Error message for APUP

When I run apup.exe in my Windows XP, I get the error message: "Run-time error '0'".
What can I do?
It runs in my laptop where I use Windows 2000. I use Kaspersky Internet Security 7 in both. It doesn't help to turn it off.
PS: Finally I can post a topic!!!!!! I registered under different data (as "allesok") and NEVER received a confirmation mail from you... My data were accepted by the Forum but I couldn't start a topic. I wonder what then H went wrong? Now I had to register again under new data. In the meantime I had to put the question through a form in your Support page, since that was all I could do...

Many times have this been discussed, like what Cristiano has said here.
Most of the time, the error is caused because of apup doesn't know what to do when it can't connect immediately into a server to download something.

Well, it doesn't help - it comes EVERY time! So I hope that it will soon be debugged!
In the meantime:
Can I download in my laptop (in Win 2k) and copy the folder to my desktop and run it from there (in WinXP)?
Or are there any registry settings needed in th desktop that wouldn't be transferred. If so: Which? Maybe I can transfer them, too, with reg-files.
Any "dependency" files, i.e. Windows' files that could be missing in the desktop, that I would also have to transfer?

Sure apup still spews out runtime error 0, but if your Internet connection is adequate, a simple restart of apup should resume where it last fail to download something.
Also, apup doesn't work under a proxy and doesn't use the settings from Internet Options; it requires direct connection.
But, YMMV.
And yes, you can download the whole pack on one computer and use it on another.
AP doesn't use the registry unless when it checks for which updates have been applied in your current system.
