See if this post helps at all - Read Here!
If you still have troubles, let us know at what point you're getting stuck.
Btw, APUP nor AutoPatcher themselves really install - they are portable tools. APUP does require an internet connection to work, other than that, it is pretty straight forward.

There is no installation process, you extract the zip file to a location, then you run apup.exe to download a release to the \modules folder where you extracted the zip. You wont find a shortcut on the desktop or a listing in Programs, you can create a shortcut yourself and put it on the desktop or add an AutoPatcher group in Programs.
If you have no \modules folder in your apup directory, can you dbl-click 'hit_this...cmd' to run APUP with logging, select the release, try to download it. When done post the apup.log file (found in the apup folder). It sounds like APUP is having trouble connecting to the internet.
In the link from my first post there is info about creating and posting log files if you need help.

also, doesn't matter how many times you run apup, the scripts still will be in there, doesn't matter if you already have them or not

AutoPatcher and APUP work pretty simply - extract the zip to a short path - c:\apup - run apup.exe, select a release, download a release. When problems occur it usually is due to the location (APUP has issues with networks), path names (very long or non English characters), security software (blocks program from running) etc. As long as the OS will let apup.exe run, you have an internet connection, and you aren't breaking any of the aforementioned rules it should work, if not - please be specific with your setup, security software, admin rights, exact path.
Here's a couple of screenshots...
The first is what I see when APUP connects to the internet and provides the releases list - do you get this far?
The second screenshot is what I get when APUP finishes a download, in this case the release was already complete so not much to download. The key here is amount 'fetched' or downloaded. How much was downloaded for you - nothing, some, all - please check the \modules folder in your APUP directory. You may see an error message at this point too.
The third screenshot is AutoPatcher loading the release, in this case XP SP3 x86 English - can you load a release in AutoPatcher?
