Hello,

I tried downloading the xp updates, but it will not update to sp2 or 3. I am correct in assuming I can only use autopatcher after I have downloaded/installed sp2 or 3. Do you guys know of a way to install sp2 and 3 without using MS website? I have no problem doing that, but I need to do it on multiple machines, and would rather save time on downloading.

THank you.

Hello :) Btw, if you've noticed some garbage spam on the forum, well I don't know why the admins are allowing it, no one is around :(

I'll try answering your questions in order...

True, AutoPatcher does not update a system with a service pack, in this case SP3, it is a requirement because 'XP_SP3' is written in to the .apm files according to the update requirements. There are a few updates that still may have 'XP_SP2' as a dependency but most of those updates have long since been replaced. You will need to download the service pack - I'll give you this info below.

True, it is best to have service pack 3 installed to have AutoPatcher be of any use to you - at least for the XP SP3 release. There are a few other releases - Extras, DOTNET, etc that you can use AutoPatcher with - see the APUP Releases List when run.

Yes, updating a system via the web at least in terms of a service pack install sounds kinda risky so I agree, having the full installer is a good way to go. Here's the details...

Don't be concerned with the title, Network Installer, it just means the full offline instll of the service pack. I would get any documentation and read it as well before you install the service pack - this is a big update so run it without any av software or firewll etc getting in the way.

This is the English service pack and link, it may redirect if your system has a different language, and if it does you can ignore the service pack md5 - the file is 300+ MB in size.

Service Pack 3 For XP ENU (x86) Network Installation Package
Name: WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe

I think SP3 has all the patches of SP2
Try downloading SP3 as an image.
You may be receiving the file as a compressed file, out of which you can extract the image
You may also look for on one of those old free CDs with Digit of Chip magazines
Download and install 'nLite' software
Copy all the contents of your windows Xp somewhere on the hard disk in a named folder
And you should havethe SP3 image in another folder
start nLite
Read each step carefully
Get ready with a CD RW on which you are going to create your final installation CD
You may meet with some hitches somewhere - repeat the process. I had to do it 5 times -have patience
Ultimately after a few attempts your CD RW becomes prefect or as you wish it shoud be
You can take a copy of this for your future uses
You can ultimately create a fully automated installation CD of WinXp with SP3

Overview:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system.

Supported Operating Systems:
Windows XP Home Edition; Windows XP Professional Edition; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2
You need Windows XP Home or Pro w/ SP1 or SP2 installed to run the SP3 installer - one or the other, you don't need to install SP2 then SP3 if you're running SP1.

>>>Download and install 'nLite' software
nLite is an option I suppose but as you've stated - it isn't fool proof and you wont get it right the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd time so I would test the *.iso using Microsoft's free Virtual PC 2007 w/ SP1 (if you do, install the addons). Once the disk installs as you designed it then I would burn to media. I agree, if you can handle the task, create an updated install disk but I would caution the OP - don't strip everything out - sounds good in theory but can create a buggy Windows installation.

The SP3 iso is big - 544+ MB - these are the details last time I downloaded it.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File
Name: xpsp3_5512.080413-2113_usa_x86fre_spcd.iso
MD5: 308245853E5B231343EE17B36FFDA1E6

I hope we've been able to help you :) Don't be afraid to experiment but be sure to test your work first - good luck.

Rather than using nLite to slipstream SP3 I would recommend AutoStreamer for the job. Latest/last version is 1.0.3.3 and a Google search should list download locations.

Ther only function of AutoStreamer is to perform a slipstream so the user really doesn't have to learn all the functions of nLite or RyanVM Integrator (if they become aware of either or both).

AutStreamer will create an ISO file when correctly used so the only thing the user needs is a CD burner program. B)
