As far as I can see AP downloads all stuff into its own install directory.

Is there a way to specify a different download directory somewhere else (even on a different partition) ?

Yes. The release you select to download from within the APUP releases window will always download to '\modules'.

No. You can run apup.exe from just about anywhere but you can't download to another location as you see with many pieces of software, by selecting 'Browse', pointing to some location, etc. Where ever apup.exe is run from, the selections you check for download will download to the \modules folder. If you run apup.exe from C:\apup your download will be in C:\apup\modules.

Note: You need what I call a 'base' folder structure to have APUP and AutoPatcher work, the two top scripts (AutoPatcher Updater & AutoPatcher Engine) and a main release, XP, Vista, .NET etc. You can extract apupxxx.zip just about anywhere to create a new release but this is where you will have to locate the updates as well - the \modules folder from same said location :)
