I have been away for sometime and updated my autopatcher just today. It downloaded all that I needed but when I went to run it stated that it was an unsupported/unofficial version.
I deleted the entire directory and refreshed with a previous backup I had from March 2010.
I checked the win xp sp3 forum but no answers to this problem.
Can you help
Log file attached

unsupported/unofficial version.
This means a file(s) is missing, failing verification, or there is an extra (stray) somewhere in the release. Find this file, fix it (failing, missing) or remove it (extra) to make the release Official.

Quote

I deleted the entire directory and refreshed with a previous backup I had from March 2010.
This was not needed and can cause problems. Removal commands may have been edited out for files the old release has. You update (March 2010), the new .rti expects to find specific files, (March 2010) contains unknown files that don't get removed by the new script - therefore the release fails.

I don't have an idea what is considered too long, there is no fixed rule (as far as I know). March 2010 does seem recent enough but again, download fresh and avoid updating an old release even if it was Official when put away.

What you should have done is, check your log file first, if there is no info to help locate the problem then, fire up AutoPatcher, click 'About' - click 'Release Info', the problem release is the 'Title' in red, False under 'Official'. You want to run the provided .md5 file, most releases come with one, see what info it provides. Get used to doing this when you have multiple releases in the same '\modules' folder.

Deleting AutoPatcher is a last resort move, rarely should a user do this. In your case, if you felt you needed to do it, you should have simply downloaded a new package, not update an old one. Of course, there is always the chance the issue is resulting from the new scripts but looking at your downloads, they should all be Official - if downloaded fresh.

One practice I have is create an .md5 of my entire '\modules' folder after a successful update, I name the .md5 the date I created it - '083110.md5'. When I update AutoPatcher anew I create a new .md5 and name it accordingly. I load the .md5 files in a comparison tool to compare the contents. The reason this is helpful even if done when the update appears successful (it was Official) is - mistakes will stand out, maybe a file was removed by accident - the error is then reported to the forums.

WinMerge (better, but complicated to learn, more recent) and TextDiff (simple, works, getting old) are two free tools that can compare the .md5 file.

ok, i will try merge those scripts at home to see if if this issue is created due an interaction between the scripts

@Whatacrock
Sorry if I misunderstood your post, reading it again I'm not sure if you attempted to update (March 2010) or not. The troubleshooting tips and advice (my opinions) still apply :)

I merged the scripts the OP was having troubles with, ran APUP a few times to see if a script might want to make a change - no problems, all files were accounted for and the release is Official. Ignore my Java, it copied over :)

merge done, replacing all the overlapped modules: still official

small issue: windows_components.apm included in the .net and direct script scripts have an different date, but the md5 matches, so no problem at all

question to myself: why someone buys an car alarm that any fly turns on? why those people also doesn't care enough to turn it off when it happens instead let it on the whole night?

Thanks guys for the help.
It stated in the release info that all were true but remained unofficial so deleted the lot and downloaded a fresh autopatcher, this one was official.
It looked as though some files were not deleted when apup did the cleanup, not sure which ones though, not to matter all is well.
Old backup disc now been destroyed and fresh one created.
Cheers
Bruce
