Why does AutoPatcher download Unwanted Software and updates for it?

I removed Messenger completely from my system on the day I installed XP.

This is NOT an update, it's a fresh install of an application I DO NOT WANT!

I had no options to select or deselect any updates individually.

__

Why download all of the files before asking me if I even want the core software?

I don't want IE8, I don't even load IE7... I use IE Tab 2 in Firefox when I need IE compatibility (just for the rendering engine)

I don't want ANY of the WMP CRAP... I have VLC and Media Player Classic installed with my own favorite codec pack.

To FORCE me to download it, even if I can later choose not to install it is WASTEFUL and ARROGANT.

Wasteful of bandwidth I HAVE TO PAY FOR.

Arrogant to think I NEED Software that is commonly attacked and a source of insecurity.

I should get to choose BEFORE it's just downloaded.

It's MY cellular internet bill being affected here.

I am at least happy I was able to select not to install WMP and Messenger components, but it would have been MUCH BETTER if I could have chosen to NOT DOWNLOAD them....

Thanks for wasting my metered bandwidth.....

I understand you have special needs, if this is the case, why didn't you ask first about AutoPatcher before downloading anything, wouldn't that have saved us both the time and aggravation.

Did you read the FAQ!

Q: What is AutoPatcher?
A: AutoPatcher could be described as an offline Windows Update. AutoPatcher provides an interface to a large collection of updates, common applications and registry tweaks, that can be easily and quickly applied to your computer system.

Q: What are the advantages of AutoPatcher over Windows Update?
A: The main advantage is that you just have to do one download in order to have all the patches and add-ons, such as Sun Java, MSN Messenger 7.x and Windows Media Player 10...<snip>

Java was added to Extras and since has been removed altogether due to the download link. IE, WMP, MSN, etc are integral components of the Microsoft WIndows OS, having updates for said components is important. Again, AutoPatcher isn't around to bother people, rather help them, but the application can't please everyone, some want more, others, less. A few even wanted the service packs added.

sorry, but according to ms, it is an update. it is even downloaded through automatic updates, as ie is as well

as for the updates for IE, the idea was keep only the latest version, but some people require the old versions and the updates for it. the updates for ie (even if you think don't run it) also update windows explorer, that 99,9% run. to that, say thanks to ms and the integration that they did. but ok, europe has an version that was supposed not have explorer, but i really doubt that windows explorer is out in all ways

> I had no options to select or deselect any updates individually
name one where you have it in the download phase

> WASTEFUL and ARROGANT
funny... i think the same about those that doesn't help and only complain. this forum requires release managers and developers. to select the downloads one by one, an change in the software is required and i bet that any help is welcome

> Wasteful of bandwidth I HAVE TO PAY FOR
and the ones that work for free on it doesn't have to pay for it as well? some have to download updates for things that they don't run. the original developer of autopatcher was running linux and did an tool to update windows. it isn't an waste as well?

> Thanks for wasting my metered bandwidth
mine has an limit as well. after an certain load (up +down), the contract says that or i must pay extra or be stucked in 1st gear...
