patch tuesday updates?

kmcheng's Photo kmcheng 15 Dec 2010

On patch Tuesday (that is the second Tuesday on every month (like yesterday the 14th), in case some of you don't know), there are bunch of updates from windows update that prompt me to download and install.
I got a question
If I run apup, would the program gets all these updates right away, or do I have to wait the autopatcher system to build up the new list of files before I do so?

it depends. most of the security updates are already in place for windows xp (it's missing 3 yet, but...). for vista and seven, the scripts aren't ready yet. when so, the list will be updated with the new script date

so I will have to wait for the list to be manually updated sometime afterward?

You can manually download each of those windows update itself did you know that? That how I updated ...is to use Windows Update....then manually download each update and those WGA do the cofirmation and then do the updates by myself....So you can still get the updates and then use autopatcher at a later time to make sure you got all the updates....so your not limited to just one way to update....

I know autopatcher is not the only way, but it will save a good amount of time on downloading, and very useful for new system setup, as I often do for people
Well, when the win7 sp1 comes out, most of these small updates will be gone.
