Hello dear W2k fans!

Seen EUUpdate.exe recommended for W2k on this forum, though Microsoft gives it for Xp-2k3-V only here

I tried it on my running W2k, the result here is that the patch seems to run and it does install new versions of the fontfiles BUT charmap.exe doesn't show the added characters (though it does show neighbour Latin and Cyrillic ones):

In Times New Roman, Arial, Trebuchet, Verdana
Each regular, bold, italic and bold italic
U+0218, U+0219, U+021A and U+021B for Romanian
U+040D and U+045D for Bulgarian

So I wonder if EUUpdate.exe works on W2k... Perhaps only Wga is required, which I refuse to have on my machine - I had also disconnected the modem when installing EUUpdate.exe.
Has somebody a different experience, or could check this?
Or maybe does the update work better if slipstreamed, by /integrate or with Hfslip?

I have removed KB924867 from my lists.

My reason is that KB924867 improves a bug introduced by MS06-051 KB917422,
but
MS07-035 KB935839 replaces MS06-051 KB917422
and
http://support.micro...kb/924867/en-us doesn't mention MS07-035 KB935839, only MS06-051 KB917422, though it was revised in October 2007 - hence after MS06-051.

So I felt encouraged to deduce that the newer MS07-035 KB935839 is free from that bug and KB924867 can be discarded.

What are the arguments in favour of keeping KB924867?

I've had a look at the contents of KB924867 and related patches:

(7135 is shorthand for 5.0.2195.7135)

The version numbers support the opinion that MS07-035 KB935839 allows to discard KB924867.

in deed, Windows2000-KB924867-x86-ENU.EXE was replaced by KB935839, according to this post.

probably, we just missed the replacement list for this one. don't worry, this will be fixed soon

Then I'll consider KB924867 to be outdated.
Missed the replacement list? Not even! MS' security bulletins list which security bulletins are replaced, but KB924867 isn't one... It is a functional patch. Billions of blistering barnacles in a thundering typhoon!

And about EUUpdate.exe : has someone made observations (or is willing to try)?

EUUpdate.exe this one wasn't replaced. in fact, there's some characters in the replaced fonts that was banned (if my memory doesn't fail, at least)

Windows 2000 release updated with the February 2009 Root Certificates update.

Thanks for the infomation on KB924867.
It will be removed the next time this Windows 2000 releases is updated. It should have been removed in June 2007, which is from the old, old, days before we had Apup!

sorry guys, but here goes another script. as your may have already noticed, the Win2k script is without maintenance since several months ago (there’s even an warning about that in the scripts selection window, from apup). in this time, we was looking for someone to keep this script running. so far, no luck. we could keep this one as is, but MS is still replacing updates for this one and several updates are already broken. worst: some still are alive, but the detections doesn’t work anymore, because the update himself was updated and the old detection is no longer valid.

we can’t keep all the scripts running fine with just a few people updating the scripts (yes, that means that we need you). with lack of people, we must hold our efforts to the most popular scripts. and the Win2k script is already breaking the XP and Vista scripts, because a lot of people mix all the scripts in a single folder. that isn’t a real problem (except that the scripts aren’t updated all in the same day and this may lead to certain issues), but right now this has become an real problem: as the users are unable to download the entire script due broken links, the release becomes unofficial and this means that we can’t grant to the user that the files that he downloaded are 100% ok. and this is an problem.

so, in about 2 weeks, the Win2K script will be taken offline. this may be reversed, with the help of volunteers. if someone wishes work on this script, please state that

If you can get an updated list of the missing and replaced updates I will help you get 2K updated, the only problem for me being on dialup
is anything microsoft.com takes forever to load, and a simple task of navigating the security bulletin search page trying to get info on 2
or 3 patches can take 45 minutes. I have yet to figure out what's with Microsoft pages that takes so long for me but a page is about 4.5
minutes each - even revisiting a previously viewed page.

so I looked at the guides, but do we really have to start from scratch? can't we have a manual download to test the latest script and tweak where needed. (reporting changes of course.)

also what will the eol on 2k mean for us? will autopatcher be relevent? will ms package a finall rollup, or pull existing patches from update site? basically is it worth me jumpstarting the 2kstien. :)

no, we have an backup from all the scripts. but the issue is related to lack of people to keep the scripts running. so, report changes isn't enough: the candidate to release manager shall do the required changes in the script as well

Ok, I'm new to this forum and program. I had grabbed it some time back and was waiting until closer to end of life to gather all the patches, etc. Decided to try it today with a fresh install VM and found the Win2K SP4 was only listed in Italian ( I need English) and was investigating and found that the scripts aren't being updated for 2K.

I currently am using Linux primarily, but need to keep my old favorite of Microsoft's around to run the few programs that I need that are only windows based. I have coded in C and done a small amount of assembly years ago. In an effort to help, I will be willing to donate some time. I would like to look at the scripts and see how they are constructed before I fully commit. I also will probably need a pointer or two as to where to head at MS' sight to get the list(s). I haven't been all that concerned about all the patches because I don't get on the net with 2K except for one sight that requires it for me to be able download data I need for work, and I don't need there that often.

My other concern is available time. Let me know if you want my help and give me some info as to where to get a script to view, etc.

well, this script isn't so obsolete. in fact, just a few changes are required in order to make this one up to data again, but the issue is time to do it. one idea: take a look into this. that documentation is old, but it's enough to have some idea about how the stuff works. so please, take a look on that carefully. after that, if you still wishes give a try, please let us know. all the scripts are constructed in the same way, the only changes are the updates himself. so, you can take at any of our scripts in here. the only one thing that you have to do is follow the links. after look into any of them, you have seen all

Grabbed the data and will look it over. Will be either tonight or tomorrow, but will look and decide if I can spend the time. I am just thinking out loud, but might it be easier to think about just doing a final wrap-up once end_of_life has occurred? I will still review the info.
