I Apologize...

_def_x_'s Photo _def_x_ 12 Feb 2011

I don't know what to say about the filth that has remained on autopatcher.com for days, this is a first since I've been familiar with the project.

...to those of you who may have stumbled by and are new around here - I apologize for the garbage left for all to see. I guess the smart thing to do is simply avoid coming by, it looks like the site is Officially Abandoned so this crap will only get worse.

it's the same feeling that i have since frank and ceasar has returned. his first act was demote everybody from the rights to stop all this, but they have forgot that they never come here, even in the event of an spam attack. now, they are messing even at the status updates and no ones does nothing. why? simple answer: i was taking care of all this alone, without any weapons to stop this. with just a few hours away, more spam. and seems that the things gone badly after the recent updates. but of course, frank and ceasar will not say a single word about it, because they think that pay for the hosting is all that is require for keep an forum running. well, it isn't. any forum requires people working on it, with rights enough to stop stuff like this. but to them, it's very simple: they don't give it and without this kind of rights, you can't even prepare someone to take care of the things when you can't be present. if you can't do that, you just have to work 24/7 without any kind of help, that was what i was doing since those 2 has returned

i may be crazy, but i've sent this to frank:

take a look at the forum and what the lack of security measures did with it in a few days. even at the status updates, there's 29 spams. at the forum himself, there's more. why? because no one was able to raise anyone status to help, since your have demoted all us from the rights to do it. it already was bad enough without the rights to update the forum software himself, but it has become even worst after yours first action after an long absence from the forum. i don't think that you remember when i've first asked you to raise joe and antony status, to allow us talk with them in the private area of the forum, but just in case, i will remind you: for more than 6 months, we had to talk about it by pms, because none of yours did it and we just didn't had rights enough to do it. do you wanna more? do you remember when seven was released? i remember. we asked you to create an area for it in the forum. it was done? not yet. the result? we had to forget about the posts order and reply questions about seven in anyplace. bad words at the forums? so far i remember, i've set that to at least children don't read most of bad words at the forum, but after that, no one did that anymore. why? yours just don't care about it and the ones that care about it doesn't have rights enough to do

do yours wanna save the project? grant someone that IS present at the forum do the changes that are required to keep things running the rights to update the forum software, the rights to create forum areas, the rights to promote someone that is willing to help, the rights to do the things that has to be done to keep things running. and no, yours don't count. why not? you and ceasar never are at the forums and bag for those things just doesn't work. doesn't have someone willing to help? look at the xp script. an user that has the password for it has updated it. why he has it? i've gave it for him, long ago, to fix the things that i was unable to when i was away

so, my point: slavery ended in the US in 1863, if i'm not mistaken. in here, it was done a little after that, in 1888. without allow someone have any kind of rest, because has to work 24/7 alone, slavery is what you get, all again. and why you have slavery? you can't even prepare an replacement for when you are sick. i don't know if you are aware of, but a couple of years ago, i've broke my right arm. according to my doctor, i had to not force it for anything (i've broke my scapula bone). do you think that i had the 45 days of rest that my doctor asked? no. why not? no one was able to. why not? no one else could do it. why not? yours didn't allowed that. so, slavery, all over again

my 2 cents only

Speaking of forums, I went by Malwarebytes and I thought I had clicked the wrong link. I guess the new forum software is the same as AutoPatcher, IPB.

...have a look - Malwarebytes Forums - AutoPatcher Forums

in fact, it seems to be the same thing, except that they have disabled the new area of spam and for sure they have more security measures than here. you wanna know one of the things that most pissed me off since those 2 have returned to the forum? before they return, we was trying get new members with beta team. in the exact same day that they have returned, that program was terminated. to this forum work, isn't required only release managers, it's required also a few guys to be the law enforcement, keeping the spam off. without the ability to raise someone to the security level that is required to do that, you basically denies everybody the right to take free time. in a first look, it didn't sounded so bad at all, because they said that more guys was coming to help. during this time, i've broke my right arm, domenico has broken his leg, etc and we had someone to release us for some time? no. domenico was in the hospital and doing the scrips from there. and those 2 was in here? no. they was at least doing the things that we asked for, like create new areas for new OS, etc? no. so, what's the point? don't kill the whole thing at once, but leave it to starve to death?

Wow, you release maintainers are/were a fragile bunch . I'm joking!!!!

All kidding aside, it all sounds like all of the current problems revolve around forum issues. It seems like we still have a pulse here, even if it's fading. Whether the project continues on this forum or another - it feels like there is a desire to keep it going. There just seems like .. I believe gUiTaR_mIkE said it somewhere recently that it's "burn-out on display". It has to be extremely frustrating to deal with the same problems day after day and nobody seems to care. That said, if those problems disappeaaaaaaaared? It's a nice thought anyway.

On the spam issue. Despite my adoration for the female anatomy :D. I don't come to these forums for information on it. So, on the plus side, at least the spam is obvious spam - and as such, can be easily ignored. I guess that's not the point though. There should be measures in place and/or people with the power to get rid of it.

Again, said it before. I'll keep saying it. I'm still keeping hope alive. And, in the event AutoPatcher is dead .. I yet again thank all those that kept it alive for as long as they did.

Yeah, there is a pulse for such a nice project that makes an otherwise difficult job a little easier - updating a Windows box. The only real issue I see is that AutoPatcher is once again getting behind. The software works OK with XP and Vista (as far as I know) but Windows 7 is the future (and 8) is around the corner, can't forget about DOTNET 4, so we are back to needing a reliable, willing, and capable developer to get AutoPatcher or the next incarnation to the next level.

What I was always hoping for was a packaged purposed project, it isn't anything new but hopefully would be much clearer than the present projects - a software package that can collect any of the needed package updates, and either install them, with much more feedback so you know what was installed, where etc, or, this is the other part - an option to create an updated install disk. Again, there are hundreds of options but none are really what I would call professional quality in both ease of use and documentation and FREE :)

You can find a hundred scripts that download the latest updates, a few abandoned projects that can create a disk I suppose but all are only OK in my opinion. AutoPatcher really set a standard here - it is a simple concept, a script turned into a GUI, grew to include a download feature (APUP, woulda been integrated into ONE app), and really made the intended task really easy. I thought - let's add the ability to create an updated disk, a third app of course, then eventually you combine them into one solid package, with documentation, a bit of tech support, and a professional presentation.

Again, this is done in the IT world but costs money, I was hoping to create a free version of a genuine professional grade open-source??? alternative. Remember the old saying - Wish in one hand, S&%t in the other, see which fills up first.

> you release maintainers are/were a fragile bunch
that has an name: bike. but still, i don't replace it by an car :P

> That said, if those problems disappeaaaaaaaared?
it could help a lot. the major problems in here is that everything goes into just 2 guys: keep the forum clean, user support, update all the scripts, etc. this was the main reason why a few others has burned as well. and at least with one, it's possible that he comes back if those issues are fixed

> The software works OK with XP and Vista (as far as I know)
under x86. under x64, it's more problematic. half of the usual detections doesn't work due that redirected part of windows registry. also, there's the UAC issue, that us to be an problem. but the major issue: a lot of times, you deploy the updates by hand with those 2 and you have to deploy them again after reboot through wu. if i'm not mistaken, this happens due UAC and running it without proper rights. we had an idea to fix this moving to .net but developers issues, it wasn't started

OK, I'm not big on editing threads so I wont do it now. It should be mentioned that the folks that support the forums are IT guys and work a lot of hours, have to sift through 100 of emails, and some get lost along the way, maybe even get deleted by accident. Well, as we can see they have dealt with the spam :)
