexpected Error means just that. I have put in alot of contingency error code catches... His OS thew an error that is not caught by them and it is generally due to internet connection, possibly firewall. Since the files didn't download it refused to run the after download actions on the file, If the file isn't there you can't run the commands on them.

ya, I could put out the better version that I am personally using right now. It has a few bug fixes... there are still some annoying bugs to stamp out but, nothing like the instability issue of the last version and this one doesn't store stuff in IE cache files. I didn't bother to fix anything else after I switched to working on the new AP code.
